Site condition and bedrock depth play important roles in the determination of peak surface acceleration(PSA)values by earthquake *** soil parameters of shear wave velocity(Vs)and standard penetration test-number(N)value for Jakarta city are available up to 100 m below the Earth’s surface even though the typical depths to bedrock are in excess of 100 *** study referred to the base motion peak ground acceleration(PGA)values of 0.100 g,0.218 g and 0.378 g to predict the PSA values using the Nonlinear Earthquake site Response Analysis(NERA)to analyse a simulated dataset for the bedrock depths of 100 m,200 m,300 m,400 m and 500 m with conditioned by clayey and sandy soils.A new empirical equation of Vs=102.48 N0.297(m/s)was proposed to calculate the values of Vsused as an input parameter in the NERA programme for the prediction of seismic wave *** results showed that the PSA values are dependent on the amplitude of seismic waves,depths of bedrock and the local site *** in the PSA values from 41.0%to 51.5%and from 46.1%to 79.8%for the bedrocks overlain by sand,from 20.0%to 42.1%and from 45.9%to 58.8%for the bedrocks overlain by clay with increasing of bedrock depths from 200 m to 300 m and from 400 m to 500 m,respectively,were predicted for a 2500-year return period *** in the PSA values by 41.0%,51.5%,46.1%,79.8%for the bedrocks overlain by sand and by 20.0%,42.1%,45.9%,58.8%for the bedrocks overlain by clay were predicted for a 2500-year return period earthquake due to the bedrock depth changes of 200 m,300 m,400 m,500 ***-magnitude earthquake of Jakarta city has a significant effect on an increase or a decrease of the PSA value with depth of bedrock and may cause the vibration damage to buildings and other constructions on the *** analysis of the PSA value and PSA ratio influenced by the PGA value,bedrock depth and local soil conditions will make a contribution to the design of earthquake-safe building f

Synthesizes and Characterization Studies of Some Metal Ion Complexes with EOSBE and MOSBE

This work includes synthesis of 2,2＇-（5,5＇-（ethane-1,2-diyl）bis（1,3,4-oxadiazole-5,2diyl））bis（sulfanediyl）dibenzenamine （EOSBE） and 2,2＇-（5,5＇-methylenebis（1,3,4-oxadiazole-5,2-diyl）bis（sulfanediyl））dibenzenamine （MOSBE）. All synthesized ligands were characterized by IR, ^1H-NMR, ^13C-NMR, UV-visible spectroscopies and molar conductivity. A series of complexes with a general formula [M2LCl4]. Where M（Ⅱ） = Co, Ni, Cu and Zn; L = EOSBE and MOSBE were synthesized in basic media using KOH solution. In these complexes both ligands are bidentate ligands coordinated through sulfur and nitrogen. All complexes have been characterized by IR-spectra, UV-visiblc spectra, conductivity and magnetic susceptibility.

Phytochemistry and larvicidal activity of Eucalyptus camaldulensis against malaria vector,Anopheles stephensi

Objective:To determine phytochemistry and larvicidal activity of Eucalyptus eamaldulensis against Anopheles ***:The chemical compositions of the leaf essential oils were analyzed using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry（GC/MS）.The larvicidal activity of essential oils and extract of leaf were tested against 4th instar larvae of laboratory-reared Anopheles ***:GC/MS analyses identified the presence of 28 compounds corresponding to 99.60%of the total *** main constituents in the leaf essential oil were 1,8-cineole（69.46%）,γ-Terpinene（15.10%）,α-Pinene（5.47%） and Globulol（2%）.The leaf extract and volatile oil exerted significant larvicidal activity with LC50 values of 89.85 and 397.75 ppm,*** dose-response relationships were established with the highest dose of 320 ppm essential oil extract resulted almost 100%mortality in the ***:The larvicidal properties suggest that the essential oil of plant is a potential source of valuable larvicidal compounds against malaria vector and can be used as an alternative to synthetic insecticides.

Phenotyping Winter Dormancy in Switchgrass to Extend the Growing Season and Improve Biomass Yield

Switchgrass is a prominent bioenergy crop. Like most perennial warm season species, switchgrass undergoes growth suspension in winter as a surviving strategy in temperate climates to protect their meristems from cold injuries and dehydration, while storage organs below ground drive spring regrowth when conditions become favourable. In this paper, we describe a reliable phenotyping method for winter dormancy in switchgrass using various traits including regrowth height after clipping in early fall (FRH), senescence percentage, date of spring regrowth (SRD), and flowering date (FD). FRH and senescence percentage appear to be reliable indicators of the onset of winter dormancy, whereby accessions that initiated dormancy early have a low FRH and a high senescence percentage. Even though it is difficult to have an exact assessment of the duration of dormancy because it is hard to determine with precision the date of growth suspension, SRD can be used as a surrogate indicator of the duration. Flowering date showed low correlations with all the traits and biomass yield suggesting that it may not be a reliable indicator for winter dormancy in switchgrass. Combining the variables FRH, senescence, and SRD in a selection index may provide a reliable tool to phenotype winter dormancy in switchgrass. The strong correlation of these variables with biomass yield makes them useful candidates for the manipulation of the duration of dormancy to increase the growing season and consequently improving biomass production. In southern regions with mild winters, it might be possible through intense selection to develop germplasm with much reduced dormancy or even non-dormant switchgrass germplasm.

Insecticide susceptibility status and resistance mechanism of Anopheles cracens Sallum and Peyton and Anopheles maculatus Theobald(Family: Culicidae) from knowlesi malaria endemic areas in Peninsular Malaysia

Role of urine studies in asymptomatic febrile neutropenic patients presenting to the emergency department

BACKGROUND: The role of urine studies in the detection of urinary tract infection(UTI) in febrile neutropenic patients with urinary symptoms(having a urinary catheter or having a positive urine analysis) is inarguable. However, the evidence is scarce regarding the indication for urine studies in asymptomatic(i.e., without urinary symptoms) patients with febrile neutropenia(FN) presenting to the emergency department(ED). The aim of this study is to evaluate the need for obtaining urine studies in asymptomatic febrile neutropenic ***: This was a retrospective cohort study conducted on adult cancer patients who presented to the ED with FN and had no urinary symptoms. We included all ED presentations of eligible patients between January 2013 and September 2018. Student's t-test and Wilcoxon rank-sum test were used for continuous data, while Chi-square and Fisher's exact tests were used for categorical data. Participants were divided into two groups based on their urine culture(UC) results: negative and positive UCs. Two cut-offs were used for positive UC results: ≥10~5 cfu/m L and ≥10~4 cfu/m ***: We included 284 patients in our study. The age of our patient population was 48.5±18.5 years. More than two-thirds(68.7%) of patients had severe neutropenia, while only 3.9% and 9.9% of the patients had positive UCs at ≥10~5 cfu/m L and ≥10~4 cfu/m L, respectively. UCs were expectedly positive in most patients with urinalysis(UA) abnormalities. However, 27.3% and 32.1% of patients with positive UCs at ≥10~5 cfu/m L and ≥10~4 cfu/m L respectively had a normal UA. CONCLUSIONS: In our study, the incidence of UTI in adult febrile neutropenic cancer patients who present to the ED without urinary symptoms is low. Consequently, routine urine testing may not be warranted in this population, as it adds unnecessary financial burdens on the patients and delays timely management.

We report a case of severe post partum cadiomyopathy in severe cardiogenic shock, treated successfully and urgently with the implantation of Left Ventricular Assist device. The patient recovered a normal left ventricle function shortly after implantation. This case illustrates the crucial place of left ventricular assist device in severe post partum cardiomyopathy as a bridge to recovery as well as a bridge to transplantation.

Objective: To investigate phenolics, fatty acids composition and biological activities of various extracts and fractions of Malaysian Aaptos aaptos. Methods: Fatty acid methyl ester was analyzed by gas chromatography-flame ionization detector. Antioxidant activity was determined using 2,2-diphenyl-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging assay and total phenolics content by Folin-Ciocalteu procedure. Vero cells viability was evaluated using methyl thiazole tetrazolium and the inactivation of herpes simplex virus type 1 by neutral red uptake assay. p-Hydroxybenzamide isolated by column chromatography was characterized by utilizing nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and electron impact mass spectrometry. Results: The chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of Aaptos aaptos produced higher portions of straight-chain saturated fatty acid, while hexane extract mainly consisted of unsaturated fatty acid. The five majors of fatty acid methyl ester were identified as behenic acid, cis-10-heptadecenoic acid and cis-10-pentadecenoic acids, palmitic acid and tricosanoic acid. In addition, among all organic extracts, chloroform extract inactivated herpes simplex virus type 1 while exhibited weak cytotoxic activity against normal Vero cells and also exhibited strong cytotoxic activity on HL-60, MCF-7, K562, CEM-SS and WEHI-3 B cells. A phenolic compound, p-hydroxybenzamide was also isolated from the sponge. Conclusions: Aaptos aaptos could be a source to derive the potential antiviral and anticancer agents. However, further studies are needed to determine the mechanism involved in the process.

HiMAC: Hierarchical Message Authentication Code for Secure Data Dissemination in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Mobile ad-hoc networks are wireless self-organized networks in which mobile nodes can connect directly to each other. This fact makes such networks highly susceptible to security risks and threats, as malicious nodes can easily disguise as new trusted nodes and start attacking the network after a certain period of time. Hence, the security of data transmission in MANET has been a hot topic in the past years. Several research works attempted to detect and stop various attacks on MANET nodes and packets. This paper presents an efficient mechanism for secure data dissemination in MANETs. Our approach is based on the identity based cryptography and Message Authentication Code (MAC). The proposed security mechanism prevents malicious nodes from tampering or replaying intermediate packets by means of signing and encrypting the packet at each intermediate trusted node. We tested the efficiency of our system using the ns2 simulator by comparing it to a similar security mechanism. The simulations illustrate that our approach obtains many advantages over other existing approaches for secure data dissemination in MANETs.
