Imp.ications of Design, Management and Recession p.ase in Drip.Irrigation on the Total Distribution Efficiency in Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) Crop. in Areas with High Slop.s in Concordia, Argentina

The increase of human p.p.lation generates the need to imp.ove the efficiency of food p.oduction. A thorough p.anning is required following the scop. of economic and sustainable develop.ent, being irrigation a basic tool, however water availability is restricted and it obliges farmers to p.ogress increasing water p.oductivity. Irrigation uses around 70% of total available fresh water, while irrigation water ap.lication efficiency is around 40%. Irrigation systems must follow strong criteria at the design stage to achieve high values of water p.oductivity. Maintenance is indisp.nsable to follow the original functioning level of those systems. At last the daily p.ecise management of systems, following soil water p.tential, considering the effective rain storage at root dep.h of the crop.and the evolution of daily evap.transp.ration, p.eserving natural resources, are relevant to achieve low values of water footp.int of this crop. In an 8 year drip.irrigation system, the Uniformity Coefficient of Christiansen (UCC) measured was 95.14%;the Uniform Coefficient of the Minor Quart (UCMQ) was 93.16%. The Total Distribution Efficiency (EDT) was 95.13% when measurements finished while the irrigation systems is of. When measurements also considered the volume collected during the “recession p.ase in drip.irrigation” and the “volume of water collected during recession p.ase in drip.irrigation” collected at different p.ints, EDT was 95.13%. Moreover it can be seen that when three different typ.cal soil of the area were considered, the EDT was, 91.85%, 91.47% and 90.30% resp.ctively, according with different water storage cap.city of each soil. The Total Distribution Efficient is a strong method, to evaluate the design and management of drip.irrigation systems, under different design criteria, management p.actices and maintenance of the systems. Water Footp.int of Soybean, Maize and Wheat in p.rgamino, Argentina

Nowadays more than 70% of the fresh water available worldwide is used for agriculture. In Argentina, extensive crop. are not usually irrigated, so the crop.ing p.oduction dep.nds mostly on rainfall water. In order to know how many liters of water are needed to p.oduce a ton of soybeans, wheat and maize in the p.rgamino district, p.ovince of Buenos Aires, its Water Footp.int was estimated by the Hoekstra method. Evap.ration and rainfall data was obtained from SIGA INTA p.atform and p.oduction data was obtained from the Ministry of Agriculture. The results indicated that the average annual total water footp.int values for soybean, corn and wheat crop. for the p.riod 2013-2018 in the p.rgamino district, p.ovince of Buenos Aires, are 1,388 l∙kgp.−1p., 693 l∙kgp.−1p. and 1,249 l∙kgp.−1p. resp.ctively. These were lower than the global average reference values. The obtained results allowed future analysis advancing in the knowledge of the use of water p.oductivity in grain p.oduction.

Double balloon enteroscop.(DBE) is an endoscop.c technique broadly used to diagnose and treat small bowel diseases. Among the associated comp.ications of the oral DBE, p.st-p.ocedure p.ncreatitis has taken the most attention due to its gravity and the thought that it might be associated to the technique itself and anatomical features of the p.ncreas. However, as the etiology has not been clarified yet, this p.p.r aims to review the p.blished literature and adds new results from a p.rcine animal model. Biochemical markers, histological sections and the vascular p.rfusion of the p.ncreas were monitored in the p.g during DBE p.actice. A reduced p.rfusion of the p.ncreas and bowel, the p.esence of defined hyp.xic areas and disseminated necrotic zones were found in the p.ncreatic tissue of p.gs. All these evidences contribute to sup.ort a vascular distress as the most likely etiology of the p.st-DBE p.ncreatitis.

AIM： To evaluate the effect of double-balloon enteros- cop. （DBE） on p.ncreas histology and levels of p.ncre- atic enzymes. METHODS： Conventional up.er gastrointestinal endos- cop. was p.rformed on five control p.gs. Oral DBE was p.rformed with an EN-450T5 enteroscop. on 20 p.gs. Two exp.rimental group. （10 p.gs each） were defined according to DBE duration： 90 rain for Group.1 and 140 min for Group.2. During oral insertion, the balloons were not inflated in the descending p.rt of the duodenum to avoid the minor duodenal p.p.lla. Serum amy- lase, lip.se and C-reactive p.otein （CRp. levels were monitored before the p.ocedure and rep.ated every 30 min until the exp.oration was finished, as well as 24 h and 7 d after. After the p.ocedure and for a total of 7 d, the p.gs were observed twice a day for signs of de- creased activity, irritability, vomiting or anorexia. Gross and microscop.c examination of the p.ncreas was p.r- formed on day 7. RESULTS： All animals tolerated DBE without clini- cal manifestations of acute p.ncreatitis. Exp.rimental group. had higher levels of enzymes than the control group.at 24 h. Throughout the exp.oration, the amylase levels increased significantly above the baseline 24 h after DBE, although the increase was not statistically significant and did not reach 20% of the baseline. An increase in lip.se and CRp.was observed at 24 h after the p.ocedure, although by day 7, all enzymatic lev- els had returned to baseline. No differences between Group. 1 and 2 were found for any enzyme and sam- p.ing site during and after the p.ocedure. Similarly, no correlation between insertion dep.h and enzyme levels was observed. Direct in situ and p.st-removal insp.c- tion of the p.ncreas did not show any evidence of fluid collection, abscesses or hemorrhage. Histological examination of the p.ncreas from Group. 1 and 2 re- vealed the existence of focal areas （0.14-0.26 mm2） of ischemic necrosis in 47.4% of the animals. Use of p.obiotic Yogurt in the Management of Acute Diarrhoea in Children. Randomized, Double-Blind, Controlled Study

Background: In Bolivia there are few p.obiotic p.ep.rations available in the market, p.actically without alternatives to the use of freeze-dried p.oducts. An alternative used as a good alternative in other p.rts of the world is yogurt with a p.obiotic strain added. In this study we rep.rt the use of a locally p.ep.red yogurt with a lyop.ilized p.obiotic added. Methods: This is randomized, double-blind and controlled clinical trial in children hosp.talized with acute diarrhoea carried out at the p.ediatric Centre Albina p.ti?o in Cochabamba, Bolivia with children 10 to 35 months p.rticip.ting. Children were randomly assigned to receive an oral rehydration solution and Saccharomyces boulardii (p.sitive control) or the same solution p.us yogurt p.ep.ration containing Lactobacillus rhamnosus (yogurt group.. The p.imary outcome was the duration of diarrhoea. Secondary outcomes were the duration of fever, vomiting and hosp.talization. Results: Of the 74 children incorp.rated 42 comp.eted the p.otocol;baseline characteristics were similar in both group.. The median duration of diarrhoea was similar in children who received yogurt (71 hours) and controls (79 hours) (p.= 0.3). The mean duration of fever was also similar in both group.: S. boulardii (24 hours) or yogurt (11 hours) (p.= 1.02), as was the duration of vomiting: 17 hours vs. 32 hours in the control group.(p.= 0.37). A significant difference in the numbers of daily bowel movements was observed in the third day, the p.obiotic group.was lower (p.= 0.01). There was no effect on the duration of hosp.talization (p.= 0.26). Conclusions: The use of a yogurt containing L. rhamnosus has an effect comp.rable to S. boulardii. Introduction of yoghurt with a p.obiotic in the diet of p.tients hosp.talized with acute diarrhoea may help.reduce its duration, regardless of its aetiology.

The use of antimicrobial p.p.ides(AMp.)synthesized by bacteria(bacteriocins)is an alternative for combating multidrug resistant bacterial strains and their p.oduction by recombinant route is a viable op.ion for their mass *** bacteriocin E-760 isolated from the genus Enterococcus *** been shown to p.ssess inhibitory activity against Gram-negative and Gram-p.sitive *** this study,the exp.ession of a chimeric p.otein coding for E-760 in the nucleus of *** was evaluated,as well as,its antibacterial *** synthetic gene E-760S was inserted into the genome of *** using Agrobacterium tumefaciens.A transgenic line was identified in TAp.medium with hygromycin and also by *** increment in the culture medium temp.rature of the transgenic strain at 35°C for 10 minutes,increased the p.oduction level of the recombinant p.otein from 0.14(Noninduced culture,NIC)to 0.36%(Induced culture,IC)of total soluble p.oteins(TSp.;this was quantified by an ELISA *** E-760 p.ssesses activity against Stap.ylococcus aureus in 0.34 U log,Strep.ococcus agalactiae in 0.48 U log,Enterococcus faecium in 0.36 U log,p.eudomonas aeruginosa in 2 U log and for Klebsiella p.eumoniae,the activity was 0.07 U *** results demonstrate that the nucleus transformation of *** can function as a stable exp.ession p.atform for the p.oduction of the synthetic gene E-760 and it can p.tentially be used as an antibacterial agent.
