Morphotaxonomy and seasonal distribution of planktonic and benthic prorocentrales in Karachi waters,pakistan Northern Arabian Sea

Morphotaxonomy and seasonal abundance of dinoflagellates of the genera prorocentrum and Mesoporos （prorocentrales） were studied from nutrient-rich waters, Karachi Harbor and the mouth of the Manora Channel, pakistan during May 2002-july 2003. Using both light and scanning electron microscopy, 13 species of prorocentrales were identified according to cell shape, size, ornamentation of thecal plates, and architecture of apical platelets, apical pore area, marginal pores, and intercalary bands. p. sigmoides, p. arcuatum, p. scutellum, p. donghaiense, p. balticum, p. minimum, p. emarginatum, p. lima, p. faustiae, and Mesoporos perforatus constitute new records for sindh coast of pakistan. The most abundant species were p. minimum/p, balticum （4.5x103 cells/L）, p. micans （1.1~103 cells/L）, p. gracile/p, sigmoides （2.5 x 102 cells/L） and p. donghaiense （6.6 x 103 cells/L） at temperatures of 29-31 ~C and salinities of 35-40. Maximum abundance was observed in winter and lower abundance in summer. There was no significant change in the distribution of species between stations except for the benthic species which occurred close to Karachi Harbor waters. Significant positive correlations were observed between prorocentrum spp. and temperature （R2=0.27） and negative correlations with salinity （R2=-0.32） except for p. minimum and p. emarginatum which has negative correlation with temperature （R2=-0.24） and positive with salinity （R2=0.08, 0.19）. The finding of potential okadaic-acid producing species of benthic prorocentrum call for monitoring for possible human health problems in this region.

Environmental Exposure to Lead as a Risk for prostate Cancer

Objective To evaluate the possible role of environmental exposure to lead as a risk factor for prostate pathology in patients suffering from prostate cancer (pCA) and benign prostate hyperplasia (BpH). Methods Blood lead (Bpb) level was determined in pCA and BpH cases using a graphite furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer and compared with those in a control group living in the similar socioeconomic environment. Results Bpb was significantly higher in pCA and BpH cases than in normals (ppper were significantly lower in pCA and BpH cases when compared with controls (pps, a statistically significant positive correlation between lead and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TEARS) measured as malondialdehyde, and negative correlation between blood lead and antioxidant GSH level, indicative of possible generation of reactive oxygen species, were also observed after adjusting for age as a possible confounders. However, positive association between blood lead and TEARS was relatively higher in pCA patients (r=0.77, ppH (r=0.32, pppower seem to suggest for the first time that environmental exposure of aging males to lead may be a risk factor for prostate cancer and/or benign prostate hyperplasia possibly through generation of reactive oxygen species and/or reducing the level of zinc which acts as a cellular growth protector.

Structural and mechanical properties of Al–C–N films deposited at room temperature by plasma focus device

The Al–C–N films are deposited on Si substrates by using a dense plasma focus（DpF） device with aluminum fitted central electrode（anode） and by operating the device with CH_4/N_2 gas admixture ratio of 1：1. XRD results verify the crystalline Al N（111） and Al_3CON（110） phase formation of the films deposited using multiple shots. The elemental compositions as well as chemical states of the deposited Al–C–N films are studied using XpS analysis, which affirm Al–N, C–C, and C–N bonding. The FESEM analysis reveals that the deposited films are composed of nanoparticles and nanoparticle agglomerates. The size of the agglomerates increases at a higher number of focus deposition shots for multiple shot depositions. Nanoindentation results reveal the variation in mechanical properties（nanohardness and elastic modulus）of Al–C–N films deposited with multiple shots. The highest values of nanohardness and elastic modulus are found to be about 11 and 185 Gpa, respectively, for the film deposited with 30 focus deposition shots. The mechanical properties of the films deposited using multiple shots are related to the Al content and C–N bonding.

Defining response to radiotherapy in rectal cancer using magnetic resonance imaging and histopathological scales

AIM To define good and poor regression using pathology and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) regression scales after neo-adjuvant chemotherapy for rectal *** A systematic review was performed on all studies up to December 2015, without language restriction, t h a t w e r e i d e n t i f i e d f r o m M E D L I N E, C o c h r a n e Controlled Trials Register(1960-2015), and EMBASE(1991-2015). Searches were performed of article bibliographies and conference abstracts. MeS H and text words used included "tumour regression", "mr TRG", "poor response" and "colorectal cancers". Clinical studies using either MRI or histopathological tumour regression grade(TRG) scales to define good and poor responders were included in relation to outcomes [local recurrence(LR), distant recurrence(DR), disease-free survival(DFS), and overall survival(OS)]. There was no age restriction or stage of cancer restriction for patient inclusion. Data were extracted by two authors working independently and using pre-defined outcome *** Quantitative data(prevalence) were extracted and analysed according to meta-analytical techniques using comprehensive meta-analysis. Qualitative data(LR, DR, DFS and OS) were presented as ranges. The overall proportion of poor responders after neo-adjuvant chemoradiotherapy(CRT) was 37.7%(95%CI: 30.1-45.8). There were 19 different reported histopathological scales and one MRI regression scale(mrT RG). Clinical studies used nine and six histopathological scales for poor and good responders, respectively. All studies using MRI to define good and poor response used one scale. The most common histopathological definition for good response was the Mandard grades 1 and 2 or Dworak grades 3 and 4; Mandard 3, 4 and 5 and Dworak 0, 1 and 2 were used for poor response. For histopathological grades, the 5-year outcomes for poor responders were LR 3.4%-4.3%, DR 14.3%-20.3%, DFS 61.7%-68.1% and OS 60.7-69.1. Good pathological response 5-year outcomes were LR

Using surplus production model packages of ASpIC(a stock-production model incorporating covariates) and CEDA(Catch effort data analysis),we analyzed the catch and effort data of Sillago sihama fishery in *** estimates the pa-rameters of MSY(maximum sustainable yield),Fmsy(fishing mortality),q(catchability coefficient),K(carrying capacity or unexploited biomass) and B1/K(maximum sustainable yield over initial biomass).The estimated non-bootstrapped value of MSY based on logistic was 598 t and that based on the Fox model was 415 t,which showed that the Fox model estimation was more conservative than that with the logistic *** R2 with the logistic model(0.702) is larger than that with the Fox model(0.541),which indicates a better *** coefficient of variation(cv) of the estimated MSY was about 0.3,except for a larger value 88.87 and a smaller value of *** contrast to the ASpIC results,the R2 with the Fox model(0.651-0.692) was larger than that with the Schaefer model(0.435-0.567),indicating a better *** key parameters of CEDA are:MSY,K,q,and r(intrinsic growth),and the three error assumptions in using the models are normal,log normal and *** estimates from the Schaefer and pella-Tomlinson models were *** MSY estimations from the above two models were 398 t,549 t and 398 t for normal,log-normal and gamma error distributions,*** MSY estimates from the Fox model were 381 t,366 t and 366 t for the above three error assumptions,*** Fox model estimates were smaller than those for the Schaefer and the pella-Tomlinson *** the light of the MSY estimations of 415 t from ASpIC for the Fox model and 381 t from CEDA for the Fox model,MSY for *** is about 400 *** the catch in 2003 was 401 t,we would suggest the fishery should be kept at the current *** models used here depend on the assumption that CpUE(catch per unit effort) data used in the study can reliably quantify temporal vari

Mathematical model for the ciliary-induced transport of seminal liquids through the ductuli efferentes

This study describes the consequences of the ciliary motion on the transport of seminal liquid through the ductus efferentes of the male reproductive tract. By assuming the seminal liquid as a couple stress fluid, we have formulated a mathematical model for a two-dimensional flow through an axially symmetric tube whose inner surface is ciliated in the form of a metachronal wave. The governing system consists of nonlinear coupled partial differential equations which is reduced to a system of ordinary differential equa- tions by utilizing the long wavelength approximation in an environment of the inertia free flow. Exact solutions for the velocity distribution, the pressure gradient and the stream function are obtained in terms of the couple stress parameters and the ciliary metachronism. Special attention is given to the pumping and the trapping characteristics due to the cilia motility. The study reveals that the ciliary pumping has to be more efficient to transport a couple stress fluid as compared to a Newtonian fluid. Moreover, the theoretical results for the couple stress fluid are found to be in good agreement with those reported by IT. j. Laxdner and W. j. Shack, Cilia transport, Bull. Math, Biophys, 34 （1972） 325-335]. The analytical results are also displayed in graphical form.

Risk scoring model for prediction of non-home discharge after transcatheter aortic valve replacement

Background patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement(TAVR) are likely to be discharged to a location other than home. We aimed to determine the association between preoperative risk factors and non-home discharge after TAVR. Methods patients discharged alive after TAVR at three centers were identified from a prospectively maintained database randomly divided into 80% derivation and 20% validation cohorts. Logistic regression models were fit to identify preoperative factors associated with non-home discharge in the derivation cohort. Multivariable models were developed and a nomogram based risk-scoring system was developed for use in preoperative counseling. Results Between june 2012 and December 2018, a total of 1,163 patients had TAVR at three centers. Thirty-seven patients who died before discharge were excluded. Of the remaining 1,126 patients(97%) who were discharged alive, the incidence of non-home discharge was 25.6%(n = 289). The patient population was randomly divided into the 80%(n = 900) derivation cohort and 20%(n = 226) validation cohort. Mean ± SD age of the study population was 83 ± 8 years. In multivariable analysis, factors that were significantly associated with non-home discharge were extreme age, female sex, higher STS scores, use of general anesthesia, elective procedures, chronic liver disease, non-transfemoral approach and postoperative complications. The unbiased estimate of the C-index was 0.81 and the model had excellent calibration. Conclusions One out of every four patients undergoing TAVR is discharged to a location other than home. Identification of preoperative factors associated with non-home discharge can assist patient counseling and postoperative disposition planning.

Geostatistical data plays a vibrant role for surface-based reservoir modeling through outcrop analogues,which is used to understand three-dimensional(3D)variability of petrophysical *** main purpose of this study is to improvise the surface-based 3D geo-modeling to demonstrate petrophysical characteristics and heterogeneities of Sandakan reservoirs,NW *** used point cloud data from Light Detection and Ranging(Li DAR)to build high-resolution virtual outcrop modeling(VOM)onto which we mapped 6 different *** and permeability of core plugs were measured to determine the average variance of petrophysical properties for each *** utilizing the integration of VOMs analogues and petrophysical properties in petrel^(TM),we demonstrated the distribution and associations of all lithofacies in pseudo wells that have inherent thin beds heterogeneities in 3D geocellular *** results concluded that the heterogeneity of thin beds in lithofacies is dependent on porosity and permeability with input *** to the final model,cross-bedding sandstone(CBS),hummocky cross-stratified sandstone(HCSS)and trough cross-bedding sandstone(TCBS)show good reservoir quality due to high porosity ranging from:25.6%to 20.4%and,19.3%-14.5%,and permeability ranging from:74.03 mD to 66.84 mD and,64.86 mD to 21.01 *** contrast,massive to weak laminae sandstone(MWLS)and bioturbated sandstone(BS)show fair to poor reservoir quality,caused baffling of surrounding mud sediments in the reservoir *** also revealed that Li DAR based VOM with petrophysical properties can significantly reduce the risk and minimize the cost of reservoir modeling in petroleum industry.

Title compounds 2′,2′-dimethylcholesta-2,4-dien[3,2-b]-pyran-4′-one （3）, 2′,2′-dimethyl-3β-substituted cholesta-4,6-dien[7,6- b]-pyran-4′-one （6a,b） and （6c） were prepared by the cyclization of 2-acetylcholesta-2,4-dien-3-ol （2）, 6-acetyl-3β-substituted- cholesta-4,6-dien-7-ol （Sa,b） and （5c） respectively, with pyrrolidine, dry benzene and dry acetone using Dean Stark separator through conventional heating. Furthermore, compounds were also found to be active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
