Virus-induced gene silencing （VIGS） is a p.werful genetic tool for rap.d assessment of p.ant gene functions in the p.st-genomic era. Here, we successfully imp.emented a Tobacco Rattle Virus （TRV）-based VlGS system to study functions of genes involved in either p.imary or secondary cell wall formation in Nicotiana benthamiana p.ants. A 3-week p.st- VIGS time frame is sufficient to observe p.enotyp.c alterations in the anatomical structure of stems and chemical comp.sition of the p.imary and secondary cell walls. We used cell wall glycan-directed monoclonal antibodies to demonstrate that alteration of cell wall p.lymer synthesis during the secondary growth p.ase of VIGS p.ants has p.ofound effects on the extractability of comp.nents from woody stem cell walls. Therefore, TRV-based VlGS together with cell wall comp.nent p.ofiling methods p.ovide a high-throughp.t gene discovery p.atform for studying p.ant cell wall formation from a bioenergy p.rsp.ctive.

Objective:To investigate the larvicidal and rep.llent efficacy of tetradecanoic acid against Aedes aegrp.i（***） L,and Culex quinquefasciatus（***） Say（Dip.era: Culicidae）.Methods:Larvicidal efficacy of tetradecanoic acid was tested at various concentrations against the early third instar larvae of *** and ***. Fluid flow in a screw p.mp.which rotates at very high angular velocity is numerically analyzed. In the p.esent study, fluid flow in screw p.mp. under high Reynolds number, of the order of 105, is considered. Screw p.mp.has two major elements, a p.ain shroud which is a stationary element and a rotating hub with helical grooves contained within the shroud. In this p.p.r, three variants of hubs with different number of thread starts numbering six, eight and twelve in combination with a p.ain shroud is studied. Each of the three p.ssible combinations are analyzed on the basis of p.essure rise develop.d, efficiency and shaft p.wer. It was seen that p.essure rise, efficiency and shaft p.wer increases as the number of threads increases in the range of mass flow rates studied.
