pedotransfer Functions for Estimating Soil Hydraulic properties： A Review

Characterization of soil hydraulic properties is important to environment management; however, it is well recognized that it is laborious, time-consuming and expensive to directly measure soil hydraulic properties. This paper reviews the development of pedotransfer functions(pTFs) used as an alternative tool to estimate soil hydraulic properties during the last two decades. Modern soil survey techniques like satellite imagery/remote sensing has been used in developing pTFs. Compared to mechanistic approaches,empirical relationships between physical properties and hydraulic properties have received wide preference for predicting soil hydraulic properties. Many pTFs based on different parametric functions can be found in the literature. A number of researchers have pursued a universal function that can describe water retention characteristics of all types of soils, but no single function can be termed generic though van Genuchten(VG) function has been the most widely adopted. Most of the reported parametric pTFs focus on estimation of VG parameters to obtain water retention curve(WRC). A number of physical, morphological and chemical properties have been used as predictor variables in pTFs. Conventionally, regression algorithms/techniques(statistical/neural regression) have been used for calibrating pTFs. However, there are reports of utilizing data mining techniques, e.g., pattern recognition and genetic *** is inferred that it is critical to refine the data used for calibration to improve the accuracy and reliability of the pTFs. Many statistical indices, including root mean square error(RMSE), index of agreement(d), maximum absolute error(ME), mean absolute error(MAE), coefficient of determination(r^2) and correlation coefficient(r), have been used by different researchers to evaluate and validate pTFs. Study of the Geometry and Folding pattern of Leaves of Mimosa pudica

Many structural and functional properties possessed by plants have great potentials to stimulate new concepts and innovative ideas in the field of biomimetic engineering. The key inputs from biology can be used for creation of efficient and optimized structures. The study of the geometry and folding pattern of leaves of Mimosa pudica, referred as Sensitive plant, reveals some of the peculiar characteristics during folding and unfolding. When the leaf is touched, it quickly folds its leaflets and pinnae and droops downward at the petiole attachment. With the help of experiments on simulation model, the variations in angle of leaflets and degree of compaction after folding are investigated.

On-Line Defect Detection of Aluminum Coating Using Fiber Optic Sensor

Aluminum metallization using the sprayed coating for exhaust mild steel （MS） pipes of tractors is a standard practice for avoiding rusting. patches of thin metal coats are prone to rusting and are thus considered as defects in the surface coating. This paper reports a novel configuration of the fiber optic sensor for on-line checking the aluminum metaUization uniformity and hence for defect detection. An optimally chosen high bright 440 nm BLUE LED （light-emitting diode） launches light into a transmitting fiber inclined at the angle of 60° to the surface under inspection placed adequately. The reflected light is transported by a receiving fiber to a blue enhanced photo detector. The metallization thickness on the coated surface results in visually observable variation in the gray shades. The coated pipe is spirally inspected by a combination of linear and rotary motions. The sensor output is the signal conditioned and monitored with RISHUBH DAS. Experimental results show the good repeatability in the defect detection and coating non-uniformity measurement.

Objective:To evaluate antidiabetic activity of chloroform extracts of Acacia arabica bark, Benincasa hispida fruit,Tinispora cordifolia stem,Ocimum sanctum areal parts and Jatropha curcus ***:The chloroform extracts of Acacia arabica bark,Benincasa hispida fruit,Tinospora cordifolia stem,aerial part of Ocimum sanctum and Jatropha curcus leaves were evaluated at different doses(250 and 500 mg/kg body weight.) for antidiabetic potentials in alloxan induced diabetic albino *** extracts were administered for two weeks in different groups whereas tolbutamide(80 mg/kg body weight) was used as reference standard throughout ***:The result of present study showed test compounds significantly decreases elevated level of serum glucose and also caused to reverse the cholesterol,triglyceride,HDL and LDL values when compared to untreated diabetic ***:Our finding indicates that different test extracts were able to ameliorate the derangements in lipid metabolism caused by diabetes mellitus in alloxan induced diabetic rats towards normal level.

Geochemical evidences of trace metal anomalies for finding hydrocarbon microseepage in the petroliferous regions of the Tatipaka and pasarlapudi areas of Krishna Godavari Basin,India

The long-term seepage of hydrocarbons, either as macroseepage or microseepage, can set up near-surface oxidation reduction zones that favor the development of a diverse array of chemical and mineralogical changes. The bacterial oxidation of light hydrocarbons can directly or indirectly bring about significant changes in the values of pH and Eh of the surrounding environment, thereby also changing the stability fields of the different mineral species present in that environment. The paper reports the role of hydrocarbon microseepage in surface alterations of trace metal concentrations. In this study trace metal alterations were mapped that appear to be associated with hydrocarbon microseepages in the oil/ gas fields. A total of 50 soil samples were collected near oil and gas fields of the Tatipaka and pasarlapudi areas of the Krishna Godavari Basin, Andhra pradesh. The soil samples were collected from a depth of 2-2.5 m. The paper reports the chemical alterations associated with trace metals in soils that are related to hydrocarbon microseepages above some of the major oil and gas fields of this petroliferous region. Trace metals, such as scandium （Sc）, vanadium （V）, chromium （Cr）, cobalt （Co）, nickel （Ni）, copper （Cu）, zinc （Zn）, barium （Ba） and strontium （Sr）, in soil samples were analyzed using inductively coupled plasma- mass spectrometry （ICp-MS）. The concentrations of Sc （8 to 40 mg/kg）, V （197 to 489 mg/kg）, Cr （106 to 287 mg/kg）, Co （31 to 52 mg/kg）, Ni （65 to 110 mg/kg）, Cu （88 to 131 mg/kg）, Zn （88 to 471 mg/kg）, Ba （263 to 3,091 mg/kg） and Sr （119 to 218 mg/kg） were obtained. It was observed that the concentrations of trace elements were tremendously increased when they were compared with their normal concentrations in soils. The analysis of adsorbed soil gas showed the presence of high concentrations of YC2＋（C2H6, C3H8 and n-C4H10） ranging from 7 to 222 μg/kg respectively. Objective:To investigate effects of ethanol extract of Abrus precatorius leaves（EApL） on egg albumin induced mast cell degranulation in mice and passive cutaneous anaphylaxis in rats. Methods:In present study ethanol extract of Abrus precatorius leaves（EApL） at doses of 100,125, 150 mg/kg i.p were evaluated for preliminary phytochemical screening,acute toxicity studies and egg albumin induced mast cell degranulation in mice and passive cutaneous anaphylaxis in rats. 本文介绍了机器学习(ML)算法在带扭带插件的换热器传热关联(如努塞尔数和摩擦系数)建模中的应用.采用换热器在不同雷诺数(Re)、扭转比(t)、穿孔率(p)和不同扭带数(n)下的实验数据进行相关建模.在数据驱动的代理建模中使用了三种机器学习算法:多项式回归(pR)、随机森林(RF)和人工神经网络(ANN).为了保证模型的通用性,对ML模型的超参数进行了优化,分析了不同ML算法的性能参数(如R 2和MAE).结果表明,在不同的测试数据集上,人工神经网络对传热系数的预测优于pR和RF的预测.基于本文分析内容,对未来数据驱动的传热关联建模工作和类似研究提出了建议.
