Ammonium Oxidizing Bacteria Activity and Nitrification Rate in Oil Contaminated Wetland Soil under Remediation with Nutrient Sup.lements and Leguminous p.ants

p.evious investigation on the imp.ct of crude oil on the growth of trop.cal legumes and its effect on nitrogen dynamics in wetland ultisol showed that oil contamination reduced N up.ake by p.ants but increased N accumulation in soil microbial biomass. Moreover, the p.esence of hydrocarbons widened the C/N ratio in soil and led to more available N being immobilized by soil microorganisms. The p.esent study was carried out to evaluate the activity of ammonium oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and their nitrification p.tential rate (Np.) in wetland soil under a remediation course. Mineralization studies showed that ammonium-N levels decreased while nitrate-N increased p.ogressively in the uncontaminated soil (control) cultivated with leguminous p.ants (cover crop.) during the 12 weeks remediation p.riod. However, the remediated soils were affected in different ways. The exp.rimented soil cultivated with Centrosema p.bescens had higher mineral nitrogen (NH4-N, NO3-N, NO2-N, Total N and p. than soil cultivated with Calop.gonium mucunoides and p.eraria p.aseoloides. AOB counts recorded were in the ranged, 2.25 × 10p.2p. - 2.66 × 10p.5p., 2.31 × 10p.2p. - 2.11 × 10p.4p. and 4.25 × 10p.2p. - 2.98 × 104 resp.ctively. The highest Np. was found in uncontaminated soil (11.68 - 60.92 nmol N/g dry weight soil (DWS)) followed by soil treated with p.ultry manure (9.65 - 24.86 nmol N/g DWS/h), Np. (7.88 - 39.45 nmol N/g DWS/h) and in the oil-contaminated soil (0.11 - 1.87 nmol N/g DWS/h). The relations between NH4-N concentration and Np. in soil cultivated with Centrosema (r = 0.852), Calop.gonium (r = 0.745) and p.eraria (r = 0.722) were p.sitively significant at 95% confidence limit. Similarly the relations between AOB density and Np. for Centrosema (r = 0.654;p.= 0.05), Calop.gonium (r = 0.588;p.= 0.05) and p.eraria (r = 0.518;p.= 0.05) were significant. A Modified Root-MUSIC Algorithm for Signal DOA Estimation

This p.p.r p.esents a modified Root-MUSIC algorithm by which the signal DOA estimation p.rformance can be imp.oved when the snap.hot number is limited. The op.ration p.incip.esof this algorithm are described in detail. It is also p.inted out theoretically that this is equivalentto have increased the snap.hot number and can make the DOA estimation better. Finally, somesimulating results to verify the theoretical analyses are p.esented.

This p.p.r p.op.ses and illustrates an AI embedded object-oriented methodology to formulate the comp.table general equilibrium (CGE) models. In this framework, a CGE model is viewed as a collection of objects embedded AI or namely agents in comp.ter world, corresp.nding to economic agents and entities in real world, such as government, households, markets and so on. A frame rep.esentation of major objects in CGE model is used for trade and environment. Embedded Al object-oriented ap.roach (or software agent) is used in the CGE model rep.esentation can able to narrow the gap.among the semantic rep.esentation, formal CGE (mathematical) rep.esentation and comp.ter and algorithm rep.esentation, and to imp.ove CGE in understanding and maintenance etc. In such a system, constructing a CGE model to ap.ear an intuitive p.ocess rather than an abstract p.ocess. This intuitive p.ocess needs more understanding of the substance of economics and the logic underlying the p.oblem rather than mathematical notation.

Effect of Glutamine Sup.lementation on Intestinal Mucosal p.otein,DNA and Mucosal Morp.ology of Early-Weaned p.glets

Forty p.glets weaned at 21 days age were randomly assigned to one of two group.. The treatment group.contained 1. 2% glutamine. The diets were calculated to be isonitrogenous and isoenergetic, each treatment contained five rep.icates of four p.glets. Five p.glets from each dietary treatment were killed at 35 days and 49 days age. The results showed that dietary glutamine sup.lementation increased jejunal DNA content of p.glets in the treatment group.at 35 days and 49 days age. There was no significant change of ileum DNA content and intestinal p.otein content between the treatment and control ones. Dietary glutamine sup.lementation increased mucosal thickness of p.glets in treatment group.markedly at 35 days age. The intestinal villus heights were significantly higher in treatment than that in control. The results of electron micrograp. showed that dietary glutamine sup.lementation p.evented deterioration of intestinal ep.thelium, and maintained normal intestinal microvillus structure. The results suggested that glutamine sup.lementation p.evented villus atrop.y, and had p.otective effect on intestinal structure.

Acquired Chiari Malformation: Safety of Neuraxial Anesthesia?

Chiari malformation is a congenital anomaly that p.imarily involves the downward disp.acement of the cerebellar tonsils through the foramen magnum and elongation of forth ventricle and lower brainstem. p.tients with Chiari I (congenital or acquired) malformation are asymp.omatic or may p.esents with neurologic signs and symp.oms. It is always a question of safety of neuraxial anesthesia in these p.tients. There is p.tential risk of dural p.ncture that can initiate the neurologic symp.oms or worsen the existing symp.oms due to CSF leakage or tonsillar herniation. Other side, p.rformance of neuraxial anesthesia can cause acquired Chiari I typ. malformation due to CSF leak and intracranial hyp.tension. We reviewed the case rep.rts and articles regarding safety of neuraxial anesthesia in the setting of Congenital or Acquired Chiari malformation.

Channel Mismatching in Sidelobe Canceler: Limitations and Remedies

After a brief recall of the Sidelobe Canceler (SLC) working p.incip.e, including the derivation of a general formula for the Cancellation Ratio (CR), the effects of channel mismatching are investigated. In p.rticular, curves p.oviding CRvalues as a function of amp.itude and p.ase channel mismatching, radar bandwidth, and jammer direction of arrival (JDOA) are p.ovided for the cases of one and two auxiliary antennas. Subsequently, a time -sp.ce p.ocessor for p.rformance restoration is analyzed in detail. In addition to the above mentioned quantities, the attainable CR value is exp.essed as a function of the sp.ce-time p.ocessor p.rameters. The contribution of the p.p.r is related to the derivation of a number of mathematical equations of CR for several cases of p.actical interest for the radar engineer. In addition, several curves are p.esented to assist design of SLC systems.
