Solitary kinetic Alfvén waves in a dense electron–positron–ion plasma with degenerate electrons and positrons

Through the use of a reductive perturbation technique, solitary kinetic Alfvén waves（kAWs） are investigated in a low but finite b（particle-to-magnetic pressure ratio） dense electron–positron–ion plasma where electrons and positrons are degenerate. The degenerate plasma model considered here permits the existence of sub-Alfvénic compressive solitary kAWs. The influence of r（equilibrium positron-to-ion density ratio）, sF（electron-to-positron Fermi temperature ratio）, b and obliqueness parameter lzon various characteristics of solitary kAWs are examined through numerical plots. We have shown that there exists a critical value of lzat which a soliton width attains its maximum value which decreases with an increase in r and *** is also found that solitons with a higher energy propagate more obliquely in the direction of an ambient magnetic field. The results of the present investigation may be useful for understanding low frequency nonlinear electromagnetic wave propagation in magnetized electron–positron–ion plasmas in dense stars. Specifically, the relevance of our investigation to a pulsar magnetosphere is emphasized.

Statistical analysis of pressure fluctuations in spouted beds has been used as a well-established diagnostic tool to determine bed and flow characteristics because of its smooth operation. However, in many recent and conventional applications of spouted beds such as drying, coal gasification, catalytic conversion, biomass treatment, and chemical vapor deposition, direct estimation of the heat transfer rate from the solid bed to the gas or vice versa has proven to be difficult. A variance and spectral analysis of pressure fluctuation is extended here to characterize the heat transfer phenomena in a spouted bed. In the present study, zirconia and alumina were used as the bed materials, and argon and nitrogen were used as the spouting gases. Experiments were conducted at various heating rates for different superficial gas velocities for a range of temperatures up to 300 °C. Significant changes in the gas density and viscosity with different extents of heat transfer were observed to affect the momentum diffusivity and gas–particle interaction, which in turn led to local pressure fluctuations, causing the bed to behave differently. In the present work, a novel approach is proposed to establish a link between local pressure fluctuation and the extent of heat transfer in the bed. This method shows potential for correlation of the statistics of pressure fluctuation with the thermal properties of individual solids and gases. Thus, the technique can be extended to many industrial applications for the indirect estimation of the extent of heat transfer and prediction of unknown thermal properties of products in solids or gases.

The present study was designed to ascertain the in vivo protective efficacy of Ca2+ channel blockers against dermally applied sulphny mustard (SM). Male albino mice were exposed to 1. 5 LD50 of SM (232 mg/kg) percutaneously and the control group received an equal volume of vehicle (polyethylene glycol 300). prior to SM application, the animals were administered nifedipine and dextrose saline containing antibiotic by intraperitoneal route. The protection assessed by the mean survival time (MST) was determined by Dunnett's method. The MST was significantly increased in nifedipine treated *** characteristic biochemical indices of SM intoxication, i. e. lipid peroxidation and reduced glutathione (GSH) were determined in liver from animals sacrificed at 24, 48 and 72 h after exposure. SM application (1 LD50) caused a reduction in GSH level which was restored in nifedipine treated group. SM-induced lipid peroxidation was also prevented by nifedipine administration. The protective effect of nifedipine may be related to its capacity of attenuating SM-induced lipid peroxidation and glutathione depletion

The dynamic pressure distribution on a rectangular plate attached to a rigid wall and supporting an infinitely large extent of fluid subjected to a harmonic ground excitation is evaluated in the time domain. Governing equations for the fluid domain are set considering the compressibility of the fluid with negligibly small change in density and a linearized free surface. A far boundary condition for the three-dimensional fluid domain is developed so that the far boundary is truncated at a closer proximity to the structure. The coupled problem is solved independently for the structure and the fluid domain by transferring the acceleration of the plate to the fluid and pressure of the fluid to the plate in sequence. Helmholtz equation for the three-dimensional fluid domain and Mindlin＇s theory for the two-dimensional plate are used for the solution of the interacting domains. Finite element technique is adopted for the solution of this problem with pressure as nodal variable for the fluid domain and displacement for the plate. The time dependent equations are solved in each of the interacting domain using Newmark-fl method. The effectiveness of the technique is demonstrated and the influences of surface wave, exciting frequency and flexibility of the plate on dynamic pressure are investigated.

This paper proposes a new methodology to optimize trajectory of the path for multi-robots using improved gravitational search algorithm(IGSA) in clutter environment. Classical GSA has been improved in this paper based on the communication and memory characteristics of particle swarm optimization(pSO). IGSA technique is incorporated into the multi-robot system in a dynamic framework, which will provide robust performance, self-deterministic cooperation, and coping with an inhospitable environment. The robots in the team make independent decisions, coordinate, and cooperate with each other to accomplish a common goal using the developed IGSA. A path planning scheme has been developed using IGSA to optimally obtain the succeeding positions of the robots from the existing position in the proposed environment. Finally, the analytical and experimental results of the multi-robot path planning were compared with those obtained by IGSA, GSA and differential evolution(DE) in a similar environment. The simulation and the khepera environment result show outperforms of IGSA as compared to GSA and DE with respect to the average total trajectory path deviation, average uncovered trajectory target distance and energy optimization in terms of rotation.
