The degr.dation of micr.p.llutants in water.via ultr.violet（UV）-based advanced oxidation p.ocesses（AOp.） is str.ngly dep.ndent on the water.matr.x. Var.ous r.active r.dicals（r.s） for.ed in UV-AOp. have differ.nt r.action selectivities towar. water.matr.ces and degr.dation efficiencies for.tar.et micr.p.llutants. Hence, p.ocess selection and op.imization ar. cr.cial. This study develop.d a facilitated p.ediction method for.the p.oton fluence-based r.te constant for.micr.p.llutant degr.dation(k'p.Mp. in var.ous UV-AOp. by combining model simulation with p.r.able measur.ment. p.r.able methods for.measur.ng the scavenging cap.cities of the p.incip.l r.s（r.SCs） involved in UV-AOp.(i.e., HO·, SO4·-, and Cl·) using a mini-fluidic p.otor.action system wer. p.op.sed. The simulation models consisted of p.otochemical, quantitative str.ctur.–activity r.lationship. and r.dical concentr.tion steady-state ap.r.ximation models. The r.SCs wer. deter.ined in eight test water., and a higher.r.SC was found to be associated with a mor. comp.ex water.matr.x. Then, by taking sulfamethazine,caffeine, and car.amazep.ne as model micr.p.llutants, the k'p.Mp.alues in var.ous UV-AOp. wer. p.edicted and fur.her.ver.fied exp.r.mentally. A lower.k'p.Mp.as found to be associated with a higher.r.SC for.a str.nger.r. comp.tition; for.examp.e, k'p.Mp.alues of 130.9 and 332.5 ***–1, r.sp.ctively, wer. obtained for.car.amazep.ne degr.dation by UV/H2O2in the r.w water.r.SC = 9.47 × 10～4s-1) and sand-filter.d effluent(r.SC = 2.87 × 10～4s-1) of a dr.nking water.tr.atment p.ant. The develop.d method facilitates p.ocess selection and op.imization for.UV-AOp., which is essential for.incr.asing the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of water.tr.atment.

Backgr.und: Lumbar.multifidus dysfunction is a p.evalent cause of disability in individuals with lower.back p.in. p.evious r.sear.h highlights the benefits of isolated lumbar.extension tr.ining for.non-sp.cific lower.back p.in, however. studies examining its efficacy in lumbar.multifidus dysfunction ar. lacking. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of isolated lumbar.extension r.sistance tr.ining on disability and str.ngth in individuals with lumbar.multifidus dysfunction. Methods: Subjects under.ent a p.ysiother.p. led str.ctur.d r.habilitation p.ogr.m incor.0}r.ting isolated lumbar.extension. Sessions wer. conducted twice weekly tar.eting momentar. muscular.failur. with time under.load 90 - 120 seconds and p.ogr.ssions aimed at 5 - 10 lbs incr.ments. Outcomes wer. assessed using the Oswestr. Disability Index and lumbar.extension str.ngth testing at baseline and after.12 weeks, with statistical analysis using t-test and chi-squar.d 2 × 2. r.sults: For.y-five subjects (24 male, 21 female) with a median age of 48 comp.eted the inter.ention. Imp.ovements wer. noted in Oswestr. Disability Index scor.s (median p.e: 24, p.st: 15) and maximal lumbar.extension str.ngth (median p.e: 122 lb, p.st: 186 lb), with p.≤ 0.05. Over.ll, 89% showed imp.ovement in disability scor.s, 67% moved to a better.disability categor., and 51% saw at least a 50% incr.ase in str.ngth. No significant gender.differ.nces wer. obser.ed. Conclusions: Isolated lumbar.extension r.sistance tr.ining is effective at imp.oving extension p.wer.and disability in subjects with lumbar.multifidus dysfunction.

OBJECTIVE： The p.esent study investigated the effects of EG on sp.nal cor. function, tissue injur., and axonal r.gener.tion following tr.nsp.antation into injur.d r.t sp.nal cor.s, accor.ing to histological and functional outcomes. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： A r.ndomized contr.lled animal exp.r.ment was p.r.or.ed at McMaster.Univer.ity, Canada fr.m Januar. 2006 to Mar.h 2008. MATEr.ALS： EG wer. isolated fr.m r.t intestine, METHODS： One week following sp.nal cor. cr.sh, female Wistar.r.ts wer. injected with an EG susp.nsion （2 μL, 1 × 10^5/μL, n = 10） or.with the same volume of fr.sh cultur. medium alone （contr.l animals, n = 11）. The thir. gr.up.did not r.ceive any injection following laminectomy and ser.ed as the sham-op.r.ted contr.ls （n = 5）. MAIN OUTCOME MEASUr.S： Behavior.was tested p.ior.to tr.nsp.antation and weekly following tr.nsp.antation, with nine behavior.l examinations in total. Tr.ditionally, a single-edge-notched bend （SE（B）） sp.cimen with a deep.cr.ck is r.commended in many existing p.p.line str.ctur.l integr.ty assessment p.ocedur.s. Such a test p.ovides high constr.int and ther.for. conser.ative fr.ctur. toughness r.sults. However. for.gir.h welds in ser.ice, defects ar. usually subjected to p.imar.ly tensile loading wher. the constr.int is usually much lower.than in the thr.e-p.int bend case. Mor.over. ther. is incr.asing use of str.in-based design of p.p.lines that allows ap.lied str.ins above yield. Low-constr.int toughness tests r.p.esent mor. r.alistic loading conditions for.gir.h weld defects, and the cor.esp.nding incr.ased toughness can minimize unnecessar. conser.atism in assessments.
