Comparison of lipid extraction methods for the microalgae Acutodesmus obliquus

microalgae are widely used in the pharmaceutical and energy industries,therefore the conditions for their cultivation and extraction methods play an important role in the profiling and acquisition of *** efficiency of lipid extraction from microalgae has attracted great interest from industry because of the wide variety of lipids and amounts that can be *** obliquus(Scenedesmus obliquus UTEX 393)was used in this *** was cultivated in Bold 3n medium modified with 75%nitrogen at 25℃,pH 6.8,125 r/min and a photoperiod of 18/6 h and illuminated with white light provided by a Light-Emitting Diode Surface mount Device extensions(LED SmD)with an intensity of 1200μE/(m^(2)·s).The cells were stained with the Red nile(Rn)technique to indicate lipid *** extraction methods were compared,classical,microwave(mW),Soxhlet,and ultrasound(US),using the same solvent proportions(hexane:chloroform:methanol=1:2:3).All samples were analyzed with Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR)and Gas Chromatography coupled to mass Spectrometry(GC-mS).The results showed:1)lipid production detected by Rn was consistent with microalgal growth;2)the mW technique was the best extraction method,according to the statistical analysis through Randomized Complete Block(RCB)design and performance of 4.6%;and 3)the presence of saturated and unsaturated acids was indicated by FTIR ***-mS was able to identify palmitic and linoleic acids as the likely major constituents of the sample.

Role of T cell death in maintaining immune tolerance during persistent viral hepatitis

Virus-specific T cells play an important role in the resolution of hepatic infection. However, during chronic hepatitis infection these cells lack their effector functions and fail to control the virus. Hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus have developed several mechanisms to generate immune tolerance. One of these strategies is the depletion of virus-specific T cells by apoptosis. The immunotolerogenic liver has unique property to retain and activate na ve T cell to avoid the over reactivation of immune response against antigens which is exploited by hepatotropic viruses to persist. The deletion of the virus-specific T cells occurs by intrinsic (passive) apoptotic mechanism. The pro-apoptotic molecule Bcl-2 interacting mediator (Bim) has attracted increasing attention as a pivotal involvement in apoptosis, as a regulator of tissue homeostasis and an enhancer for the viral persistence. Here, we reviewed our current knowledge on the evidence showing critical role of Bim in viral-specific T cell death by apoptotic pathways and helps in the immune tolerance.

We present an immersed array of four rotors whose promoted flow can be mathematically modeled with a creeping flow solution from the incompressible navier-Stokes equations. We show that this solution is indeed representative of the two-dimensional experiment and validate such class of solution with experimental data obtained through the particle Image Velocimetry technique and time-lapsed particles visualizations.

Lipid-lowering effect of microencapsulated peptides from brewer’s spent grain in high-sucrose diet-fed rats

Brewer’s spent grain(BSG)-a byproduct generated from the processing of beer-brewing industry-is currently recognized as an important source of bioactive peptides with potential health *** previous studies we demonstrated that peptides obtained from BSG(BSG-p)can exert in vitro biofunctional activities including hypolipidemic ***,there are no studies about the effects of gastrointestinal digestion on BSG lipid-lowering peptides and it is unknown whether the bioactive properties observed in vitro remain in *** aims of this work were to evaluate the microencapsulation as strategy to preserve hypolipidemic BSG-p under a simulated gastrointestinal digestion,and the bioavailability of microencapsulated BSG-p using a rodent model of hyperlipidemia and other metabolic-related disorders induced by the consumption of a high-sucrose *** vitro studies showed that microencapsulation improved the BSG-p reduced hypolipidemic activity observed under a simulated gastrointestinal digestion by increasing the inhibition of the fat digestion enzymes,pancreatic lipase and cholesterol ***,in vivo studies demonstrated that microencapsulated BSG-p were also able to reduce the increased serum lipid levels(triglycerides-TG-cholesterol and free fatty acids),energy intake,visceral adipocytes size and TG content observed in sucrose-rich diet-fed *** was accompanied by reduced liver lipids levels and the activities of key enzymes involved in dietary fat ***,our findings show that microencapsulation is a useful strategy to preserve the hypolipidemic activity of BSG-p and support the concept that microencapsulated BSG-p would be an interesting and cheaper natural source to prevent hyperlipidemias and its related-disorders.

Impacts on the Urban Air Quality and Health of Global Climate Scenarios Using Different Dynamical Downscaling Approaches

The objective of this publication is to present a modeling system that allows investigating the possible climate change-driven effects of air pollutants on human health. The system connects global climate change to ambient air pollution concentrations that then are linked to epidemiological endpoints. The tool has been applied to quantify the future (2030, 2050 and 2100) impact on air pollution and health of two of the IpCC global climate scenarios over the cities: madrid, milan and London (zone Kensington-Chelsea) with different very high spatial resolutions (100, 200 and 10 meters) respect to the present (2011). Results indicate how ambient air pollutant concentrations respond to different climatic conditions, and how human health could be affected by changes in air pollution induced by global warning. The system includes global climate simulations, nested with regional/urban meteorological models (prognostic and diagnostic) to drive chemical transport models (offline and online modes) and a computational fluid dynamic model keeping anthropogenic emissions and the urban landscape at reference level (2011) to isolate the effects of the global climate over the city. The results of these simulations suggest that climate will have an important effect on urban air pollution and health over the next several decades, especially under the IpCC RCp 8.5 scenario.

Transport-Limited Denudation Regime Inferred from Sand petrography and Chemical Composition: Cenozoic Sediments from the Guadiana Basin (SW Spain)

The Guadiana Basin is an E-W intraplate Cenozoic basin located in SW of the Iberian peninsula, covering an area close to 6000 km2. nE-SW Alpine faults divide the basin into two subbasins: the Vegas Altas (VA) to the East, and the Vegas Bajas (VB) to the West. Sedimentary record consists of m thick of sediments, arranged in two main depositional sequences, DS1 and DS2. petrographic analysis of sediment sandy-fraction combined with geochemical analysis of mm fraction permit to infer provenance and factors controlling sediment composition. petrographic analysis of sandy-fraction reveals provenance from basin margins lithologies. In VA subbasin, quartzolithic petrofacies characterized eastern subbasin infill related to the erosion of neoproterozoic and palaeozoic metasediments. To the West quartzofeldspathic petrofacies predominates, associated with the erosion of coarse-grained plutonites and short distance transport of their products. Intermediate petrofacies characterizes clastic deposits from the VB. Chemical analysis of clastic deposits corroborates a main felsic origin of sediments with a composition that fits well with the upper crust compositional norm and with the neoproterozoic Iberian Average Shale (nIBAS). In addition, minor contributions from mafic sources can be identified in DS1 from VB, manifested by anomalies in the content of Co, ni, Cr, V and Sc. Different stages of weathering (from intermediate to intense) can be deduced by the analysis of both, sandy-fraction petrography and bulk sediment geochemistry. This fact is related to the great hiatus at the base of the Cenozoicbasin infill. Transport-limited denudation regimes can be inferred by the presence of high and intermediate weathered and texturalyinmature sediments. In addition, trace element ratios suggest local enrichment in dense minerals, attributable to recycling processes from metasediments. Finally, the sedimentary record of the Guadiana Basin is constituted by immature sediments for

Endogenous Endophthalmitis as a Triggering Factor for Fatal Bacterial meningitis Caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae: A Case Report

Endogenous endophthalmitis is a rare condition with a poor long-term visual prognosis and significant mortality, often associated with the hematogenous spread of intravitreal infections and subsequent disruption of the blood-ocular barrier. Its anatomical proximity to the central nervous system (CnS) poses a high risk of infection dissemination, although cases documented in the literature are rare, and endogenous endophthalmitis is typically described as secondary to neuroinfections. We report the case of an 82-year-old female patient with a history of hypertension who presented with fever, decreased visual acuity, severe headache, chemosis, and conjunctival injection. Endogenous endophthalmitis was diagnosed, and antimicrobial treatment was initiated alongside surgical intervention by the ophthalmology service. However, the patient’s condition worsened neurologically, and Streptococcus pneumoniae was identified in cerebrospinal fluid cultures. Despite intensive medical treatment, the patient’s clinical course was poor, leading to death.

Granulomatous mastitis: Incidence and Experience in a mexican Institute

The significance of this work is that chronic granulomatous disease can mimic two common breast diseases;breast cancer and breast abscess;so it is mandatory that the diagnosis is made in order to avoid mistaken carcinoma diagnosis. On the other hand, the current treatment of this particular disease still remains controversial. Objectives: The aim of this study is to expose and describe the chronicity and the impact in a patient’s quality of life with Granulomatous mastitis diagnosis. We describe the evolution of the disease and the treatment of the disease in a mexican Institution. material and methods: In a descriptive retrospective study we identified 9 patients with idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (ImG), all of them were diagnosed with histopathological findings. Results: In a period of time between January 2005 and December 2017, we included a total of 9 female patients. All of them have had histopathological findings consistent with granulomatous mastitis. The age range was 25 - 83 years old (mean 50.8 yrs). In 4 patients (44.4%) had the right side affected, three patients (33.3%) had the left side affected and 2 patients (22.2%) had a bilateral presentation. In 3 patients (33.3%) we observed more than one affected quadrant and 4 patients (44.4%) had a diffuse presentation on image. The most common symptom was breast pain in 9 patients (100%) and the most common sign was the presence of a nodule, 8 patients (88.8%). We observed erythema in 7 cases (77.7%) followed by abscess, edema and pus secretion in 6 patients (66.6%). The most frequent treatment was the use of a combination of nAIDs and antibiotic in 8 patients (88.8%). Six patients were incised with scalp and drained. Six patients underwent mastectomy.

Skin cancer is one of themost severe diseases,andmedical imaging is among themain tools for cancer *** images provide information on the evolutionary stage,size,and location of tumor *** paper focuses on the classification of skin lesion images considering a framework of four experiments to analyze the classification performance of Convolutional neural networks(Cnns)in distinguishing different skin *** Cnns are based on transfer learning,taking advantage of Imagenet ***,in each experiment,different workflow stages are tested,including data augmentation and fine-tuning *** Cnn models based on Densenet-201,Inception-Resnet-V2,and Inception-V3 are proposed and compared using the HAm10000 *** results obtained by the three models demonstrate accuracies of 98%,97%,and 96%,***,the best model is tested on the ISIC 2019 dataset showing an accuracy of 93%.The proposed methodology using Cnn represents a helpful tool to accurately diagnose skin cancer disease.
