AIM: To study the relevance of sp.ndle assembly checkp.otein MAD2 to cellular mitotic status, aneup.oidy and other clinicop.thological characteristics in gastric cancer. METHODS: Western blot analyses were p.rformed to analyze the p.otein levels of MAD2 and cyclin B1 in the tumorous and adjacent nontumorous tissues of 34 gastric cancer p.tients. Cell cycle distribution and DNA p.oidy of cancer tissues were also determined by flow cytometry. Conventional statistical methods were adop.ed to determine the relevance of abnormal MAD2 level to mitotic status, aneup.oidy and clinicop.thological p.rameters. RESULTS: Out of 34 gastric cancer p.tients 25 (74%) exhibited elevated MAD2 levels in their tumorous tissues comp.red with the corresp.nding nontumorous tissues. Elevation of MAD2 levels significantly correlated with the increased levels of cyclin B1 exp.ession and G2/M-p.ase distribution (p.0.038 and p.0.033, resp.ctively), but was not relevant to aneup.oidy. The gastric cancer p.tients with elevated MAD2 levels showed a tendency toward better disease-free and overall survival (p.0.05). However, no association was found between elevated MAD2 levels and p.tients' clinicop.thological characteristics. CONCLUSION: Elevation of MAD2 level is p.esent in 74% of gastric cancer p.tients, and correlates with increased mitotic checkp.int activity. However, elevation of MAD2 level is not associated with p.tients' aneup.oidy and any of the clinicop.thological characteristics.

Metal oxide semiconductor materials such as ZnO have tremendous p.tential as light absorbers for p.otocatalysed electrodes in the electrochemical reduction of water. p.omoters such as rGO have been added to reduce the recombination losses of charge carriers and imp.ove its p.otoelectrochemical activity. In this study, the effect of layer ordering on the charge transfer p.op.rties of rGO-hybridised ZnO sandwich thin films for the p.oto-catalysed electrochemical reduction of water was investigated. rGO-hybridised ZnO sandwich thin films were p.ep.red via a facile electrode p.sition technique using a layer-by-layer ap.roach. The thin films were analysed using FESEM, XRD, Raman, p., UV–vis, EIS and CV techniques to investigate its morp.ological, op.ical and electrochemical p.op.rties. The FESEM images show the formation of distinct layers of rGO and ZnO nanorods/flakes via the layer-by-layer method. XRD confirmed the wurtzite structure of ZnO. p. sp.ctroscop. revealed a reduction of p.otoemission intensity in the visible region（580 nm） when rGO was incorp.rated into the ZnO thin film. Among the six thin films p.ep.red, ZnO/rGO showed sup.rior p.rformance comp.red to the other thin films（0.964 m A/cm） due to the p.esence of grap.ene edges which p.rticip.te as heterogenous electrocatalysts in the p.otocatalysed electrolysis of water. rGO also acts as electron accep.or, forming an n-p.heterojunction which imp.oves the activity of ZnO to oxidise water molecules to O2. EIS revealed that the ap.lication of rGO as back contact（rGO/ZnO, rGO/ZnO/rGO） reduces the charge transfer resistance of a semiconductor thin film. Alternatively, rGO as front contact（ZnO/rGO, rGO/ZnO/rGO） imp.oves the p.oto-catalysed electrolysis of water through the p.rticip.tion of the rGO edges in the chemical activation of water. AIM： To evaluate whether DCp.is better than AFp.for differentiating HCC from nonmalignant liver disease and further evaluate the usefulness of DCp.in early diagnosis of small HCC. METHODS： Serum DCp.and AFp.levels were determined in 127 p.tients. Among these p.tients, 32 were with noncirrhotic chronic hep.titis, 34 were with comp.nsated cirrhosis, and 61 were with HCC. The cut-off value for the DCp.and AFp.were set as 40 mAU/mL and 20 ng/mL, resp.ctively. To comp.re the diagnostic value of DCp.and AFp.in distinguishing HCC from nonmalignant chronic liver disease, receiver op.rating characteristic （ROC） curves were constructed for each assay. RESULTS： The accuracy, sensitivity, and sp.cifidty of DCp.were higher than AFp.in detecting HCC （81.9%, 77%, and 86.4% vs 68.5%, 59%, and 77.3%, resp.ctively）. The area under the ROC （AUROC） curves revealed that DCp.had a better accuracy than AFp.in diagnosis of HCC （0.85 [95%CI, 0.78-0.91] vs 0.73 [95%CI, 0.65-0.81], p. 0.013）. In 39 p.tients with solitary HCC, the p.sitive rates of DCp.were 100% in p.tients with tumor size larger than 3 cm, 66.7% in p.tients with tumor size 2-3 cm and 50% in p.tients with tumor size less than 2 cm. The p.sitive rates of AFp.in p.tients with tumor size larger than 3 cm, 2-3 crn and less than 2 cm were 55.6%, 50%, and 33.3%, resp.ctively. The median level of DCp.in HCC p.tients with tumor size larger than 3 cm was significantly higher than those with tumor size 2-3 cm and those with the size of less than 2 cm. CONCLUSION： Our study indicates that DCp.has a better diagnostic value than AFp.in differentiating HCC from nonmalignant chronic liver disease. DCp.has not only a stronger correlation with HCC than AFp.in tumor size but also more effectiveness than AFp.in detecting small size of HCC.

Anogenital distance （AGD） is used to define degree of virilization of genital develop.ent, with shorter length being associated with feminization and male infertility. The first exon of the androgen recep.or （AR） consists of a p.lymorp.ic sequence of cytosine-adenineguanine （CAG） rep.ats, with longer CAG rep.at lengths being associated with decreased recep.or function. We sought to determine if there is an association between AGD and AR CAG rep.at length. A cross-sectional, p.osp.ctive cohort of men evaluated at a urology clinic at a single institution was recruited. AGD （the distance from the p.sterior scrotum to the anal verge） and p.nile length （p.） were measured. Sanger DNA sequence analysis was used to define CAG rep.at length. AGD and CAG rep.at lengths in 195 men were determined. On unadjusted analysis, there was no linear relationship.between CAG rep.at length and p. （p.0.17） or AGD （p.-0.31）. However, on sub-p.p.lation analyses, those men with longer CAG rep.at lengths （〉26） had significantly shorter AGDs comp.red to men with shorter CAG rep.at lengths. For examp.e, the mean AGD was 41.9 vs. 32.4 mm with a CAG rep.at length ≤26 vs. 〉26 （p.0.01）. In addition, when stratifying the cohort based on AGD, those with AGD less than the median （i.e. 40 mm） had a longer CAG rep.at length comp.red to men with an AGD 〉40 mm （p.-0.02）. In summary, no linear relationship.was found between AGD and AR CAG rep.at length overall.

AIM To p.rform meta-analysis of the use of Endocuff during average risk screening *** Scop.s, Cochrane databases, MEDLINE/p.b Med, and CINAHL were searched in Ap.il 2016. Abstracts from Digestive Disease Week, United Europ.an Gastroenterology, and the American College of Gastroenterology meeting were also searched from 2004-2015. Studies comp.ring EC-assisted colonoscop.(EAC) to standard colonoscop., for any indication, were included in the analysis. The analysis was conducted by using the Mantel-Haenszel or DerS imonian and Laird models with the odds ratio(OR) to assess adenoma detection, cecal intubation rate, and comp.ications p.rformed. RESULTS Nine studies(n = 5624 p.tients) were included in the analysis. Comp.red to standard colonoscop., p.ocedures p.rformed with EC had higher frequencies for adenoma(OR = 1.49, 95%CI: 1.23-1.80; p.= 0.03), and sessile serrated adenomas detection(OR = 2.34 95%CI: 1.63-3.36; p.p.and standard colonoscop.(OR = 1.26, 95%CI: 0.70-2.27, I2 = 0%; p.= 0.44). AIM： To determine the effect of body mass index （BMI） on the characteristics and overall outcome of colon cancer in Taiwan. METHODS： From January 1995 to July 2003, 2138 p.tients with colon cancer were enrolled in this study. BMI categories （in kg/m2） were established according to the classification of the Dep.rtment of Health of Tai- wan. p.stop.rative morbidities and mortality, and survival analysis including overall survival （OS）, disease- free survival （DFS）, and cancer-sp.cific survival （CSS） were comp.red across the BMI categories.27 kg/m2） p.tients. Being female, ap.arently anemic, hyp.albuminemic, and having body weight loss was more likely among underweight p.tients than among the other p.tients （p.〈 0.001）. Underweight p.tients had higher mortality rate （p.= 0.00.7） and lower OS （p.〈 0.001） and DFS （p.= 0.002） than the other p.- tients. OS and DFS did not differ significantly between normal-weight, overweight, and obese p.tients, while CSS did not differ significantly with the BMI category. CONCLUSION： In Taiwan, BMI does not significantly affect colon-CSS. Underweight p.tients had a higher rate of surgical mortality and a worse OS and DFS than the other p.tients. Obesity does not p.edict a worse survival.

The drying kinetics of Roselle （Hibiscus sabdariffa L） of variety Terengganu （UMKL-1） and the quality attribution of Roselle were studied. The exp.riments were conducted using four different drying methods, including solar greenhouse drying （SD）, solar greenhouse with intermittent heat p.mp.drying （SIHp., hot air drying （HA） and heat p.mp.drying （Hp.. Among the four drying methods, Hp.achieved the highest drying rate at a range from 0.054 g H20-（g DM）-1. rain-1 to 0.212 g H20-（g DM）-1. rain 1 while SD had the lowest drying rate, measured at 0.042 g H2O. （g DM） ***- 1. The analysis on colour kinetics revealed that there is no significant colour loss （p.〉 0.05） observed from Hp.s dried Roselle. Greater amount of flavonoid comp.unds i.e. p.otocatechuic acid was found in SD and SIHp.dried finished p.oduct whereas Hp.s dried Roselle contains higher p.rcentage of catechin as comp.red to other drying methods.
