The role of the vascularized bone marrow component as a continuous source of donor-derived hematopoietic stem cells that facilitate tolerance induction of vascularized composite allografts is not completely *** this study,vascularized composite tissue allograft transplantation outcomes between recipients receiving either conventional bone marrow transplantation(CBMT)or vascularized bone marrow(VBM)transplantation from Balb/c(H2d)to C57BL/6(H2b)mice were *** high-or low-dose CBMT(1.5×10^(8)or 3×10^(7)bone marrow cells,respectively)was *** addition,recipients were treated with costimulation blockade(1 mg anti-CD154 and 0.5 mg CTLA4Ig on postoperative days 0 and 2,respectively)and short-term rapamycin(3 mg/kg/day for the first posttransplant week and then every other day for another 3 weeks).Similar to high-dose conventional bone marrow transplantation,5/6 animals in the vascularized bone marrow group demonstrated long-term allograft survival(>120 days).In contrast,significantly shorter median survival was noted in the low-dose CBMT group(~64 days).Consistently high chimerism levels were observed in the VBM transplantation ***,low levels of circulating CD4^(+)and CD8^(+)T cells and a higher ratio of Treg to Teff cells were maintained in VBM transplantation and high-dose CBMT recipients(>30 days)but not in low-dose VBM transplant ***-specific hyporesponsiveness was shown in tolerant recipients in *** of the vascularized bone marrow component after secondary donor-specific skin transplantation did not affect either primary allograft or secondary skin graft survival.

Northern peatlands represent one of the largest biospheric carbon reservoirs in the *** southern margins act as new carbon reservoirs,which can greatly influence the global carbon ***,the Holocene initiation,expansion and climate sensitivity of these peatlands remain intensely *** we used a compilation of basal peat ages across six isolated peatlands at the southern margins of northern peatlands to address these *** found that the earliest initiation event of these peatlands occurred after the Younger Dryas(YD,12,800–11,700 years ago)*** second initiation event and rapid expansion occurred since 5 ka *** recession of East Asian summer monsoon(EASM)during the YD period and at around 5 ka *** likely played a major role in controlling the initiation and expansion of these *** rapid expansion of these peatlands possibly contributed to the significant increases in atmospheric methane concentrations during the late Holocene because of the minerotrophic fens status and rapid expansion of *** ecological processes are different from northern peatlands,indicating the special carbon sink and source implications of these peatlands in the global carbon cycle.

Experimental results are presented which allow comparison of the electrochemical performance of ruO 2/Ti, ru 0 3 Sn 0 7 O 2/Ti and ru 0 3 V 0 7 O 2/Ti catalysts prepared on a titanium substrate by thermal decomposition from respective precursors. The highest activity for chlorine evolution is observed on the ru 0 3 V 0 7 O 2/Ti electrode, lower on ru 0 3 Sn 0 7 O 2/Ti and least on ruO 2/Ti. Voltammograms obtained in the polarisable region are used to characterize the different electrodes. Further more an analysis of the catalytic activity and reaction kinetics of the developed electrodes in NaCl are presented.

AIM： To evaluate pronto Dry examination in patients with dyspepsia. METHODS： The study was conducted in patients with dyspepsia who underwent endoscopic examination in several endoscopic centers of several cities in Indonesia from January 2003 until April 2004. Biopsies for histopathologic examination were fixed with formalin and sent to Histopathologic Department to be analyzed and confirm the presence of Hpylori infection. If Hpylori was found positive, the density was calculated semi quantitatively. Histopathologic examination from gastric biopsy samples was interpreted based on the updated Sydney system classification. rESULTS： Of 550 patients, 309 （56%） were male and 241 （44%） were female with ages ranging from 15 to 82 years. Mean age was 44.98 ± 14.46 years. Mean age of male patients was 44.35 ± 13.85 years and mean age of female patients was 45.78± 15.19 years. Evaluation of endoscopic results showed gastric ulcer in 36 cases （6.5%） and duodenal ulcer in 20 cases （3.6%）. Normal endoscopic finding was found in 45 cases （8.2%） and minimal disorder of gastritis and duodenitis were found in 246 cases （44.7%）. One case of gastric cancer was identified. Of 56 cases which were positive based on the criteria used, 39 patients were positive with pronto Dry and 17 patients were negative with pronto Dry. Overall sensitivity and specificity of pronto Dry were 69.7% and 95.7% respectively. positive predictive value was 66.1% and negative predictive value was 96.4% and overall accurate rate was 92.9%. CONCLUSION： pronto Dry seems promising as a diagnostic tool to detect Hpy/ori more rapidly and accurately.

The variability of wind power generation requires the allocation of a flexible energy reserve which is capable of compensating for possible imbalances between the load and generation. To reduce the variability of wind power generation and loss of load in generation deficit, we propose operation strategies for coordinating battery energy storage with wind power generation. The effects of the operation strategies on system reliability are evaluated by the developed computation model that represents the main aspects and operation limitations of the batteries. The performance evaluation of the power system is based on the composite reliability indices of loss of load probability(LOLp) and expected energy not supplied(EENS), which is calculated through sequential Monte Carlo simulation. Tests are performed by the developed model with a tutorial system consisting of five busbars and the IEEE rTS system. The results show that the use of large-scale batteries is an alternative to physically guarantee the wind power plants and to act as an operation reserve to reduce the risk of loss of load.

Artificial senses for characterization of food quality

Food quality is of primary concern in the food industry and to the consumer. Systems that mimic human senses have been developed and applied to the characterization of food quality. The five primary senses are: vision, hearing, smell, taste and touch. In the characterization of food quality, people assess the samples sensorially and differentiate “good”from “bad”on a continuum. However, the human sensory system is subjective, with mental and physical inconsistencies, and needs time to work. Artificial senses such as machine vision, the electronic ear, electronic nose, electronic tongue, artificial mouth and even artificial the head have been developed that mimic the human senses. These artificial senses are coordinated individually or collectively by a pat- tern recognition technique, typically artificial neural networks, which have been developed based on studies of the mechanism of the human brain. Such a structure has been used to formulate methods for rapid characterization of food quality. This research presents and discusses individual artificial sensing systems. With the concept of multi-sensor data fusion these sensor systems can work collectively in some way. Two such fused systems, artificial mouth and artificial head, are described and discussed. It indicates that each of the individual systems has their own artificially sensing ability to differentiate food samples. It further indicates that with a more complete mimic of human intelligence the fused systems are more powerful than the individual sys- tems in differentiation of food samples.
