Hep.tocellular Carcinoma Incidence and Mortality in the USA by Sex, Age, and Race: A Nationwide Analysis of Two Decades

Background and Aims:While the incidence rates of hep.-tocellular carcinoma(HCC)are increasing,there are limited comp.ehensive data on demograp.ic-sp.cific incidence and mortality trends in the *** aimed to evaluate recent trends in HCC incidence and mortality among different de-mograp.ic group. in the ***:Age-adjusted HCC incidence rates were calculated from the Centers for Disease Control's United States Cancer Statistics database,which combines incidence data on newly diagnosed cancer cases and covers ap.roximately 98%of the p.p.lation in the ***,age-adjusted HCC mortality rates were obtained from the Centers for Disease Control's National Center for Health Statistics database,which offers comp.ehensive Cov-erage sp.nning nearly 100%of deaths attributed to HCC in the *** were stratified by sex,age(older[≥55 years]and younger[p.nic White,Non-Hisp.nic Black,Hisp.nic,Non-Hisp.nic Asian/p.cific Islander,and Non-Hisp.nic American Indian/Alaska Native),and tumor stage at diagnosis(early and late).Annual and average annual p.rcentage change(AAp.)were calculated using joinp.int regression.A sex-sp.cific p.irwise comp.rison was ***:Between 2001 and 2020,there were 467,346 p.tients diagnosed with HCC(26.0%women),with increasing incidence in both sexes without significant difference(p.0.65).In younger adults(78,169 p.tients),the incidence decreased in men but not in women(AAp. difference=-2.39,p.0.002).This was seen in various racial and ethnic group.,mostly driven by early-stage tumors(AAp. difference=-2.65,p.0.02).There were 329,973 deaths attributed to HCC between 2000 and 2020(28.4%women).In younger adults(43,093 deaths),mortal-ity decreased in men at a greater rate than in women(AAp. difference=1.61,p.0.007).This was seen in various racial and ethnic group.,most notably in non-Hisp.nic American Indian/Alaska Natives(AAp. difference=-4.51,p.0.01).Conclusions:Nationwide USA data,coveri

Objective. To evaluate our clinical p.actice for Group.B strep.ococcus (GBS) screening during p.egnancy and antibiotic therap. during delivery, Material and methods. We p.rformed a retrosp.ctive evaluation of our SBS screening p.otocol, by vaginal swab, for a p.riod of two years, including 1,674 asymp.otic p.tients. Intrap.rtum antibiotic p.op.ylaxis was administrated for GBS-p.sitive women. Results. The rate of GBS carriage was 6.9% . Antibiotics were administrated for 79,3% p.tients with GBS-p.sitive culture. Of these women only 39% had an interval greater than four hours between antibiotic injection and delivery. In the group.of p.tients with p.sitive GBS culture, no newborn was infected and only 5% were colonised. In the GBS-negative group.with 1.3% of the newborns were GBS p.sitive. Conclusion. We were surp.ised by our low rate of GBS carriage and the non op.imal ap.lication of antibiotics during labor. We reviewed our results with all our team and a p.osp.ctive evaluation has been initiated.

p.rous titanium granules in critical size defects of rabbit tibia with or without membranes

Recently, p.rous titanium granules （p.Gs） have been indicated for the p.eservation of the dimensions of p.st-extraction sockets, as a filler in sinus lift p.ocedures and for the treatment of p.ri-imp.ant and p.riodontal defects, based on the osteoconductivity and dimensional stability of the titanium granules. However, there is a lack of information regarding the use of this material in larger defects and in conjunction with membranes. The objective of this study is to test the behavior of p.Gs used to fill critical size defects in rabbit tibiae, with and without membranes. Critical defects were created in both tibiae of rabbits, divided randomly into three group.： Group.A （defect filled with p.G）, Group.B （defect filled with p.G＋collagen membrane） and a control group.（emp.y defect）. After six weeks, histomorp.ometric analysis was p.rformed. The results showed more defect closures at the cortical area （87.37%±2.2%） and more bone formation at the marrow area （57.6%± 1.3%） in Group.B, in comp.rison with the other group. （p.0.05）; the use of membranes imp.oved the material stability exp.essed as more p.rcentages of the original material when membranes were used （p.0.05）. Finally, inflammatory reactions were observed when the granules were not p.otected by membranes. In sp.te of the limitations of this animal study, it may be concluded that p.G p.rticles are osteoconductive and allow bone growth. The p.G p.rticles must be covered by a membrane, esp.cially when grafting larger defects, in order to control p.rticle migration, p.omote clot stabilization and sep.rate the p.G graft from undesired soft tissue cells.

Hematocrit level correlates with lungs resistivity in elderly p.tients with cardiogenic p.lmonary edema

Regular monitoring of p.lmonary congestion in car-diogenic p.lmonary edema (Cp.) p.tients is neces-sary for its adequate management via p.armaceuti-cal treatment. It is well known that the develop.ent of Cp. is accomp.nied with an increase in hema-tocrit, p.asma p.otein concentration and colloid os-motic p.essure due to the decrease in the p.asma volume. In the p.esent study the mean left and right lung resistivity values taken p.e- and p.st treatment with diuretics using a hybrid bio-imp.dance electri-cal imp.dance tomograp.y system were correlate to the measured changes in hematocrit level. A marginal significant correlation was found between the abso-lute mean lung resistivity and hematocrit levels (p.arson’s correlation coefficient of R = 0.4, p.value = 0.057). When the change in the mean lung resistivity of a p.tient was p.otted vs. the change in hematocrit readout, a significant linear correlation was found (R = 0.7, p.value = 0.02). These results sup.ort the validity of the resistivity measurements using bio-imp.dance system in monitoring changes of p.lmonary edema in Cp. p.tients.

Long term outcome and quality of life after p.lvic exenteration for recurrent endometrial and cervical cancers

Introduction: p.lvic exenteration can cure recurrent gynecological malignancies. However, treatment morbidity is over 50% in radiated p.lves. We evaluated the outcome, the morbidity and the quality of life after exenteration. Methods: p.tients who underwent an exenteration for recurrent cervical or endometrial cancer in our institution between 1999 and 2011 were retrieved. Survival rates were calculated according to Kap.an-Meier method and comp.red using the logrank test. The EORTC QLQ-C30 and QLQ-CX24 questionnaires were sent to p.tients alive in January 2012. Results: We identified 25 p.tients: 17 (68%) had cervical cancer and 8 (32%) endometrial cancer. 92% of them had received radiotherap. p.eviously. All p.tients had a central p.lvic recurrence, within a median time of 30 months [4 - 384] from initial treatment. Early comp.ications requiring a re-lap.rotomy occurred in 9 p.tients (36%). Late comp.ications included 2 (8%) fistulas, 2 (8%) occlusion and 1 (4%) ureteral stenosis. Comp.ete resection was obtained in 92% of p.tients. Disease Free and Overall survival rates were better in cervical rather than in endometrial cancer (median DFS in months 17 [2 - 145] vs 9.5 [3 - 21], p.= 0.064, median OS in months 20 [2 - 145] vs 13 [4 - 42], p.= 0.019). 69% of p.tients answered the quality of life questionnaires. Mean global quality of life score was 45 on a scale of 0 - 100, none of the p.tients had a sexual activity. Conclusions: Morbidity of exenteration remains high and quality of life is altered. Endometrial cancer is associated with a p.orer p.ognosis. In those p.tients, exenteration should be p.t in balance with best sup.ortive care.
