Climate and salinity drive soil bacterial richness and diversity in sandy grasslands in China

Bacteria constitute a large proportion of the biodiversity in soils and control many important processes in terrestrial ecosystems.However,our understanding of the interactions between soil bacteria and environmental factors remains limited,especially in sensitive and fragile ecosystems.In this study,geographic patterns of bacterial diversity across four sandy grasslands along a 1,600 km north-south transect in northern China were characterized by high-throughput 16S rRNA gene sequencing.Then,we analyzed the driving factors behind the patterns in bacterial diversity.The results show that of the 21 phyla detected,the most abundant were Proteobacteria,Actinobacteria,Acidobacteria and Fir‐micutes(average relative abundance>5%).Soil bacterial operational taxonomic unit(OTU)numbers(richness)and Faith's phylogenetic diversity(diversity)were highest in the Otindag Sandy Land and lowest in the Mu Us Sandy Land.Soil electrical conductivity(EC)was the most influential factor driving bacterial richness and diversity.The bacterial communities differed significantly among the four sandy grasslands,and the bacterial community structure was signifi‐cantly affected by environmental factors and geographic distance.Of the environmental variables examined,climatic factors(mean annual temperature and precipitation)and edaphic properties(pH and EC)explained the highest propor‐tion of the variation in bacterial community structure.Biotic factors such as plant species richness and aboveground bio‐mass exhibited weak but significant associations with bacterial richness and diversity.Our findings revealed the impor‐tant role of climate and salinity factors in controlling bacterial richness and diversity;understanding these roles is critical for predicting the impacts of climate change and promoting sustainable management strategies for ecosystem services in these sandy lands.

Esophageal cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death in the world,with approximately half of the new cases occurring in China every year.^(1)Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)is the main subtype,accounting for more than 90%,and the five-year survival rate is less than 10%.Using large-scale genome analysis,many driver mutations and key pathways associated with ESCC have been identified.However,these genomic signatures have not improved the clinical management of EscC patients,or established effective targeted therapy.^(2)Esophageal cancer still lacks representative molecular markers.

Regular exercise has been shown to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease(AD).Our previous study showed that the protein aquaporin 4(AQP4),which is specifically expressed on the paravascular processes of astrocytes,is necessary for glymphatic clearance of extracellular amyloid beta(Aβ)from the brain,which can delay the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.However,it is not known whether AQP4-regulated glymphatic clearance of extracellular Aβis involved in beneficial effects of exercise in AD patients.Our results showed that after 2 months of voluntary wheel exercise,APP/PS1 mice that were 3 months old at the start of the intervention exhibited a decrease in Aβburden,glial activation,perivascular AQP4 mislocalization,impaired glymphatic transport,synapse protein loss,and learning and memory defects compared with mice not subjected to the exercise intervention.In contrast,APP/PS1 mice that were 7 months old at the start of the intervention exhibited impaired AQP4 polarity and reduced glymphatic clearance of extracellular Aβ,and the above-mentioned impairments were not alleviated after the 2-month exercise intervention.Compared with age-matched APP/PS1 mice,AQP4 knockout APP/PS1 mice had more serious defects in glymphatic function,Aβplaque deposition,and cognitive impairment,which could not be alleviated after the exercise intervention.These findings suggest that AQP4-dependent glymphatic transport is the neurobiological basis for the beneficial effects of voluntary exercises that protect against the onset of AD.

在全面推进乡村振兴背景下,政府购买养老项目扶持乡村公共服务,深化多主体协作,构建乡村养老联合体。依据供给主体不同,乡村社区居家养老服务项目分三类:“互联网+”公司主导的社区居家助老项目、医疗养护机构主导的家庭养老床位项目和社区治理面向的老年社工项目。借鉴网格治理理论,比较不同属性的供给主体在服务规划、服务体验和服务成效上的差异性,揭示项目制下主体分治产生异化的微观过程。目前此三者的服务供给面临三种困境:盈利组织服务低质化,混合型组织服务目标偏离,非盈利组织行政吸附、服务碎片化,最终三者走向服务“疏离化”和人员“内卷化”,根本原因在于政府边界模糊和各分治主体自主协调困难。建议根据生命周期,构建以家庭需求为本的协同机制,理清各主体彼此义务并创新流程,在新层面上发挥政府主导作用以重塑多主体合作关系。

A series of experiments on a solid feed system was performed to investigate the effect of negative pressure gradient on the gas-solid flow pattern and hydrodynamic characteristics.Based on the non-fluidized gas-solid two phase flow and particulate mechanics in the standpipe,a method for predicting the pressure of the air passing through the recycle chamber and the pressure drop through the loop seal slit in these systems is also presented.The predicted pressure profile along the negative pressure gradient from the proposed model exhibits a good agreement with the experimental data.The experimental data show that the gas flow in the standpipe is always upward in the negative pressure gradients,while the direction ofthe superficial gas velocity through the recycle chamber of the loop seal does not affect the pressure drop in standpipe.It increases with an increasing negative pressure gradient.

Accurately predicting and estimating the squeezing and ground response to tunneling remains challenging.Moreover,tunnel-squeezing hazards are much more likely to occur in deeply buried long tunnels with complex engineering-geological environments.There-fore,a high-performance predictive model for tunnel squeezing is necessary.A superior ensemble classifier is put forward in this study,which is composed of four individual classifiers(gradient boosting classifier,extra-trees classifier,AdaBoost classifier,and Logistic regression classifier)and two optimization algorithms(Bayesian optimization(BO)and sparrow search algorithm(SSA)).The training database covers five parameters:tunnel depth(H),rock tunneling quality index(Q),tunnel diameter(D),support stiffness(K),and strength stress ratio(SSR),about which the basic information is accessible at the early design phases.However,the dataset compiled from the literature is insufficient.Thus,the ten proposed methods are used to replace the missing values.During the model training pro-cess,BO shows its strong ability to optimize seventeen hyperparameters.When applied to tune the classifiers’weights,SSA achieves a fast and efficient performance.The novel Shapley Additive Explanations–LightGBM method indicates that the K is the most important input feature,followed by SSR,Q,H,and D,respectively.The ensemble classifier is then validated using the test set and additional his-torical case projects.The validation shows that the model can achieve an accuracy of 98%(i.e.,the error rate is 2%)on the test set,higher than those achieved by previous prediction models.Moreover,the predicted probability could provide warning information for timely support measures.Finally,the application results are illustrated through tests on the tunnel sections that have not yet been excavated in the line of the Sichuan–Tibet railway project.The applied predictive tendencies and laws are in line with the practical experience.In sum-mary,the proposed model’s prediction results are reasonable,and its pre

In the twin-roll strip casting process,molten steel solidifies by losing heat through its interface with the casting rollers.The heat extraction along this interface has an effect on the quality of the strips and should be affected by coating,rolls’material,and cooling water flow rate.It is necessary to understand the effect of these casting parameters on the solidification structure of twin-roll strip casting.A three-dimensional computational domain is set up to simulate the solidification process of molten steel and heat exchange between steel strip/air,coating,rolls,and cooling water in the channel of roll sleeves.The effect of the cooling water intensity and flow intensity of molten steel in the pool on the solidification structures is studied during the thermal cycle of rolls in the twin-roll strip casting.These predicted results are helpful to optimize casting parameters and improve the strip quality in the twin-roll strip casting process.

The retinal ganglion cells of the optic nerve have a limited capacity for self-repair after injury.Valproate is a histone deacetylase inhibitor and multitarget drug,which has been demonstrated to protect retinal neurons.In this study,we established rat models of optic nerve-crush injury and injected valproate into the vitreous cavity immediately after modeling.We evaluated changes in the ultrastructure morphology of the endoplasmic reticulum of retinal ganglion cells over time via transmission electron microscope.Immunohistochemistry and western blot assay revealed that valproate upregulated the expression of the endoplasmic reticulum stress marker glucose-regulated protein 78 and downregulated the expression of transcription factor C/EBP homologous protein,phosphorylated eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2α,and caspase-12 in the endoplasmic reticulum of retinal ganglion cells.These findings suggest that valproate reduces apoptosis of retinal ganglion cells in the rat after optic nerve-crush injury by attenuating phosphorylated eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2α-C/EBP homologous protein signaling and caspase-12 activation during endoplasmic reticulum stress.These findings represent a newly discovered mechanism that regulates how valproate protects neurons.

Layered Li-rich Mn-based oxides are promising cathode materials for Li-ion batteries due to their high capacity and high operation voltage.However,their commercial applications are hindered by irreversible capacity loss in the first charge-discharge process,voltage decay during cycling,inefficient cyclability and rate capability.Many attempts have been performed to solve such issues,including the mechanism study and strategies to improve the electrochemical performance.This article provides a brief review and future perspective on the main challenges of the high-capacity Li-rich Mn-based cathodes for Li-ion batteries.
