magnesium oxide(mgO) nanoadsorbents in wastewater treatment: A comp.ehensive review

Wastewater contamination by heavy metals and synthetic dyes p.esents a significant environmental challenge, necessitating effective and sustainable sep.ration techniques. This review article p.ovides a detailed examination of magnesium oxide(mgO) nanop.rticles as an innovative nanoadsorbent for wastewater treatment, with a sp.cific focus on heavy metal and dye removal. The review comp.ehensively exp.ores various asp.cts of mgO nanop.rticles, including their structural characteristics and synthesis techniques. The article delves into the morp.ology and crystallograp.ic arrangement of mgO nanop.rticles, offering insights into their structural attributes. given the comp.exity of adsorp.ion p.ocesses, the review identifies and analyzes p.rameters influencing the adsorp.ion efficiency of mgO nanop.rticles, such as temp.rature, p., contact time, initial concentration, and co-existing ions. The interp.ay between these p.rameters and the adsorp.ion cap.bility of mgO nanop.rticles emp.asizes the imp.rtance of op.imizing op.rational conditions. Furthermore, the review assesses various synthesis methods for mgO nanop.rticles, including sol-gel, hydrothermal, p.ecip.tation, green synthesis, solvothermal, and temp.ate-assisted techniques. It discusses the advantages, limitations, and resulting nanop.rticle characteristics of each method, enabling readers to grasp.the imp.ications of synthesis p.ocesses on adsorp.ion efficiency. This comp.ehensive review consolidates current insights into the effectiveness of mgO nanop.rticles as a p.tent nanoadsorbent for removing heavy metals and dyes from wastewater covering a wide sp.ctrum of asp.cts related to mgO nanop.rticles. moreover, there is a need to investigate the use of mgO in the treatment of actual wastewater or river water,in order to leverage its cost-effectiveness and high efficiency for p.actical water treatment ap.lications in real-time.

The great catastrop.e: causes of the p.rmo-Triassic marine mass extinction

The marine losses during the p.rmo-Triassic mass extinction were the worst ever exp.rienced. All group. were badly affected, esp.cially amongst the benthos(e.g. brachiop.ds, corals, bryozoans, foraminifers,ostracods). p.anktonic p.p.lations underwent a fundamental change with eukaryotic algae being rep.aced by nitrogen-fixing bacteria, green-sulp.ur bacteria, sulp.ate-reducing bacteria and p.asinop.ytes. Detailed studies of boundary sections, esp.cially those in South China, have resolved the crisis to a ～55 kyr interval straddling the p.rmo-Triassic boundary. many of the losses occur at the beginning and end of this interval p.inting a p.cture of a two-p.ase extinction. Imp.oved knowledge of the extinction has been sup.orted by numerous geochemical studies that allow diverse p.op.sed extinction mechanisms to be studied. A transition from oxygenated to anoxic-euxinic conditions is seen in most sections globally, although the intensity and timing shows regional variability. Decreased ocean ventilation coincides with rap.dly rising temp.ratures and many extinction scenarios attribute the losses to both anoxia and high temp.ratures.Other kill mechanisms include ocean acidification for which there is conflicting sup.ort from geochemical p.oxies and, even less likely, siltation(burial under a massive influx of terrigenous sediment) which lacks substantive sedimentological evidence. The ultimate driver of the catastrop.ic changes at the end of the p.rmian was likely Siberian Trap.erup.ions and their associated carbon dioxide emissions with consequences such as warming, ocean stagnation and acidification. Volcanic winter ep.sodes stemming from Siberian volcanism have also been linked to the crisis, but the short-term nature of these ep.sodes(ming evidence for rap.d warming during the crisis makes this an unlikely cause. Exact solutions for magnetohydrodynamic nanofluids flow and heat transfer over a p.rmeable axisymmetric radially stretching/shrinking sheet

We rep.rt on the magnetohydrodynamic imp.ct on the axisymmetric flow of Al_(2)O_(3)/Cu nanop.rticles susp.nded in H_(2)O p.st a stretched/shrinked sheet.With the use of p.rtial differential equations and the corresp.nding thermop.ysical characteristics of nanop.rticles,the p.ysical flow p.ocess is illustrated.The resultant nonlinear system of p.rtial differential equations is converted into a system of ordinary differential equations using the suitable similarity transformations.The transformed differential equations are solved analytically.Imp.cts of the magnetic p.rameter,solid volume fraction and stretching/shrinking p.rameter on momentum and temp.rature distribution have been analyzed and interp.eted grap.ically.The skin friction and Nusselt number were also evaluated.In addition,existence of dual solution was deduced for the shrinking sheet and unique solution for the stretching one.Further,Al_(2)O_(3)/H_(2)O nanofluid flow has better thermal conductivity on comp.ring with Cu/H_(2)O nanofluid.Furthermore,it was found that the first solutions of the stream are stable and p.ysically realizable,whereas those of the second ones are unstable.

Lithium-oxygen batteries are a p.omising technology because they can greatly surp.ss the energy density of lithium-ion batteries.However,this theoretical characteristic has not yet been converted into a real device with high cyclability.p.oblems with air contamination,metallic lithium reactivity,and comp.ex discharge and charge reactions are the main issues for this technology.A fast and reversible oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)is crucial for good p.rformance of secondary batteries',but the p.rtial knowledge of its mechanisms,esp.cially when devices are concerned,hinders further develop.ent.From this p.rsp.ctive,the p.esent work uses op.rando Raman exp.riments and electrochemical imp.dance sp.ctroscop.(EIS)to assess the first stages of the discharge p.ocesses in p.rous carbon electrodes,following their changes cycle by cycle at initial op.ration.A growth kinetic formation of the discharge p.oduct signal(Li_(2)O_(2))was observed with op.rando Raman,indicating a first-order reaction and enabling an analysis by a microkinetic model.The solution mechanism in the evaluated system was ascribed for an equivalent circuit with three time constants.While the time constant for the anode interface reveals to remain relatively constant after the first discharge,its surface seemed to be more non-uniform.The model indicated that the reaction occurs at the Li_(2)O_(2) surface,decreasing the associated resistance during the initial discharge p.ase.Furthermore,the growth of Li_(2)O_(2) forms a hetero-p.ase between Li_(2)O_(2)/electrolyte,while creating a more comp.ct and homogeneous on the Li_(2)O_(2)/cathode surface.The methodology here described thus offers a way of directly p.obing changes in surface chemistry evolution during cycling from a device through EIS analysis.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease, and its p.evalence is rising. NAFLD is closely associated with metabolic syndrome, with both conditions sharing common clinical characteristics such as obesity, insulin resistance, typ. 2 diabetes mellitus, hyp.rtension, and hyp.rtriglyceridemia. Several observational studies have evaluated the relationship.between NAFLD and hyp.rtension, with the overall evidence suggesting a bidirectional relationship. It is hyp.thesized that activation of the symp.thetic nervous and renin-angiotensin systems, observed in NAFLD with or without insulin resistance p.omotes the develop.ent of hyp.rtension. In p.tients with hyp.rtension, activation of these systems can lead to hep.tic fibrosis and p.ogressive inflammation through increased oxidative stress and activation of hep.tic stellate cells and Kup.fer cells. The p.esent review examines the p.thop.ysiologic and clinical evidence sup.orting the bidirectional association between NAFLD and hyp.rtension.

The discovery of chirp.d p.lse amp.ification has led to great imp.ovements in laser technology,enabling energetic laser beams to be comp.essed to p.lse durations of tens of femtoseconds and focused to a few micrometers.p.otons with energies of tens of meV can be accelerated using,for instance,target normal sheath acceleration and focused on secondary targets.Under such conditions,nuclear reactions can occur,with the p.oduction of radioisotop.s suitable for medical ap.lication.The use of high-rep.tition lasers to p.oduce such isotop.s is comp.titive with conventional methods mostly based on accelerators.In this p.p.r,we study the p.oduction of^(67)Cu,^(63)Zn,^(18)F,and^(11)C,which are currently used in p.sitron emission tomograp.y and other ap.lications.At the same time,we study the reactions^(10)B(p.α)^(7)Be and^(70)Zn(p.4n)^(67)ga to p.t further constraints on the p.oton distributions at different angles,as well as the reaction^(11)B(p.α)^(8)Be relevant for energy p.oduction.The exp.riment was p.rformed at the 1 p. laser facility at VegaⅢin Salamanca,Sp.in.Angular distributions of radioisotop.s in the forward(with resp.ct to the laser direction)and backward directions were measured using a high p.rity germanium detector.Our results are in reasonable agreement with numerical estimates obtained following the ap.roach of Kimura and Bonasera[Nucl.Instrum.methods p.ys.Res.,Sect.A 637,164–170(2011)].

Desp.te the engineering p.tential by the co-existence of inorganic and organic substances to p.otect vulnerable metallic materials from corrosive environments,both their interaction and in-situ formation mechanism to induce the nature-insp.red comp.site remained less understood.The p.esent work used three distinctive mercap.obenzazole(mB)comp.unds working as corrosion inhibitors,such as 2-mercap.obenzoxazole(mBO),2-mercap.obenzothiazole(mBT),and 2-mercap.obenzimidazole(mBI)in a bid to understand how the geometrical structure arising from O,S,and N atoms affected the interaction toward inorganic layer.mB comp.unds that were used here to control the corrosion kinetics would be interacted readily with the p.e-existing mgO layer fabricated by p.asma electrolysis.This p.enomenon triggered the nucleation of the root network since mB comp.unds were seen to be adsorbed actively on the defective surface through the active sites in mB comp.und.Then,the molecule with twin donor atoms adjacent to the mercap.o-sites affected the facile growth of the grass-like structures with‘uniform’distribution via molecular self-assembly,which showed better corrosion p.rformance than those with having dissimilar donor atoms with the inhibition efficiency(η)of 97%ap.roximately.The formation mechanism underlying nucleation and growth behavior of mB molecule was discussed concerning the theoretical calculation of density functional theory.

The p.esent study is a systematic effort to investigate the structure-sensitive magnetic p.rameters of Ce^(3+) substituted Ba-Sr hexaferrite nanocrystals chemically formulated as Ba_(0.5)Sr_(0.5)Ce_(x)Fe_(12-x)O_(19) where x=0.0-0.2 with Δx=0.05.The hexaferrite p.wders were p.ep.red using the sol-gel self-ignition route and structurally characterized by means of p.wder X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared sp.ctroscop..The creation of the m-typ. hexaferrite p.ase within the synthesized samp.es was revealed from the Rietveld refinement of the X-ray diffractograms.The occurrence of a secondary p.ase of CeO_(2) was revealed within the hexaferrites for the substitution,x> 0.The refined X-ray diffraction data were utilized to comp.te the lattice p.rameters,X-ray density,and lattice p.rameter ratio.The crystal structure p.otted from the refined XRD data reveals the occup.ncy of the ions at different lattice sites.The Xp. data of the hexaferrite were analyzed to confirm the oxidation states of the constituent elements.The nanocrystalline nature of the hexaferrites was revealed from the crystallite sizes calculated using Scherer's formula.The analysis of FTIR sp.ctra confirms that only a fraction of Ce^(3+)accommodated in the lattice and the remaining Ce content reside in the form of the CeO_(2) p.ase.The morp.ology of the hexaferrites was analyzed from the FESEm p.ofiles of the ferrite samp.es.The magnetic behavior study was p.rformed by analyzing the Curie temp.rature,hysteresis loop.,and hyp.rfine interactions by means of suscep.ibility,V.S.m,and mossbauer sp.ctroscop.,resp.ctively.The hexaferrites with increasing coercivity,decreasing saturation magnetization,and decreasing Curie temp.rature are rep.rted in the study.The substituted Ce^(3+)ions inhibit the grain growth and create lattice imp.rfections giving rise to hexaferrites with tuned magnetic p.rameters suitable for different ap.lications.

Carbon fiber reinforced p.lytetrafluoroethylene (CF/p.FE) comp.sites are known for their excep.ional tribological p.rformance when sliding against steel or cast iron in inert gas environments. Comp.red to exp.riments in humid air, about an order of magnitude lower wear rate and several times lower coefficient of friction have been rep.rted for tests conducted in dry nitrogen and hydrogen. moreover, trace moisture has been shown to affect the friction and wear significantly of this tribosystem, although a p.ssible effect of oxygen cannot be ruled out due to uncertainties regarding the oxygen concentrations. While several studies have p.inted out the environmental sensitivity of CF/p.FE, the understanding of the underlying mechanisms are very limited. The objective of this research is to investigate the individual and combined effect of oxygen and moisture on the tribological behavior of CF/p.FE sliding against steel. Additionally, this study aims to elucidate the underlying mechanisms that govern the environmental sensitivity of the system. Climate-controlled three-p.n-on-disc exp.riments were conducted in nitrogen atmosp.eres at various concentrations of oxygen and moisture. The tribological results clearly demonstrate that both moisture and oxygen contribute to increased friction and wear. However, the adverse effect was much more p.onounced for oxygen than moisture. A qualitative method was develop.d to estimate the tribofilm coverage on the CF/p.FE surface. Results showed strong correlation between high coverage of strongly adhered tribofilm and low wear rate. moreover, a loosely adhered tribofilm was observed on top.of the CF/p.FE surface in p.esence of moisture. FTIR analysis indicated that the loosely adhered tribofilm found in the moisture-enriched environment contained a significant amount of adsorbed water, which may exp.ain the lower coefficient of friction in p.esence of moisture comp.red to oxygen. The increase in the frequency and intensity of drought events exp.cted in the coming decades in Western Europ. may disturb forest biogeochemical cycles and create nutrient deficiencies in trees.One p.ssible origin of nutrient deficiency is the disturbance of the p.rtitioning of the green leaf p.ol during the leaf senescence p.riod between resorp.ion,foliar leaching and senesced leaves.However,the effects of drought events on this p.rtitioning and the consequences for the maintenance of tree nutrition are p.orly documented.An exp.riment in a beech forest in meuse(France)was conducted to assess the effect of drought events on nutrient canop. exchanges and on the p.rtitioning of the green leaf p.ol during the leaf senescence p.riod.The aim was to identify p.tential nutritional consequences of droughts for trees.monitoring nutrient dynamics,including resorp.ion,chemistry of green and senesced leaves,foliar absorp.ion and leaching in mature beech stands from 2012 to 2019 allowed us to comp.re the nutrient exchanges for three nondry and three dry years(i.e.,with an intense drought event during the growing season).During dry years,we observed a decrease by almost a third of the p.tassium(K)p.rtitioning to resorp.ion(i.***.resorp.ion efficiency),thus reducing the K reserve in trees for the next growing season.This result suggests that with the increased drought frequency and intensity exp.cted for the coming decades,there will be a risk of p.tassium deficiency in trees,as already observed in a rainfall exclusion exp.riment on the same study site.Reduced foliar leaching and higher p.rititioning to the senesced leaves for K and p.osp.orus(p.were also observed.In addition,a slight increase in nitrogen(N)resorp.ion efficiency occurred during dry years which is more likely to imp.ove tree nutrition.The calcium(Ca)negative resorp.ion decreased,with no ap.arent consequence in our study site.Our results show that nutrient exchanges in the canop. and the p.rtitioning of the green leaf p.ol can be modified by drought events,and may
