Hybrid-Vlasov simulation of soft X-ray emissions at the Earth’s dayside magnetospheric boundaries

Solar wind charge exchange produces emissions in the soft X-ray energy range which can enable the study of near-Earth space regions such as the magnetopause,the magnetosheath and the polar cusps by remote sensing *** Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer(SMILE)and Lunar Environment heliospheric X-ray Imager(LEXI)missions aim to obtain soft Xray images of near-Earth space thanks to their Soft X-ray Imager(SXI)*** earlier modeling works have already simulated soft X-ray images as might be obtained by SMILE SXI during its mission,the numerical models used so far are all based on the magnetohydrodynamics description of the space *** investigate the possible signatures of ion-kinetic-scale processes in soft Xray images,we use for the first time a global hybrid-Vlasov simulation of the geospace from the Vlasiator *** simulation is driven by fast and tenuous solar wind conditions and purely southward interplanetary magnetic *** first produce global X-ray images of the dayside near-Earth space by placing a virtual imaging satellite at two different locations,providing meridional and equatorial *** then analyze regional features present in the images and show that they correspond to signatures in soft X-ray emissions of mirrormode wave structures in the magnetosheath and flux transfer events(FTEs)at the *** results suggest that,although the time scales associated with the motion of those transient phenomena will likely be significantly smaller than the integration time of the SMILE and LEXI imagers,mirror-mode structures and FTEs can cumulatively produce detectable signatures in the soft X-ray *** instance,a local increase by 30%in the proton density at the dayside magnetopause resulting from the transit of multiple FTEs leads to a 12%enhancement in the line-of-sight-and time-integrated soft X-ray emissivity originating from this ***,a proton density increase by 14%in the magnetosheath

Spectroscopy of Low-lying States in Odd-Z Odd-A Nuclei Beyond Lead

Low-lying states in odd-Z odd-mass nuclei at the proton drip-line beyond lead have recently been studied through fusion-evaporation reactions using a gas-filled recoil separator. Isomeric 1/2+and13/2+states have been observed in odd-mass astatine and francium nuclei. The systematic behaviour of the level energies of these states have been studied and a similarity between the 1/2+state in astatine and francium has been found. Furthermore, the 13/2+state has been observed in the francium nuclei with an oblate behaviour suggesting a coupling of the i13/2proton to the 2p- 2h intruder excitation.

Visual queries assist non-expert users to extract information from spatial databases in an intuitive and natural approach,making Geographic information systems comprehensive and efficient for a wide range of applications.A common visual means of querying takes the form of drawings or graphs,under which many spatial ambiguity and translation errors *** this study,common query attributes extracted from user graphs such as spatial topology,size,cardinality,and proximity are regarded under a conceptual moderation ***,the system/user may concentrate on various conceptual combinations of ***,time is incorporated to support spatiotemporal queries for changing scenes and moving ***,relative,and absolute scaling is possible according to the data-set and application at *** theoretic approach is implemented under a prototype user interface system,called *** this prototype,a user may extract scene-based relations in an automatically inferred fashion,or include single object-oriented relations when all possible relations seem ***,a natural language description of the query is extracted upon which the user may select the desired query *** on a spatial database demonstrates the concepts of predefined draw objects,scaling relaxation,conceptual abstraction,and scene,object-and textual-oriented transitions that promote query expressiveness and restrain ambiguities.

Moirépatterns arising from bilayer graphone/graphene superlattice

Moirépatterns from two-dimensional(2D)graphene heterostructures assembled via van der Waals interactions have sparked considerable interests in physics with the purpose to tailor the electronic properties of *** we report for the first time the observation of moire patterns arising from a bilayer graphone/graphene superlattice produced through direct single-sided hydrogenation of a bilayer graphene on *** to pristine graphene,the bilayer superlattice exhibits a rippled surface and two types of moire patterns are observed:triangular and linear moire patterns with the periodicities of 11 nm and 8-9 nm,*** moire patterns are revealed from atomic force microscopy and further confirmed by following fast Fourier transform(FFT)*** functional theory(DFT)calculations are also performed and the optimized lattice constants of bilayer superlattice heterostructure are in line with our experimental *** findings show that well-defined triangular and linear periodic potentials can be introduced into the graphene system through the single-sided hydrogenation and also open a route towards the tailoring of electronic properties of graphene by various moirépotentials.

Awareness, knowledge, and attitudes towards sun protection among patients with melanoma and atypical mole syndrome

BACKGROUND patients with atypical mole syndrome(AMS)have a 3-to 20-fold higher risk of developing malignant melanoma(MM)than individuals *** most modifiable risk factor for developing MM is the ongoing ultraviolet *** To assess awareness,knowledge,and attitudes towards sun protection among patients with MM and *** From January 2020 till December 2021,a written survey was administered to patients with MM and AMS and a control group who attended a specialist mole clinic at the Dermatology Department of the University Hospital of Heraklion in Heraklion,Crete,*** data and photoprotective practices,knowledge,and perceived barriers were *** statistical analyses were performed using SpSS IBM *** In total,121 subjects consented and participated in the *** mean age was 43.92±12.55 *** were 66(54.4%)females and 55(45.4%)***-seven(38.8%)patients had AMS,26(21.5%)had a past medical history of MM,and 48(39.7%)attended the clinic for a full skin checkup for their naevi without having AMS or *** 104(86%)participants reported using sunscreen with the majority of them(59/121=48.8%)wearing sunscreen with a sun protection factor of>50,only 22(18.2%)patients did so every day and only 20(16.5%)all year *** 74.4%of patients recalled having received advice on how to protect their skin from sunlight,and 73%were interested in receiving education about sun *** most mentioned barriers in photoprotection were concerns over adequate vitamin D and lack of *** Despite mentioning having received adequate education in photoprotection,adherence to photoprotection practices is suboptimal in patients with MM and AMS.

Design of poiseuille Flow Controllers Using the Method of Inequalities

This paper investigates the use of the method of inequalities （MoI） to design output-feedback compensators for the problem of the control of instabilities in a laminar plane poiseuille flow. In common with many flows, the dynamics of streamwise vortices in plane poiseuille flow are very non-normal. Consequently, small perturbations grow rapidly with a large transient that may trigger nonlinearities and lead to turbulence even though such perturbations would, in a linear flow model, eventually decay. Such a system can be described as a conditionally linear system. The sensitivity is measured using the maximum transient energy growth, which is widely used in the fluid dynamics community. The paper considers two approaches. In the first approach, the MoI is used to design low-order proportional and proportional-integral （pI） controllers. In the second one, the MoI is combined with McFarlane and Glover＇s H∞ loop-shaping design procedure in a mixed-optimization approach.
