Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most prevalent form of arthritis and one of the leading causes of chronic disability which is becoming more pronounced as the population ages. Various genetic, biologic and mechanical factors contribute to disease process in OA. A large cascade of events leads to breakdown and degeneration of cartilage in a progressive manner ultimately resulting in the damage of the joint including the subchondral bone. Although majority of attention was given to chondral surface of the joint in the past, recently subchondral bone has been taken more and more attention during the investigation of degenerative phase in osteoarthritis. In our review we aimed to review the processes that were taken place during the osteoarthrosis especially in the sub-chondral bone and to give a new point of view for the further investigations.

Background: Although foreign body ingestion is a common problem, poor knowledge for the treatment still remains a major obstacle, especially in preventing complications. Phosphate enemas were applied for chronic constipation for a long period of time. This study aims to evaluate the effect of a single dose of phosphate enema on bowel movements in patients who suffer from foreign body ingestion. Materials and Methods: Forty consecutive patients admitted to our emergency unit for foreign body ingestion were randomized into two groups. Patients in both groups were followed up with daily imaging and physical examinations. Cases in Group SP received daily doses of sodium phosphate enemas, while Group C did not. Demographics, number of X-rays, radiation dose, and period of the foreign body passage were recorded and compared between two groups. Also, data of patients who ingested pins (Group P) were compared with of those who ingested other materials (Group O). Results: There was no statistical difference between groups (Group SP vs. Group C and Group P vs. Group O) comparing demographics, number of X-rays, total amount of radiation doses (p > 0.05 for all comparisons). The period of foreign body passage was shorter in Group SP (3.4 ± 1.6 days vs. 6.2 ± 3.8 days;p = 0.005). Also, patients who ingested pins were compared to patients who ingested other materials. Pins were ingested by 23 (65%) patients. These were older (16.6 ± 9.4 years vs. 4.8 ± 3.5 years;p = 0.001) and generally females (78.3% vs. 29.4;p = 0.006). Contrary to the other cases, pins were less frequently confirmed in stool in patients who ingested pins (p = 0.02). Conclusion: A single dose of phosphate enema use may hasten the passage of the foreign bodies. Ingestion of pins is the more common especially in young females. The evacuation of pins is generally recognized with direct examination of the stool, so daily imaging may not be necessary for this group of patients.

In recent years the variety and complexity of Wireless Sensor Network （WSN） applications, the nodes and the functions they are expected to perform have increased immensely. This poses the question of reducing the time from initial design of WSN applications to their implementation as a major research topic. RF communication programs for WSN nodes are generally written on microcontroller units （MCUs） for universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter （UART） data communication, however nowadays radio frequency （RF） designs based on field-programmable gate array （FPGA） have emerged as a very powerful alternative, due to their parallel data processing ability and software reconfigurability. In this paper, the authors present a prototype of a flexible multi-node transceiver and monitoring system. The prototype is designed for time-critical applications and can be also reconfigured for other applications like event tracking. The processing power of FPGA is combined with a simple communication protocol. The system consists of three major parts： wireless nodes, the FPGA and display used for visualization of data processing. The transmission protocol is based on preamble and synchronous data transmission, where the receiver adjusts the receiving baud rate in the range from min. 300 to max. 2400 bps. The most important contribution of this work is using the virtual PicoBlaze Soft-Core Processor for controlling the data transmission through the RF modules. The proposed system has been evaluated based on logic utilization, in terms of the number of slice flip flops, the number of 4 input LUTs （Look-Up Tables） and the number of bonded lOBs （Input Output Blocks）. The results for capacity usage are very promising as compared to other similar research.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most common behavioral disorder of childhood and it has 5% prevalence among children worldwide [1]. In the treatment of ADHD stimulant medications are recommended as the first choice of pharmacotherapy [2]. Methylphenidate-HCl is a sympathomimetic amine derivative pharmacological agent;and it is widely used in the treatment of ADHD. Although there are some articles showing that oral methylphenidate increases the risk of glaucoma [3], to the best of our knowledge, there is only one case report that indicates a possible relation of methylphenidate treatment and cataract formation [4].

Objectives: The study was conducted retro-spectively to evaluate the services offered at the Premarital Counseling Center (PCC) and the characteristics of the individuals who obtained counseling at the center in Kayseri. Methods: A retrospective review is based on data from the Premarital Counseling Center (PCC) in Kayseri. Seven hundred fifty four (754) individuals who attended the Center were included in the study sample. Data were collected from the Center’s records. Records of all people were reviewed by the researchers. Differences in proportions were analyzed by Chi square test and t test. Results: The age-average of the individuals who consulted the PCC was 26.2 ± 8.3, 91.1% of the individuals had Rh (+), 99.5% of them had VDRL (-), 3.9% had Hbs Ag (+), 0.8% had HCV (+) while none of the individuals was HIV (+) affected. It’s shown that 90.6% of the individuals who were between the ages of 15 - 19 were women, 9.4% of them were men. The difference between the age and the gender of the individuals who came to the center was considered significant. It was determined that the individuals who received counseling services at the PCC were not given any kind of educational and consulting services before.

Prognostic Values of PET/CT Findings and Tumor/Patient Characteristics with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Background/Aim: Although numerous prognostic factors have been described for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), there is still a requirement for better and non-invasive markers. FDG-PET is a non invasive diagnostic tool that is being used increasingly in the diagnosis of lung cancer. This study evaluates the prognostic values of PET/CT defined SUV measurements and other patient/tumor characteristics in newly diagnosed stage IIIB and IV NSCLC. Method: This ret- rospective study included 111 patients admitted between 2005 and 2006 with stage IIIB and IV NSCLC, whose diag- noses were verified with biopsy and staging performed with PET/CT. The prognostic values of standart uptake values (SUV) of the primary lesion on PET/CT, and other patient/tumor characteristics were analyzed using survival analysis. Results: SUV was found to be unrelated with survival. Only the presence of distant metastasis, type of metastasis (bone, brain, or the contralateral lung) and the type of radiotherapy used (curative or palliative) were found to be related to survival. SUV values in epidermoid carcinoma were found to be significantly higher compared to adenocarcinoma (16.15 ± 7.18 and 12.32 ± 5.52, respectively, p = 0.021).Conclusion: Our findings do not support that SUV of the pri- mary lesion in inoperable NSCLC has a prognostic value with respect to survival. This condition may be explained by the inclusion of significantly advanced NSCLC patients who are known to have a low survival and a high mortality, and also the relatively small sampling size.

Background: Alveolar ridge resorption still continues to be a problem in oral surgery. Cause of bone resorption is including tooth extraction, periodontal disease and inflammatory periapical pathologies. Various methods and materials have been suggested to minimize this resorption. Aim: Goal of this case report is to present alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) following horizontally fractured maxillary lateral incisor with allograft in the aesthetic zone. Case presentation: 30-year-old female patient with fractured tooth was treated by grafting and insertion dental implant. Fractured tooth extraction was performed and extraction socket augmentation was performed by allograft and covered with collagen membrane. Augmented area was treated with bone-level implant. Definitive prosthesis single-tooth porcelain-fused-to-zirconia restorations were fabricated. Conclusions: Before implant insertion, extraction and grafting socket procedure is appropriate treatment for of fractured teeth with granulation tissue.
