Silica gel and MCM-41 synthesized mesoporous materials were treated with either oxygen（o_2）,hexamethyldisiloxane（HMDSo） and organic vapors like ethanol（Et oH）,and acrylonitrile（AN）inductive *** radiofrequency power for the modification was fixed to 120 W and30 min,assuring a high degree of organic ionization energy in the *** surface properties were studied by infrared spectroscopy（FTIR）,scanning electron microscopy,x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering technique was used for characterizing size *** the silica and MCM-41 particles were modified by AN and HMDSo plasma gases,the surface morphology of the particles was changed,presenting another color,size or *** contrast,the treatments of oxygen and Et oH did not affect the surface morphology of both particles,but increased the oxygen content at the surface bigger than the AN and HMDSo plasma *** this study,we investigated the influence of different plasma treatments on changes in morphology and the chemical composition of the modified particles which render them a possible new adsorbent for utilization in sorptive extraction techniques for polar compounds.

AIM: To explore gastroenterologist perceptions towards and experience with faecal microbiota transplantation(FMT).METHoDS: A questionnaire survey consisting of 17 questions was created to assess gastroenterologists' attitude towards and experience with FMT. This was anonymously distributed in hard copy format amongst attendees at gastroenterology meetings in Australia between october 2013 and April 2014. Basic descriptive statistical analyses were ***: Fifty-two clinicians participated. Twenty one percent had previously referred patients for FMT,8% more than once. Ninety percent would refer patients with Clostridium difficile infection(CDI) for FMT if easily available,37% for ulcerative colitis,13% for Crohn's disease and 6% for irritable bowel syndrome. Six percent would not refer any indication,including recurrent CDI. Eighty-six percent would enroll patients in FMT clinical trials. Thirty-seven percent considered the optimal mode of FMT administration transcolonoscopic,17% nasoduodenal,13% enema and 8% oral capsule. The greatest concerns regarding FMT were: 42% lack of evidence,12% infection risk,10% non infectious adverse effects/lack of safety data,10% aesthetic,10% lack of efficacy,4% disease exacerbation,and 2% inappropriate use; 6% had no concerns. Seventy seven percent believed there is a lack of accessibility while 52% had an interest in learning how to provide FMT. only 6% offered FMT at their ***: Despite general enthusiasm,most gastroenterologists have limited experience with,or access to,FMT. The greatest concerns were lack of supportive evidence and safety issues. However a significant proportion would refer indications other than CDI for FMT despite insufficient evidence. These data provide guidance on where education and training are required.

The conservation behavior framework is useful to identify key linkages between behavior and conservation practice. We apply this framework to a novel host-parasite system on the Galapagos Islands and ask if there have been changes in parasite oviposition behavior and host mortality patterns across the first decade （2004-2013） of its known association. The Dipteran parasite Philornis downsi was first discovered in Darwin＇s finch nests in 1997 and is the biggest threat to the survival of Galapagos land birds. Host mortality has increased over the past decade. In Dipterans, pupation and pupae size are determined by access to host resources. Here, we test the hypothesis that P downsi flies are laying eggs in finch nests earlier in the nestling phase to maximize larval feeding time and therefore chance of pupation success before host death. The results show fewer 1st instar larvae later in the host nesting cycle in support of earlier egg laying behavior by female flies. Between 2004 and 2013, parasite intensity increased from -28 to -48 parasites per nest, host mortality increased from -50% to -90%, and host age at death decreased from -11 to -5 days. The earlier age at host death was correlated with fewer pupae （from -50% to -20%） and smaller pupae size （-10% decrease）. Changes in parasite behavior reveal new fitness costs to both the parasite and Darwin＇s finches. These findings un- derscore the need for urgent conservation action to save Darwin＇s finches from extinction due to a novel, lethal and introduced parasite [Current Zoology 60 （4）： 542-550, 2014].

Aims our study quantified the combined effects of fertilization and inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF)on grain yield and allocation of biomass and nutrients in field-grown rice(oryza sativa l.).Methods a two-factor experiment was conducted at a field site in northeast of China(in shuangcheng,Heilongjiang Province,songhua river basin):six nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium fertilizer levels were provided(0,20,40,60,80 and 100%of the local norm of ferti-lizer supply),with or without inoculation with Glomus *** maturity,we quantified the percentage of root length colonization by AMF,grain yield,shoot:root ratios,shoot N and P contents and nutrients allocated to panicles,leaves and *** Findingsas expected,inoculation resulted in greatly increased AMF colo-nization,which in turn led to higher shoot:root ratios and greater shoot N ***:root ratios of inoculated rice increased with increasing fertilization while there was a significant interaction between fertilization and inoculation on shoot:root ***,a F inoculation increased panicle:shoot ratios,panicle N:shoot N ratios and panicle P:shoot P ratios,especially in plants grown at low fertilizer ***,inoculated rice exhibited higher grain yield,with the maximum improvement(near 62%)at the lower fertilizer *** results showed that(i)AMFinoculated plants conform to the functional equilibrium theory,albeit to a reduced extent compared to non-inoculated plants and(ii)AMF inoculation resulted in greater allocation of shoot biomass to panicles and increased grain yield by stimulating N and P redis-tribution to panicles.

Cretaceous amber from Myanmar(～99 Ma Burmese amber) has become a valuable supplement to the traditional skeletal record of small theropod dinosaurs preserved in sedimentary rocks, particularly for coelurosaurs and enantiornithines. The specimens recovered from this deposit preserve skeletal material and soft tissues in unmatched detail. This provides opportunities to study three-dimensional preservation of soft tissues, microstructure, and pigmentation patterns that are seldom available elsewhere in the fossil record. Ultimately, this line of research provides insights into life stages that are difficult to preserve, the ecology and appearance of the groups involved, and the evolutionarydevelopment of structures such as feathers. Here we describe the most recent discovery from Burmese amber, an articulated skeleton of an enantiornithine bird. This individual has been sectioned along the coronal plane, providing a unique view inside multiple body regions. osteological observations and plumage patterns support placement within the Enantiornithes, and suggest that the animal may have been a juvenile at the time of death. The specimen has a complex taphonomic history that includes exposure at the surface of a resin flow prior to encapsulation, and may include scavenging by some of the insects trapped within the same amber piece. The chemical composition observed along surface exposures and shallowly buried regions of the body indicate that the specimen has not undergone significant exchange with its surroundings. High iron concentrations are present in regions that preserve soft tissues as carbon films, and calcium distribution corresponds to regions where bones breach the surface of the amber.
