A seed blend refuge has been implemented in the *** Belt for Bt maize resistance *** fall armyworm,Sp.d.ptera frugiperda(***),is a target pest of Bt maize in the *** larvae of this pest are mobile,which may affect the efficacy of seed blend *** this study,field and greenhouse trials were conducted to determine the performance of Bt-susceptible(aabb)and-heterozygous dual-gene-resistant(AaBb)genotypes of *** in seed blends of non-Bt and pyramided Bt *** field trials evaluated larval survival,larval growth,and plant injury with aabb in seed blends of Bt maize expressing Cry1A.105/Cry2Ab2/Vip3A with 0–30%non-Bt *** tests investigated the performance of aabb and AaBb in seed blends of Cry1A.105/Cry2Ab2 with 0–30% non-Bt *** pure non-Bt maize plots,after 9–13 d of neonates being released on the plants,0.39 and 0.65 larvae/plant survived with leaf injury ratings of 4.7 and 5.9(davis's 1–9 scale)in the field and greenhouse,*** contrast,live larvae and plant injury were virtually not observed on Bt plants across all planting *** occurrence and plant injury by aabb on non-Bt plants were similar between seed blends and pure non-Bt plantings,suggesting that the blended refuges could provide an equivalent susceptible population as structured refuge under the test *** the greenhouse,the two insect genotypes in seed blends performed similarly,indicating that the seed blends did not provide more favorable conditions for AaBb over *** information generated from this study should be useful in managing *** and evaluating if send blends could be suitable refuge options for Bt resistance management in the regions where the insect is a primary target pest.

Three-dimensional Morphometric Analyses of Hominoid Lower Molars from Yuanmou in Yunnan province,China

Analysis of 3d measurements of 13 landmarks on 72 Yuanmou Hominoid lower molars and some comparative samples, using Euclidean distance Matrix Analysis (EdMA), show that the 3d morphometric features of Yuanmou Homi noid lower molars largely resemble those of Lufengpithecus. Compared with extant great apes and humans, both Yuanmou Hominoid and Lufengpithecus differ markedly from humans, whereas they show much resemblance to apes. The two Chinese hominoids and extant great apes are different from humans in many of the same ways. Moreover, 3d morphometric features of Yuanmou Hominoid lower molars differ from those of each of the three extant great apes in similar ways. Of the three, the orangutan is the closest match to Yuanmou Hominoid in tooth morphology. However, the exact implications of these similarities and differences remain to be determined.

Fatty liver in H63d homozygotes with hyperferritinemia

To study the clinical correlates of the H63d mu-tation we have analysed the phenotype of H63d homozygotes identified through mutation analysis in a referral laboratory. A total of 366 blood samples referred for lIFE analysis were screened for C282Y and H63d mutations. Four H63d homozygotes were identified. All had raised serum ferritin but normal transferrin saturation. They were negative for hepatitis B and C and only one patient consumed excess alcohol. In all 4 cases ultrasonography revealed fatty liver. In two patients a liver biopsy was done and showed mild siderosis with an unusual distribution and macrovesicular steatosis. These data confirm the association between fatty liver, hyperferritinaemia and increased hepatic iron, but do not clarify whether siderosis was related to steatosis rather than homozygosity for the H63d mutation. patients with fatty liver may complicate the interpretation of data in population studies of the expression of H63d homozygosity.

Implementation of Gas Control Algorithm in EASTpCS

In this paper, gas control on EAST in open and closed loop is discussed and its implementation into EASTpCS （plasma control system for the experimental advanced supercon- ducting tokamak） is introduced. Using a model to describe the plasma density response to the gas puff command, a gas simulation server （simserver） using MATLAB simulink tools and real time workshop was built up. proper operation of the gas control algorithm was verified using this simserver. The simulation results suggested that the gas control can be applied in the next EAST campaign.

In the U.S.,Helicoverpa zea(Boddie)is a major pest targeted by both transgenic maize and cotton expressing Bacillus thuringiensis(Bt)*** of insect to Bt maize and cotton containing cry1A and cry2A genes has widely occurred in the *** this study,two trials were performed to investigate larval survival and development of a Cry1A.105/Cry2Ab2 dual-protein resistant(VT2p-RR),a susceptible,and an F1 heterozygous(VT2p-RS)populations of *** on ears of nine Bt and three non-Bt maize *** Bt maize hybrids evaluated represent five common pyramided traits expressing two or three of the Cry1A.105,Cry1Ab,Cry1F,Cry2Ab2,and Vip3Aa20 *** the laboratory,neonates of the three *** populations were inoculated on silks of ears collected from maize at R1-R2 plant stages;and larval survivorship was checked 10 d after neonate *** three insect populations survived normally on non-Bt maize *** numbers of VT2p-RR and VT2p-RS survived on ears of Cry1A.105/Cry2Ab2 maize,while all larvae of the three populations died or could not develop on ears of Vip3Aa20-expressing *** results demonstrated that the dual-protein resistant *** was not cross-resistant to Vip3Aa20-expressing maize,and thus traits with vip3Aa20 gene should be effective to manage Cry1A.105/Cry2Ab2-resistant *** resistance in VT2p-RR was determined to be incomplete on Cry1A.105/Cry2Ab2 *** effective dominance levels varied greatly,from recessive to incompletely dominant,depending on maize hybrids and trials,suggesting that proper selection of maize hybrids could be important for mitigating the Cry1A.105/Cry2Ab2 *** data generated should aid in modeling multiple-protein Bt resistance in ***.

We investigate high-modulus degradable materials intended to replace metals in biomedical *** are typically composites comprising a polylactide(pLA)matrix reinforced with phosphate glass fibres,which provide reinforcement similar to E-glass but are entirely degradable in water to produce,principally,calcium *** have made composites using a variety of fibre architectures,from non-woven random mats to unidirectional fibre *** properties in the region of 30 Gpa modulus and 350 Mpa strength have been achieved-directly comparable to quoted values for human cortical *** collaboration with other groups we have begun to consider the development of foamed systems with structures mimicking cancellous bone and this has shown significant *** fibres in these foamed structures provide improved creep resistance and reinforcement of the pore *** date the materials have exhibited excellent cellular responses in vitro and further studies are due to include consideration of the surface character of the materials and the influence of this on cell interaction, both with the composites and the glass fibres themselves,which show promise as a standalone porous scaffold.

Screening of Rice Cultivars for Morpho-physiological Responses to Early-Season Soil Moisture Stress

The majority of rice(Oryza sativa L.) produced in the southern USA is drill-seeded and grown under upland-like conditions because permanent flooding is established after the four-leaf stage. Therefore, rice during the seedling growth stage will be subjected to variable soil moisture content. A greenhouse experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance of 15 rice cultivars commonly grown in Mississippi of USA under early-season soil moisture stress. Twenty morpho-physiological parameters of rice seedlings subjected to three different levels(100%, 66% and 33% field capacity) of soil moisture, from 10 to 30 d after sowing, were measured. Significant moisture stress × treatment interaction(p d for most of the parameters. Further, the total drought response index(TdRI) was develop.d.to score the cultivars for drought tolerance with the variation from 26.88 to 36.21. Accordingly, the cultivars were classified into different groups of tolerance. The cultivars CL152 and CL142-AR were classified as the least and the most tolerant to drought based on TdRI and standard deviation, respectively. Even though both total root(R^2 = 0.98) or shoot(R^2 = 0.76) drought responses indices were positively correlated with TdRI, root traits were important in deriving the indices. Therefore, TdRI could be used to select cultivars for drought tolerance in a given environment and develop rice varieties with early-season drought tolerance. However, further research is needed to identify and characterize tolerance at other stages to assist breeding programs in rice.
