Role of rice cytosolic hexokinase OsHXK7 in sugar signaling and metabolism

We characterized the function of the rice cytosolic hexokinase OsHXK7 （Qryza sativa HexokindseZ）, which is highly upregulated when seeds germinate under O2- deficient conditions. According to transient expression assays that used the promoter：luciferase fusion construct, OsHXK7 enhanced the glucose （Glc）-dependent repression of a rice n-amylase gene （RAmy3D） in the mesophyll protoplasts of maize, but its catalytically inactive mutant alleles did not. Consistently, the expression of OsHXK7, but not its catalytically inactive alleles, complemented the Arabidopsis glucose insensitive2-1 （gin2-1） mutant, thereby resulting in the wild type characteristics of Glc-dependent repression, seedling development, and plant growth. Interestingly, OsHXK7-mediated Glc-dependent repression was abolished in the O2-deficient mesophyll protoplasts of maize. This result provides compelling evidence that OsHXK7 functions in sugar signaling via a glycolysis-dependent manner under normal conditions, but its signaling role is suppressed when O2 is deficient. The germination of two null OsHXK7 mutants, oshxk7-1 and oshxk7-2, was affected by O2 deficiency, but overexpression enhanced germination in rice. This result suggests the distinct role that OsHXK7 plays in sugar metabolism and efficient germination by enforcing glycolysis-mediated fermentation in O2-deficient rice.

BACKGROUnD The sphericity of the femoral head is a metric used to evaluate hip pathologies and is associated with the development of osteoarthritis and femoral-acetabular *** To analyze the three-dimensional asphericity of the femoral head of asymptomatic pediatric *** hypothesized that femoral head asphericity will vary significantly between male and female pediatric hips and increase with age in both *** Computed tomography scans were obtained on 158 children and adolescents from a single institution in the United States(8-18 years;50%male)without hip *** femoral measurements including the femoral head diameter,femoral head volume,residual volume,asphericity index,and local diameter difference were used to evaluate femoral head *** In both sexes,the residual volume increased by age(ppite significantly smaller femoral head size in older ages(>13 years)in females,there were no sex-differences in residual volume and aspherity *** were no age-related changes in mean diameter difference in both sexes(p=0.07)with no significant sex-differences across different age groups(p=0.06).In contrast,there were significant increases in local aspherity(maximum diameter difference)across whole surface of the femoral head and all quadrants except the inferior regions in males(p=0.03).There were no sex-differences in maximum diameter difference at any regions and age group(p>0.05).Increased alpha angle was only correlated to increased mean diameter difference across overall surface of the femoral head(p=0.024).COnCLUSIOn There is a substantial localized asphericity in asymptomatic hips which increases with age *** 2D measured alpha angle can capture overall asphericity of the femoral head,it may not be sensitive enough to represent regional asphericity patterns.

The authors prove that flat ground state solutions(i.e. minimizing the energy and with gradient vanishing on the boundary of the domain) of the Dirichlet problem associated to some semilinear autonomous elliptic equations with a strong absorption term given by a non-Lipschitz function are unstable for dimensions n = 1, 2 and they can be stable for n ≥ 3 for suitable values of the involved exponents.

(Ba, Sr)RuO3 has been paid an attention as a promising electrode for (Ba, Sr)TiO3 dielectric material due to its similarity in structure and chemical composition with BST. In this study, (Ba, Sr)RuO3 conductive oxide film was deposited on a 4 inch p-type Si wafer by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) using single cocktail source for the practical device application. Ba(TMHD)2, Sr(TMHD)2, Ru(TMHD)3 precursors and solvent [1-Etylepiperdine (C7H15 n) ] as starting materials were mixed together for single cocktail source. A liquid delivery system (LDS) and a vaporization cell were utilized for the delivery and vaporization of single cocktail source, respectively. The source feeding rate was controlled by a liquid mass flow controller (LMFC). Deposition parameters, such as the oxygen flow and the source flow rate,were sensitive to phase formation, resistivity and the composition ratio of (Ba, Sr)RuO3 films. Highly (110)-textured (Ba,Sr)RuO3 film was obtained vhen the Ar/O2 ratio was 200/140 sccm at a source flow rate of 0.05 sccm. The process window of stoichiometric composition of BSR film was observed with varying the source flow rate from 0.05 sccm to 0.1 sccm.

Remediation of amide pesticide-polluted soils by combined solarization and ozonation treatment

Agriculture has a close relationship with nature,but it can also be the source of negative and permanent environmental *** use of pesticides in modern agriculture is a common practice,but their side effects on the environment cannot be *** this study,we evaluated a combination of solarization and ozonation techniques for the elimination of six amide pesticides(boscalid,chlorantraniliprole,cyflufenamid,fluopyram,napropamide,and propyzamide)in *** experiments were performed with four different soils to assess the efficiency of this methodology at different soil temperatures and ozone dosages under laboratory conditions,and then a greenhouse pot experiment was conducted under controlled conditions during *** days after the onset of the experiments,higher degradation percentages of amide pesticides were observed in ozonized soils than in other treated soils,particularly when ozone was applied at 10 cm soil *** results show that the utilization of ozonation,along with solarization,represents a valid method for degrading residues of the studied pesticides and suggest that this combined technology may be a promising tool for remediating pesticide-polluted soils.

Ultra-thin hafnium-oxide gate dielectric films deposited by atomic layer deposition technique using HfCl4 and H2O precursor on a hydrogen-terminated Si substrate were investigated. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicates that the interface layer is Hf-silicate rather than phase separated Hf-silicide and silicon oxide structure. The Hf-silicate interfacial layer partially changes into SiOx after high temperature annealing, resulting in a complex HfO2-silicate-SiOx dielectric structure. Electrical measurements confirms that HfO2 on Si is stable up to 700 ℃ for 30 s under n2 ambient.

performance evaluations on inner vs. outer decomposition first parallel join algorithms for two nested loop joins

Two popular traditional join algorithms and their parallel versions are introduced. When designing join algorithms in serial computing environment, decomposing inner relation is considered as the right direction to save disk I/Os. However, two different decomposition algorithms are compared, such as inner vs. outer decomposition first algorithms for tuple-based and block-based nested loop joins, showing that the proposed approach is 20% better than general approach. Also lemmas are proved, when we have to use the outer decomposition first parallel join algorithms.

Anti-apoptotic effect of banhasasim-tang on chronic acid reflux esophagitis

To evaluate the anti-apoptotic effect of banhasasim-tang (BHSST) on chronic acid reflux esophagitis (CARE) using a rat model. METHODSA surgically-induced CARE model was established in Sprague-Dawley rats. The modeled rats were divided into a treatment group or untreated group, and given BHSST (1 g/kg body weight per day) or water, respectively, for 15 consecutive days (n = 7 each group). Changes in expression of proteins related to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (nADpH) oxidase and apoptosis were assessed by western blotting. Changes in esophageal pathology were analyzed by gross and histological examinations. RESULTSThe CARE exposure modeled rats showed increased levels of the nADpH oxidase subunit, nOX4 and p47p>phoxp> in the esophagus. The BHSST treatment completely resolved these CARE-related increases. The CARE rats also showed markers of cytokine stress, including elevated levels of TnF-α and reactive oxygen species as well as of the consequent increase in JnK activation, and subsequent decrease in pro-survival gene expression, such as of Bcl-2. BHSST treatment resolved the CARE-related changes. BHSST also exerted an anti-apoptotic effect, as evidenced by altered expression of the apoptosis-related genes for bax, cytochrome c, and caspase 3. Finally, the BHSST treatment markedly ameliorated the CARE-related esophageal mucosal ulcerations. COnCLUSIOnIn the rat model of CARE, BHSST can suppress development of esophageal mucosal ulceration via regulation of reactive oxygen species-dependent apoptosis.

Several special mechanical properties,such as dilatancy and compressibility,of cemented paste backfill(CpB)are controlled by its internal microstructure and *** mesoscopic structure changes of CpB during the development process were *** the basis of the scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and mechanical test results of CpB,the particle size information of CpB was extracted,and a two-dimensional particle flow code(pFC)model of CpB was established to analyze the evolution rule of mesoscopic parameters during CpB *** embedded FISH language in pFC was used to develop a program for establishing a pFC model on the basis of the SEM *** mesoscopic parameters of CpB samples at different curing times,such as coordination number(C_(n)),contact force chain,and rose diagram,were obtained by recording and loading and used to analyze the intrinsic relationship between mesoscopic parameter variations and macroscopic mechanical response during CpB *** is of considerable significance to establish the physical model of CpB using the pFC to reveal the mesoscopic structure of CpB.

Spectral domain optical coherence tomography crosssectional image of optic nerve head during intraocular pressure elevation

AIM: To analyze changes of the optic nerve head(OnH) and peripapillary region during intraocular pressure(IOp) elevation in patients using spectral domain optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT).METHODS: Both an optic disc 200×200 cube scan and a high-definition 5-line raster scan were obtained from open angle glaucoma patients presented with monocular elevation of IOp(≥30 mm Hg) using SD-OCT. Additional baseline characteristics included age, gender, diagnosis,best-corrected visual acuity, refractive error, findings of slit lamp biomicroscopy, findings of dilated stereoscopic examination of the OnH and fundus, IOp, pachymetry findings, and the results of visual ***: The 24 patients were selected and divided into two groups: group 1 patients had no history of IOp elevation or glaucoma(n =14), and group 2 patients did have history of IOp elevation or glaucoma(n =10). In each patient, the study eye with elevated IOp was classified into group H(high), and the fellow eye was classified into group L(low). The mean deviation(MD)differed significantly between groups H and L when all eyes were considered(p =0.047) and in group 2(p =0.042), not in group 1(p =0.893). Retinal nerve fiber layer(RnFL) average thickness(p =0.050), rim area(p =0.015),vertical cup/disc ratio(p =0.011), cup volume(p =0.028),inferior quadrant RnFL thickness(p =0.017), and clockhour(1, 5, and 6) RnFL thicknesses(p =0.050, 0.012, and0.018, respectively), cup depth(p =0.008), central prelaminar layer thickness(p =0.023), mid-inferior prelaminar layer thickness(p =0.023), and nasal retinal slope(p =0.034)were significantly different between the eyes with groups H and ***:RnFLaveragethickness,rim area,vertical cup/disc ratio, cup volume, inferior quadrant RnFL thickness, and clock-hour(1, 5, and 6) RnFL thicknesses significantly changed during acute IOp elevation.
