A Simulation Model for Sexual and Vectorial Transmission of Zika Virus(ZIKV)

Nowadays the Zika virus (ZIKV) has been one of the most studied vector-borne diseases due to the considerable outbreaks that have generated around the world as well as due to the new transmission mechanisms and health complications originated. According to statistics of the INS-Colombia for July 2016, 68% of the population infected by ZIKV (confirmed cases) are pregnant women. Furthermore, the Quindío department belongs to the states with more than 50% of the total infected persons being pregnant women. Taking into account those characteristics, a theoretical model is proposed and analyzed to describe the population dynamics considering the sexual and vectorial transmission of ZIKV, with special emphasis in the consequences of the non-vectorial transmission in the population. The obtained results with simulations through the beta parameter indicate that the probability of sexual transmission between susceptible women and infected men points out the importance of campaigns to inculcate prevention measures for the safe sexual relationships between ZIKV infected population.

The increase in the population of neurodegenerative diseases has made it necessary to search for new drugs and phytopharmaceuticals for the prevention or treatment of these diseases,which is why the exploration of the potential of the plants present in the coffee zone is of great *** objective of this study was to determine the possible neuroprotective effect of the species Nectandra *** methanolic extract of Nectandra acutifolia was obtained through maceration of the aerial part of the *** phytochemical profile was detected by means of thin layer *** evaluation of the antioxidant capacity was carried out by means of the colorimetric techniques of DPPH and ABTS ^+.On the other hand,the total content of phenols and flavonoids was determined as well as the neuroprotective activity,by means of the negative geotaxis test and biochemical ***,the methanolic extract of *** showed a high antioxidant capacity through the two colorimetric *** negative geotaxis test revealed that the concentration of 0.1%had a greater locomotor effect in ***,which was used as a supplement in the feeding of the *** results showed that the methanolic extract of this species has neuroprotective activity using this in vivo model.

A fast method of liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry(LC-MS/MS) was developed for the analysis of eleven UV ink photoinitiators in packaged *** separation was achieved in a pentafluorophenylpropyl (PFPP) column at 5X2 and acetonitrile:25mM formic acid-ammonium formate(pH 2.7) in gradient elution. To reduce sample treatment,a QuEChERS(quick,easy,cheap,effective,rugged and safe) method for the extraction and clean-up of UV photoinitiators in packaged foods was *** quadrupole working in H-SRM on Ql mode was used for both quantitation and confirmation purposes and the most intense and selective transitions were *** parameters of the developed QuEChERS LC-MS/MS method were established and applied for the analysis of photoinitiators in food packaged at ng/kg levels.

Sequential Analysis is an effective detection procedure for spectrum sensing in Cognitive Radio (CR) Networks. On average, given PFA (probability of false alarm) and PMD and low SNR regime, it requires less independent samples for the primary users (PU) detection comparing to the Neyman-Pearson (NP) test. This paper deals with the evaluation of the cumulants of the distribution (PDF) of random time of the sequential analysis, however, for simplicity we consider only Gaussian approximation. It is assumed that the PU and secondary users (SU) are sharing the same frequency bandwidth and for spectrum sensing SU"s apply incoherent diversity combining of diversity branches with fading described by the Generalized Gaussian (GG) model.

Over the last several hundred years,donkeys have adapted to high-altitude conditions on the Tibetan ***,the kiang,a closely related equid species,also inhabits this *** reports have demonstrated the importance of specific genes and adaptive introgression in divergent lineages for adaptation to hypoxic conditions on the Tibetan ***,we assessed whether donkeys and kiangs adapted to the Tibetan Plateau via the same or different biological pathways and whether adaptive introgression has *** assembled a de novo genome from a kiang individual and analyzed the genomes of five kiangs and 93 donkeys(including 24 from the Tibetan Plateau).Our analyses suggested the existence of a strong hard selective sweep at the EPAS1 locus in *** Tibetan donkeys,however,another gene,i.e.,EGLN1,was likely involved in their adaptation to high *** addition,admixture analysis found no evidence for interspecific gene flow between kiangs and Tibetan *** findings indicate that despite the short evolutionary time scale since the arrival of donkeys on the Tibetan Plateau,as well as the existence of a closely related species already adapted to hypoxia,Tibetan donkeys did not acquire adaptation via admixture but instead evolved adaptations via a different biological pathway.

The injection of adjuvant substances for aesthetic purposes is a public health problem, for 40 years this problem has been described throughout our continent, the vast majority of women patients are affected by the infiltration of silicon, mineral oils, automotive oil, methyl methacrylate, cement and various oily substances. This is a 54-year-old female patient who for about 30 years for cosmetic purposes was injected with mineral oil (quantity unknown) in both glutei with the aim of buttock augmentation. Physical examination was observed an important deformity in each buttock, hyperkeratosis with discoloration in both buttocks, loss of bilateral projection, right buttock with a secondary tumor of 22 cm × 11 cm and left 22 cm × 10 cm, stony appearance, local hyperthermia, painful on manipulation, with diffuse nodular lesions measuring 2 cm × 2 cm, without evidence of loss of continuity that would condition secretion leakage. Surgical planning is based on the very important size of the initial defect that we would have to reconstruct, so that the rotation of two wide-based flaps could guarantee better survival and occlusion of the defect, since the realization of a graft would cause a significant deformity, and the realization of a microsurgical flap in a fibrous tissue would inevitably result in its necrosis. The pathophysiology of the adjuvant disease is extremely complex, therefore it must be addressed by a multidisciplinary group with extensive experience.

Effects of Ketoprofen, Ketamine, Lidocaine and Propofol on Fentanyl-Induced Hyperalgesia in Rats

Opioid-induced hyperalgesia negatively affects physiological pain management and presents a complex causal mechanism, involving, pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic factors of interactions with receptors, opioid-independent ascending systems and with pro-nociceptive systems. After approval by the CEUA, 42 male Wistar rats were divided into 7 groups: In group 1 (GCSSL) the animals received 1 ml of 0.9% saline solution intraperitoneally (IP);in group 2 (GFTSL), they received fentanyl at a dose of 100 ug·kg-1 IP;in the remaining groups (3, 4, 5, 6 and 7) the animals received IP, fentanyl at a dose of 100 ug·kg-1 followed also by IP route of: group 3 (GFTKP) ketoprofen at a dose of 5 mg·kg-1;group 4 GFTKT), ketamine up to a dose of 10.0 mg·kg-1;group 5 (GFTLI), incisional lidocaine up to a dose of 10 mg·kg-1;group 6 (GFTLP), intraperitoneal lidocaine up to a dose of 10 mg·kg-1 and group 7 (GFTPP), propofol up to a dose of 60 mg·kg-1. Under general anesthesia, all animals with a plantar surgical incision. Hyperalgesia was evaluated by applying Von Frey filaments on the 2nd, 1st, 3rd and 5th days after treatment. In the 2nd hour and on the 5th day after the procedure, there was no hyperalgesia associated with the use of fentanyl, however, on the 1st and 3rd postoperative days there was hyperalgesia that was attenuated by ketoprofen, ketamine, lidocaine infiltrated in the incision and intraperitoneally, an effect not observed with the use of propofol. The results suggest fentanyl-induced hyperalgesia and the efficacy of ketoprofen, ketamine, incisional lidocaine and intraperitoneal lidocaine in reducing this effect.
