Hypothesizing “Reward” Gene Polymorphisms May Predict High Rates of Injury and Addiction in the Workforce: A Nutrient and Electrotherapeutic Based Solution

We hypothesize that individuals with genetic predisposition to Substance Use Disorder (SUD) may have greater likelihood of experiencing work related accidents. We further hypothesize that high risk populations will carry single or multiple polymorphisms associated with brain reward circuitry and/or brain reward cascade, including: Dopaminergic (i.e. DRD2 receptor genes);Serotonergic (i.e. 5-HTT2 receptor genes);Endorphinergic (i.e. pre-enkephalin genes);Gabergic (i.e. GABAA receptor genes);Neurotransmitter Metabolizing genes (i.e. MAO and COMT genes) among others (GARSRXTM). Analgesic addiction as well as “pseudoaddiction” must be treated to improve pain control and its management. We propose that non-pharmacological alternatives to pain relief, in high risk, addiction-prone individuals, are Electrotherapeutic Device(s) and Programs. We further propose patented KB220Z, a nutraceutical designed to release dopamine at the nucleus accumbens, will reduce craving behavior, in genetically programmed individuals. By utilizing both alternatives in DNA analyzed injured workers, a reduction in analgesic addiction (genuine or pseudo) leads to improved health and quicker return to work. We also hypothesize that this novel approach will impact costs related to injuries in the workforce. Effective management of chronic pain, especially in high addiction-prone workforce populations, is possible in spite of being particularly elusive. A series of factors encumber pain assessment and management, including analgesia addiction, pharmacogenomic response to pain medications, and genetically inherited factors involving gene polymorphisms. Additional research is required to test these stipulated hypotheses related to genetic proneness to addiction, but also proneness to accidents in the workplace and reduction of craving behavior. Probiotic levels, chemical composition and fermentative characteristics in solid state fermentation of paper sludge for animal feeding

The sludge paper of the industry treated with probiotics in solid state fermentation (SSF) could be used as ingredient in rations for animal feeding. This study assessed the effect of four probiotic (Prozoot15?) levels (PT) on chemical and fermentative characteristics in SSF of the paper sludge (PS) at controlled temperature (30°C) in laboratory scale. The tested treatments (T) were: T1 (0% PS), T2 (50 g/kg PS), T3 (100 g/kg PS) and T4 (150 g/kg PS), which were fermented at 0, 24, 48 and 72 h, according to a completely randomized design, in a 4 × 4 factorial arrangement with six repetitions per sampling. All treatments included (g/kg DM) 300 molasses, 15 urea, 20 ammonium sulfate, 9 calcium carbonate and 5 of vitamin and mineral premix, plus the PS which was substituted by the PT at 0, 50, 100 and 150 g/kg DM. The results showed a decrease in pH in all treatments at 24 h;however the lowest pH was at 72 h of fermentation. Thought the increasing demand Arachis hypogaea l. (groundnut), its yields remain low with increasingly using chemical fertilizers. To reduce the costs for chemical fertilizers inquisition and their long-term toxic effects on soils, microbial bio-fertilizers could be an accessible alternative to peanut farms. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess the performance of rhizobia strains on peanut varieties production. The experiments were conducted in two agro-ecological zones of Benin, in a peasant environment peasant-researcher control or under peasant and researcher control. The experimental device used was a complete random block with nine repetitions and two factors namely inoculation (with Rhizobium sp and without Rhizobium sp) and mineral fertilizer (with N15P15K15 and without N15P15K15). The effects of these factors divided into four treatments were evaluated on the plants vegetative, symbiotic and production parameters. In addition, an evaluation of each treatments’ comparative advantages was carried out. The results showed that the association Rhizobium sp and N15P15K15 induced groundnut plants best vegetative and productive parameters. The best comparative advantages in economic terms were also recorded with the same combination (Rhizobium sp + N15P15K15). Considering the technical performance, the recorded treatments effects can be classified as follows: Control Rhizobium sp 15P15K15 Rhizobium sp + N15P15K15. Thus, the association Rhizobium sp + N15P15K15 induced both the best plants vegetative and productive parameters and the best comparative advantage from an economic point of view. The results also showed that the plants’ response to inoculation, the application of manure and their combination was more marked in the bar soil zone (Covè) than in the cotton zone (Ouessè). Considering the negative effects linked to the use of chemical fertilizers, the use of Rhizobium sp could be an interesting path to increase the groundnut production.

研究了硫丹对草鱼肝脏Ⅰ相酶氨基比林-N-脱甲基酶(APND)和红霉素-N-脱甲基酶(ERND)、Ⅱ相酶谷胱甘肽-S-转移酶(GST)活性及DNA受损细胞彗星尾长(Tl)和尾部DNA含量(%TDNA)的影响。试验共设置0.18、0.36和0.71μg.l-1 3个暴露浓度组和1个空白对照组,分别在试验24、72、120和168 h时取样测定各指标。结果表明,24 h时,0.36和0.71μg.l-1暴露组草鱼肝脏APND活性与对照组相比显著升高(Pl-1暴露组GST活性均在72 h时达到最高值,之后随暴露时间的延长缓慢降低,并在168 h时表现为受抑制;0.18μg.l-1暴露组在120 h时达到最大值,之后降低,168 h时GST活性与对照组水平相当。经硫丹暴露后,草鱼肝脏细胞DNA明显受损,Tl与%TDNA均随硫丹浓度的升高或暴露时间的延长而增加,且相关显著。硫丹可影响草鱼肝脏Ⅰ相、Ⅱ相代谢酶活性,并对肝细胞DNA造成遗传损伤。

Quality Control of Juices Produced in Democratic Republic of Congo and Marketed in lubumbashi

The consumption of juice has increased sharply in recent years in lubumbashi. The objective of this study was to determine the standards applicable to the types of juice for domestic consumption in lubumbashi. A descriptive cross-sectional study on quality control (QC) of ten brands of juice selected from around thirty listed on the lubumbashi markets focused on the determination of different physico-chemical and microbiological parameters. Physical analysis of the juices was carried out in the laboratory of the Congolese Office of Control (OCC) in February 2019. It appears that five samples, or 25%, have a density lower than the ISO 9001 standard. All the samples have a Brix Degree in accordance with French standards applicable by the Congolese control office. The chemical analysis shows that 4 samples, or 20%, have a pH 4, therefore higher than the prescribed standards. As for the titratable acidity and the formaldehyde index, all the samples have values within normal limits. On the other hand, the glucose level of all the samples is abnormally high (≥40 g/l). The sucrose level of 50% of the samples is normal (≥80 g/l). Microbiological analysis revealed that certain juices were without preservatives and harbored aerobic mesophilic germs (10%), lactic bacteria (20%) yeasts and molds (10%). It is urgent that the public authorities bring all the producers to respect the standards in order to protect the health of the populations.

Isolation of l. interrogans Serovar Pomona in 14 Human Cases and an African lion, All with Chronic leptospirosis

Depending on its time of evolution, leptospirosis presents two phases: acute and chronic. The chronic leptospirosis is widely accepted in animals and, until recently, this was denied in humans. Since the 1990s, we have studied dozens of cases demonstrating the chronicity of leptospirosis, including an asymptomatic or undetermined form that may remain so throughout life time or may evolve into a definitive chronic disease and/or worsen, becoming severe cases. A fundamental part for its demonstration is the isolation and characterization of the etiologic agent. In this work, the first 14 isolations of leptospira sp. are reported from human chronic leptospirosis and an African lion diagnosed with chronic leptospirosis, obtained between 2002 and 2006, in urine, blood, and skin microbiopsies. From the 14 isolations from patients with chronic leptospirosis, one of the cases is apparently congenital and two are from patients with chronic asymptomatic leptospirosis. The diagnosis was performed by means of videorecording in darkfield microscopy in blood and urine, specific culture media, and MAT serology. Argentic impregnation and detection of specific antigen by immunostaining in blood were performed in seven patients;in two patients, skin microbiopsies and biopsies were performed. All cases were positive by video-recording in darkfield, one of them MAT was 1:160, and the rest were positive at low titers (≤1:80). The two skin biopsies were positive by argentic impregnation and immunostaining. Eleven isolates were obtained from blood, two from skin, and one from urine. The isolates were characterized by monoclonal antibodies as leptospira serovar Pomona. l. Pomona is considered of low virulence and high adaptability to the host, and is frequently associated to chronic leptospirosis in animals. Investigation of Chemical Bath Deposition of ZnO Nanocrystals Thin Films Using Different ZnNO3 Concentration

In this work, thin films growth at different ZnNO3 concentrations: 0.02 M, 0.03 M and 0.04 M by chemical bath deposition (CBD) as-prepared on glass substrates at 80 °C ± 2 °C. Patterns Diffraction x-ray (DRX) shown peaks 2θ = (31.72, 32.769, 34.36, 36.10, 47.44, 56.52, 62.78, 67.84 and 69.02), at concentration 0.02 M show formation from hydrozincite [Zn5(CO3)2(OH)6]. The optical band gap shifts from 3.8 eV to 3.6 eV. Photoluminescence (Pl) spectra show intensity variation of the green emission (GE) may be resulted from variation of the intrinsic defect in ZnO films, such zinc vacancy (VZn), oxygen vacancy (VO), and interstitial zinc (Zni), interstitial oxygen (Oi). The presence of defects in our samples is responsible for the observed broad visible Pl bands; this indicates reductions of oxygen vacancies and increase of oxygen interstitials. It could be believed that the presence of defects in samples is responsible for the observed broad visible Pl band. The concentration increased the visible defect luminescence, which might be due to improvement to sample stoichiometric. The presence of both green emission (GE) and yellow emission (YE) can be seen through the deconvolution of the defect increasing the concentration, the position of the GE shifted from 1.96-2.45 eV and the increase of its intensity. The shifts of these two visible Pl bands might be due to changes in local environments of the defects centers in samples due to increased concentration. Therefore, the GE relate to donor levels dominated due to increase of oxygen vacancies. ZnO is an n-type semiconductor and it means that most defects are Zn interstitials and oxygen vacancies. Raman spectra showed increase of the 437 cm-1 (E2 mode) peak intensity due concentration 0.4 M.

Perceived Barriers to Physical Activity and Related Factors in Spanish University Students

Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of readiness of change for physical activity (PA), sociodemographic factors, lifestyle and physical activity status (PAS) on perceived barriers among Spanish university students. Participants: Seven hundred and seventy two (n = 772) men and women ages 17-39 at a north-west regional university in Spain participated in the study. Methods: The International Physical Activity Questionnaire, the States of Change for Physical Activity Behaviour Questionnaire and the Self-perceived Barriers for Physical Activity Questionnaire were used. Description, correlation and multiple regression analyses were completed. Results: Participants self-perceived low average-score barriers (2.6 ± 1.4 over 10.0). The 3-higher scores barriers corresponded to “too much work”;“lack of time for exercise” and “laziness”. Gender, PAS and self-perceived health were shown to be associated with perceived barriers. Conclusions: University institutions should consider those factors that predict barriers to PA to develop effective intervention programs.

Experimental Study of a Modified Icaro Solar Dryer: The Case of Coffee Drying

Food losses in the developing country are thought to be 50% of the fruits and vegetables grown and 25% of harvested food grain. Food preservation can reduce wastage of a harvest surplus, allow storage for food shortages, and in some cases facilitate export to high-value markets. Drying is one of the oldest methods of food preservation. Drying makes produce lighter, smaller, and less likely to spoil and helps to minimize the moisture content in coffee beans as high moisture content during storage is certain to ruin the taste and appearance of coffee. This work presents the results of an experimental study of forced convection drying of coffee cherries in a modified Icaro solar dryer. The study aims to validate the numerical models developed for further research. The experimental tests envisaged also aim to determine the mass loss curves of the product by fixing or calculating its initial mass (1 kg), its initial water content (70%), the ambient temperature, the drying airflow (0.02 m3.s-1 to 0.09 m3.s-1) and the exchange coefficients. The influence of these aerothermal parameters on the drying time of a most commercialized coffee variety (Robusta) was studied. Finally, the results revealed an increase in the efficiency of the heat transfer air and a reduction in the water content of the coffee cherry from 70% to 9.87%, after 30.2 hours.
