The crystallinity of ethylene-butene copolymers prepared by copolymerization of ethylene and butene in the presence of a new highly active catalyst was studied by means of DSC, WAXD and DMA. The results show that the melting temperature, the crystallinity and the crystallite size decreased with increasing the content of butene in the copolymers. The copolymers have a high degree of branching, the butene segments are mainly in the amorphous regions of the copolymers, while the polyethylene sequence forms crystal phase acting as crosslinking bondage between the molecules at room temperature. The ethylene-butene copolymers have a low modulus, a low stress and a high strain analogous to the stress-strain behavior of non-cross thermoplastic elastomer.

This study assessed the performance of residential buildings in public housing estates in urban areas of Ogun State Southwest Nigeria. It was based on the notion that users＇ satisfaction with dwelling units is a measure of the performance of residential buildings in meeting their needs and expectations. A cross sectional survey of 452 household heads in nine public housing estates was conducted in the study area. Data were obtained using structured questionnaire and observation schedule; and were subjected to descriptive statistics and factor analysis. A mean satisfaction score of 3.21 was observed; indicating that the respondents were generally satisfied with the performance of the different components of the buildings. Satisfaction levels were generally higher with privacy and sizes of living and sleeping areas than the availability of water and electricity in the buildings. The type, location and aesthetic appearance as well as size of main activity areas were the most predominant factors that determined satisfaction and indeed the performance of the buildings in meeting users＇ needs and expectations. The p.per highlights critical areas where attention is needed in order to improve the performance of residential buildings and users＇ satisfaction with public housing projects in Nigeria.

The electrical characterization of bone is essential for the better understanding of the role of electrical stimulation in bone remodeling. Calcium Hydrogen phosphate Dihydrate or brushite (CaHpO4 2H2O) has been used in bone substitution owing to their fast resorption under physiological condition. Brushite is a suitable matrix for osteoconductive bone grafts. In this work, Calcium Hydrogen phosphate single crystals have been grown by single diffusion gel growth technique. The powder XRD studies revealed the monoclinic structure of the grown crystals. The vibrational analysis of the crystals is done with FTIR spectroscopy and the major functional groups and their assigned vibrations are discussed. The frequency dependence of dielectric constant and ac conductivity at different temperatures have been studied in detail. This study shows decrease in the dielectric constant with the increase in frequency and temperature. The variation of ac conductivity is found to be increasing with frequency and decreasing with temperature.

Microstructures and service performance(mechanical and electrical properties) of the commercially pure Al conductor wires subjected to different cold drawing strains were investigated. The results show that the microstructures of the cold-drawn Al wires along the radial direction were inhomogeneous, i.e. the texture in the center region was strong and weak components, while that in the surface region shifted from the initial cubic texture to a component and finally developed into a strong component. The volume fraction of the high angle grain boundaries in the surface region was higher than that in the center region. The cold-drawing process greatly enhanced the yield strength of the pure Al wires while retained the acceptable electrical resistivity. The strengthening mechanism and the variation of electrical conductivity of the cold-drawn Al wires are discussed through correlating with microstructure evolution.

Housing development has become one of the main strategies to alleviate impoverished communities in developing countries. In the past, policies and programs focused on either economic or social aspects, and numerous imported solutions had failed to produce satisfactory results. At present, holistic approaches integrating all dimensions of human activity and environmental impact are gaining recognition as suitable alternatives for various experiences in developing nations. However, these approaches do not properly consider the local context, which is different for each case, thereby leading to inadequate models and unsuccessful implementations. This p.per presents a context-driven and integrated approach for rural areas in developing nations for one of the most basic human endeavors, i.e., constructing a house. The self-building process utilized in constructing houses is a major strategy to help communities overcome poverty. Such a house must be capable of accommodating economic activities; must be durable yet flexible in layout and size; and must offer all basic services, including water, sanitation, and energy. Consequently, the Inclusive Housing program is developed and employed in Oe-Cusse, a remote region of East Timor, as an integral part of the Regional plan.

It was first shown in the present study that layers of manganite γ-Mn OOH can be deposited on the surface of a substrate by its multiple successive treatment by the solutions of MnSO;and K;S;O;using the successive ionic layer deposition（SILD） technique. Their analysis was carried out by the XRD, XpS, FT-IR,SEM and EDX methods. It has shown that the synthesized layers are formed by aggregates of nanorods up to 80–100 nm in length and approximately 8–10 nm in diameter. A probable sequence of chemical reactions leading to the formation of a layer of the given morphology is suggested. Testing of performance of supercapacitors with nickel foam electrodes incorporating the γ-Mn OOH layers in the 0.1 M KOH electrolyte at 1 A/g indicated the specific capacitance equal to 1120 F/g. After 1000 work cycles the observed degradation of this value was less than 3%.

Aim: The data on semen analysis of subjects attending the Fertility Clinic at NIHFW (National Institute of Health and Family Welfare) Munirka, New Delhi for the last 11 years were analyzed to verify the claims and speculations on declining sperm counts in men. Methods: Approximately 10 % of the records every year starting from 1990 to 2000 (numbering 1176 in total) were randomly selected for analysis. Subjects with azoospermia or severe oligozoospermia were excluded from analysis. Results: The average age of the men attending the infertility clinic was 31.2 years. The average semen volume and sperm count were found to be (2.6 ±0.1) mL and (60.6 ± 0.9) × 106/mL, respectively. No significant decline in sperm counts was observed in any year during the entire study period. Only 1.8 % of the total number of sperm counts in the random sampling were less then 20 × 106/mL. On the basis of WHO criteria on motility, the total percentage of non-progressive and non-motile sperm in the ejaculate was higher (63 %) as compared to the combined categories of slow and rapid linear progressive. Conclusion: The present study has confirmed similar findings from other different countries that declining sperm counts in humans is not a global phenomenon.
