The geograp.ical location makes the p.rt of Livorno one of the most imp.rtant in Italy. The p.rt, in fact, benefits of an extended network of roads and rails connecting it with the rest of Italy, and central and southern Europ. as well. The history of Livorno and its p.rt is inextricably linked to that of p.sa and Florence, and to the comp.exity of events that determined the p.litical set-up.of the region along several centuries. Looking at the new p.rt p.an of Livorno has made it necessary an extensive overview of the history of both the p.rt, and of its p.anning. This analysis has allowed： to understand the reason for the different choices made in the p.st for the develop.ent of the p.rt, highlighting, when necessary, the errors made; to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the existing p.rt infrastructure; to identify the works needed to boost the p.rt in the Europ.an context. The p.rp.se of this p.p.r is to p.ovide a summary of the analysis p.rformed for the imp.ementation of the new Livorno p.rt p.an 2010 and show how the p.rt p.anning in Italy is often conditioned by hundreds of centuries of history.

An ordered nanostructure formed by ep.taxial crystallization of a semicrystalline block cop.lymer on a substrate has been used as a p.tterned temp.ate for the selective dep.sition of thermally evap.rated gold nanop.rticles, resulting in the formation of structure-guiding host nanocomp.sites in which the ordered distribution of the guest p.rticles is guided by the ordering of the host nanostructured block cop.lymer matrix. This op.ns new p.rsp.ctives in the field of p.lymeric comp.sites related to the maximum enhancement of effective p.ysical p.op.rties and to the numerous p.ssible ap.lications that arise due to the p.esence of long-range order in the sp.tial distribution of functional nanop.rticles.

The effect of FER zeolite acid sites in methanol-to-dimethyl-ether catalytic dehydration

In this p.p.r, the effect of acidity of zeolites with FER framework was studied in the methanol dehydration to dimethyl ether reaction, by comp.ring catalysts with different Si/Al ratios(namely 8, 30 and60). The aim of this work was to investigate how the acid sites concentration, strength, distribution and typ.logy(Br?nsted and Lewis) affect methanol conversion, DME selectivity and coke formation. It was found that the aluminium content affects slightly acid sites strength whilst a relevant effect on acid sites concentration and distribution(Br?nsted/Lewis) was observed as 24% of Lewis sites were found on Alrichest samp.es, whilst less than 10% of Lewis acid sites were observed on FER at higher Si/Al ratio. All the investigated catalyst samp.es showed a selectivity toward DME always greater than 0.9 and samp.es with the lowest Si/Al ratio exhibit the best p.rformances in terms of methanol conversion, ap.roaching the theoretical equilibrium value(around 0.85) at temp.ratures below 200 °C. Turnover-frequency analysis suggests that this result seems to be related not only to the higher amount of acid sites but also that the p.esence of Lewis acid sites may p.ay a significant role in converting methanol. On the other hand, the p.esence of Lewis acid sites, combined with a high acidity, p.omote the formation of by-p.oducts(mainly methane) and coke dep.sition during the reaction. As final evidence, all the investigated catalysts exhibit very high resistance to deactivation by coke dep.sition, over 60 h continuous test, and a GC–MS analysis of the coke dep.sited on the catalyst surface reveals tetra-methyl benzene as main comp.nent.

Ga-Al-MFI samp.es were synthesized in hydrothermal conditions from gels of comp.sition 1.08CH3NH2- 0.134Tp.Br-1SiO2-xAl2O3-yGa2O3-40H2O at 175 ℃ for 7 days, with x = 0.005 and 0.0025, y = 0.005, 0,010 and 0.020. The samp.es were characterized by XRD, BET measurements, thermal analysis （TGA-DTA） atomic absorp.ion and high resolution solid state MAS 27Al and 71Ga NMR measurements. The aromatization of p.op.ne was studied as catalytic test. The activity and selectivity of the catalysts were determined for benzene, toluene and xylenes on the one hand and for methane and ethane on the other hand. The most active samp.e was obtained with the highest Ga/AI ratio. For this samp.e, the BTX selectivity obtained by aromatization was always higher than the hydrocracking selectivity leading to methane and ethane. The relative amount of toluene was higher than that of benzene and ofxylenes. The samp.es were deactivated by coke formation that was revealed more severe for the most active samp.e,

AIM: To determine the comp.ications and incidence of the first and second access-related vascular injuries induced by videolap.roscop.c cholecistectomy. METHODS: We retrosp.ctively reviewed vascular injuries in 200 consecutive p.tients who underwent videolap.roscop.c cholecistectomy from 2003 to 2005. One hundred and one p.tients with p.acement of radial exp.nding trocars were assigned into group.A and 99 p.tients with p.acement of p.ramidal tip.ed trocars into group.B. All the p.tients were submitted to op.n access according to Hasson for the first trocar. RESULTS: Bleeding did not occur at the intraop.rative cannula-site in group.A. However, it occurred at the intraop.rative cannula-site of 7 p.tients (7.1%) in group.B, with a statistically significant difference (p.p.B. CONCLUSION: The advantage of Hasson technique is that p.ritoneal cavity access is gained under direct vision, p.eventing most severe injuries. The op.n technique with radial exp.nding trocars is recommended for secure access to the abdominal cavity in videolap.roscop.. Great care should be taken to avoid major comp.ications and understanding the abdominal wall anatomy is imp.rtant for reducing bleeding during or after s p.acement of trocars.

The p.p.r deals with the ap.lication of multiwall carbon nanotubes(CNTs) to the adsorp.ion of dyes from wastewater. Textile dyes are dangerous and diffused p.llutant in wastewater, and the p.p.r results confirmed the good adsorp.ion ability of CNTs, with resp.ct to classic active carbon, even for different dye typ.s. The effect of surface treatments of CNTs was p.imarily investigated, revealing that neither the p.esence of residual catalyst nor common surface treatment(oxidation) affects the CNT's p.rformances. Therefore less exp.nsive nonp.rified CNTs were assessed as good and economically convenient alternative for the p.ocess. In order to gain in generality in adsorp.ion kinetic modelling, the p.rameters of the "best fitting" p.eudo-second order model have been correlated to the main p.ocess variables(the dye initial concentration and the sp.cific mass of CNTs.) setting-up.a p.edictive kinetic model useful design new ap.lication of these materials in currently op.rating industrial op.rations for adsorp.ion. In addition, isothermal data were used to screen all the relevant adsorp.ion isotherms models and the Temkin model was confirmed as the more effective to accurately fit equilibrium data for any of the considered different dye typ.s.

p.oton p.mp.Inhibitors (p.I) are very effective in inhibiting acid secretion and are extensively used in many acid related diseases. They are also often used in p.tients with cirrhosis sometimes in the absence of a sp.cific acid related disease, with the aim of p.eventing p.p.ic comp.ications in p.tients with variceal or hyp.rtensive gastrop.thic bleeding receiving multidrug treatment. Contradicting rep.rts sup.ort their use in cirrhosis and evidence of their efficacy in this condition is p.or. Moreover there are convincing p.p.rs suggesting that acid secretion is reduced in p.tients with liver cirrhosis. With regard to Helicobacter p.lori (H p.lori) infection, its p.evalence in p.tients with cirrhosis is largely variable among different studies, and it seems that H p.lori eradication does not p.event gastro-duodenal ulcer formation and bleeding. With regard to the p.evention and treatment of oesop.ageal comp.ications after banding or sclerotherap. of oesop.ageal varices, there is little evidence for a p.otective role of p.I. Moreover, due to liver metabolism of p.I, the dose of most available p.Is should be reduced in cirrhotics. In conclusion, the use of this class of drugs seems more habit related than evidence- based eventually leading to an increase in health costs.

AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of granulocyte colony stimulating factors(G-CSF)in liver transp.anted p.tients with hep.titis C(HCV)recurrence and p.gylated-IFN α-2b induced neutrop.nia,and to evaluate the imp.ct of G-CSF administration on virological resp.nse. METHODS:Sixty-eight p.tients undergoing antiviral treatment for p.st-liver transp.antation(OLT)HCV recurrence were *** p.tients develop.ng neutrop.nia received G-CSF. RESULTS:Twenty three(34%)received *** neutrop.il count at the onset of neutrop.nia was 700/mmc(range 400-750/mmc);after 1 mo of G-CSF it increased to 1210/mmc(range 300-5590/mmc) (p.0.0001).Three p.tients did not resp.nd to G-CSF. Treatment duration was similar in neutrop.nic and non-neutrop.nic *** differences in the rate of discontinuation,infections or virological resp.nse were observed between the two group..G-CSF was p.otective for the onset of de novo autoimmune hep.titis(p.0.003). CONCLUSION:G-CSF administration is effective in the case of p.g-IFN induced neutrop.nia increasingneutrop.il count,p.olonging treatment and leading to sustained virological resp.nse(SVR)rates comp.rable to non-neutrop.nic *** p.events the occurrence of de novo autoimmune hep.titis.
