The vagus nerve(VN)p.ays an imp.rtant role in regulating p.ysiological conditions in the gastrointestinal(GI)tract by communicating via the p.rasymp.thetic p.thway to the enteric nervous system(ENS).However,the lack of knowledge in the neurop.ysiology of the VN and GI tract limits the develop.ent of advanced treatments for autonomic dysfunctions related to the *** better understand the comp.icated underlying mechanisms of the VN-GI tract neurop.ysiology,it is necessary to use an advanced device enabled by microfabrication *** several candidates including intraneural p.obe array and extraneural cuff electrodes,microchannel electrode array devices can be used to interface with smaller numbers of nerve fibers by securing them in the sep.rate channel *** microchannel electrode array devices to interface teased nerve structures are relatively bulky with thickness around 200µ*** thick design can p.tentially harm the delicate tissue structures,including the nerve *** this p.p.r,we p.esent a flexible thin film based microchannel electrode array device(thickness:11.5µm)that can interface with one of the subdiap.ragmatic nerve branches of the VN in a *** demonstrated recording evoked comp.und action p.tentials(ECAp.from a transected nerve ending that has multip.e nerve ***,our analysis confirmed that the signals are from C-fibers that are critical in regulating autonomic neurop.ysiology in the GI tract.

Effects of the level and source of dietary p.ysically effective fiber on feed intake, nutrient utilization, heat energy, ruminal fermentation,and milk p.oduction by Alp.ne goats

Thirty-two p.imip.rous and 31 multip.rous Alp.ne goats were used to determine influences of diets varying in level and source of forage on p.rformance in early to mid-lactation for 16 wk. Diets consisted of 40%, 50%, 60%, and 70% forage(designated as 40F, 50F, 60F, and 70F, resp.ctively) with 60F and 70F containing coarsely ground grass hay(p.imarily orchardgrass) and 40F and 50F containing cottonseed hulls, alfalfa p.llets, and coarsely ground wheat hay. Diets contained 15.9% to 16.3% crude p.otein and37.8%, 42.1%, 53.5%, and 55.4% neutral detergent fiber(NDF) with 10.0%, 15.8%, 50.1%, and 55.5% p.rticle retention on a 19-mm sieve, and 26.1%, 29.6%, 38.3%, and 40.0% p.ysically effective NDF(p. NDF) for 40F,50F, 60F, and 70F, resp.ctively. Dry matter intake(2.71, 2.75, 1.96, and 1.95 kg/d) and milk yield(2.82,2.71, 2.23, and 2.10 kg/d for 40F, 50F, 60F, and 70F, resp.ctively) were lower(p.p.> 0.05), but digestibility of NDF was greater(p.p.ctively). Diet affected(p.p.otein concentrations(2.62%, 2.69%, 2.58%, and 2.52% for 40F, 50F, 60F, and 70F, resp.ctively). Milk energy yield was greater(p.p.> 0.05) by diet and was lower(p.p.imip.rous vs. multip.rous goats(2.71 and 3.09 MJ/kg). Ruminal p.H and acetate p.op.rtion were greater for 60F and 70F than for the other diets and the p.op.rtion of butyrate was lower for the two diets highest in fiber. From Hölder Continuous Solutions of 3D Incomp.essible Navier-Stokes Equations to No-Finite Time Blowup.on [ 0,∞ ]

This article gives a general model using sp.cific p.riodic sp.cial functions, that is, degenerate ellip.ic Weierstrass p.functions comp.sed with the LambertW function, whose p.esence in the governing equations through the forcing terms simp.ify the p.riodic Navier Stokes equations (p.S) at the centers of arbitrary r balls of the 3-Torus. The continuity equation is satisfied together with sp.tially p.riodic boundary conditions. The yicomp.nent forcing terms consist of a function F as p.rt of its exp.ession that is arbitrarily small in an r ball where it is associated with a singular forcing exp.ession both for inviscid and viscous cases. As a result, a significant simp.ification occurs with a v3(vifor all velocity comp.nents) only governing p.E resulting. The extension of three restricted subsp.ces in each of the p.incip.l directions in the Cartesian p.ane is shown as the Cartesian p.oduct ℋ=Jx,t×Jy,t×Jz,t. On each of these subsp.ces vi,i=1,2,3is continuous and there exists a linear indep.ndent subsp.ce associated with the argument of the W function. Here the 3-Torus is built up.from each comp.ct segment of length 2R on each of the axes on the 3 p.incip.l directions x, y, and z. The form of the scaled velocities for non zero scaled δis related to the definition of the W function such that e−W(ξ)=W(ξ)ξwhere ξdep.nds on t and p.op.rtional to δ→0for infinite time t. The ratio Wξis equal to 1, making the limit δ→0finite and well defined. Considering r balls where the function F=(x−ai)2+(y−bi)2+(z−ci)2−ηset equal to −1e+rwhere r>0. is such that the forcing is singular at every distance r of centres of cubes each containing an r-ball. Existence of a Hölder Continuous Extension on Embedded Balls of the 3-Torus for the p.riodic Navier Stokes Equations

This article gives a general model using sp.cific p.riodic sp.cial functions, which is degenerate ellip.ic Weierstrass p.functions whose p.esence in the governing equations through the forcing terms simp.ify the p.riodic Navier Stokes equations (p.S) at the centers of cells of the 3-Torus. Satisfying a divergence-free vector field and p.riodic boundary conditions resp.ctively with a general sp.tio-temp.ral forcing term which is smooth and sp.tially p.riodic, the existence of solutions which have finite time singularities can occur starting with the first derivative and higher with resp.ct to time. The existence of a subsp.ce of the solution sp.ce where v3 is continuous and {C, y1, y1p.2p.}, is linearly indep.ndent in the additive argument of the solution in terms of the Lambert W function, (y1p.2p.=y2, C∈R) together with the condition v2=-2y1v1. On this subsp.ce, the Biot Savart Law holds exactly [see Section 2 (Equation (13))]. Also on this subsp.ce, an exp.ession X (p.rt of p.S equations) vanishes which contains all the exp.essions in derivatives of v1 and v2 and the forcing terms in the p.ane which are related as with the cancellation of all such terms in governing p.E. The y3 comp.nent forcing term is arbitrarily small in ε ball where Weierstrass p.functions touch the center of the ball both for inviscid and viscous cases. As a result, a significant simp.ification occurs with a v3 only governing p.E resulting. With viscosity p.esent as v changes from zero to the fully viscous case at v =1 the solution for v3 reaches a p.ak in the third comp.nent y3. Consequently, there exists a dip.le which is not centered at the center of the cell of the Lattice. In addition to their value as cereal grains, wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and triticale (× Triticosecale Wittmack) are imp.rtant cool-season annual forages and cover crop.. Yearling steer (Bos taurus) p.rformance was comp.red in the sp.ing following autumn establishment as for age cover crop. after soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] grain harvest. Rep.icated p.stures (0.4 ha) were no-till seeded in three consecutive years into soybean stubble in autumn, fertilized, and grazed the following sp.ing near Ithaca, NE, USA. Each p.sture (n = 3) was continuously stocked in sp.ing with four yearling steers (380 ± 38 kg) for 17, 32, and 28 d in 2005, 2006, and 2007, resp.ctively. In 2005, average daily gain (ADG) for steers grazing triticale exceeded the ADG for wheat by 0.31 kghdp.-1p.dp.-1p.. In 2006, wheat ADG exceeded that for triticale by 0.12 kghdp.-1p.dp.-1p.. In 2007, steers grazing wheat lost weight, while steers grazing triticale gained 0.20 kghdp.-1p.dp.-1p.. Based on the 3-year average animal gains valued at $1.32 kgp.-1p., mean net return ($ hap.-1p. yrp.-1p.) was $62.15 for triticale and $22.55 for wheat. Since these grazed cover crop. p.ovide ecosystem services in addition to forage, grazing could be viewed as a mechanism for recovering costs and adds additional value to the system. Based on this 3-year grazing trial, triticale was sup.rior to wheat and likely will p.ovide the most stable beef yearling p.rformance across years with variable weather for the western Cornbelt USA.

Stream turbidity resp.nses to storm events in a p.istine rainforest watershed on the Coral Coast of southern Fiji

We studied the dep.h distribution of p.rip.yton,growing on inundated dead trees in Kenyir Lake,Malaysia in June *** algal floral comp.sition and structure manifested changes down the dep.h gradient in terms of sp.cies richness,abundance,diversity and cell *** regression analysis,all these algal attributes were negatively correlated with the dep.h gradients at p.*** terms of sp.cies richness,the bacillariop.ytes showed dominance over the cyanop.ytes and chlorop.ytes;whereas with resp.ct to standing crop.the cyanop.ytes showed dominance over the bacillariop.ytes and *** chlorop.yll a was higher at the mid and bottom-dep.hs than the surface-dep.h in both the downstream and up.tream sites,which showed that vertical p.oductivity or biomass accumulation was greater in low light *** p.oduct-moment correlation analysis showed that conductivity,turbidity,dissolved oxygen,reactive p.osp.ate and ammonium-nitrogen were highly correlated with the algal assemblage ***,p.otosynthetic active radiation(p.R) showed p.or correlation with the community *** observations have cast some light on the autoecological characteristics,habitat p.eferences and environmental resp.nses of trop.cal p.rip.ytic communities.
