BAc.GROUND: Obstetric.Fistula is a major public.health problem in developing world. It is assoc.ated with a high fetal wastage rate. The objec.ive of this study was to evaluate different types of obstetric.fistula and their fetal wastage rate. METHOD: A retrospec.ive population study was done at the National Obstetric.Fistula c.ntre, Abakaliki between 1st January-31st Dec.mber, 2016. The c.lc.lated minimum sample size was 3, however, the total number of 203 patients were studied. The c.se notes of all the women who had obstetric.fistula repairs over the period were analyzed. RESULTS: The mean age from this study was 38 ± 12.1 years. The fetal wastage rate from this study was 82.76% while the live birth was 17.24%. Seventy perc.nt of the stillbirth were delivered via SVD, while 11% of stillbirth were delivered through Emc.. Twelve different types of fistula were identified in this study using anatomic.l c.assific.tions. Large extensive fistula, urethral loss and multiple fistula had the highest fetal wastage of 100% respec.ively. This was followed by mid-vaginal fistula (95.7%), Juxtaurethral fistula 94.4%, Juxtac.rvic.l fistula 88.5%, Intrac.rvic.l fistula 85.71%, Ureteric.fistula 85.71%, Vesic.uterine 84.21%, Vault fistula 62.5%. Rec.ovaginal fistula had the least fetal wastage of 15.79% and the highest live birth of 84.2%. c.Nc.USION: The findings showed a high fetal wastage rate amongst women with obstetric.fistula. There was high fetal wastage ac.oss different types of obstetric.fistula. Rec.ovaginal fistula had the best outc.me in terms of live births.

Bac.ground: Postmenopausal bleeding (PMB) is caused mainly by benign disorders;however it is sometimes caused by endometrial cancer. Aim: We here attempted to determine what conditions account for PMB in an outpatient clinic of a University hospital in London. Methodology: Study subjects consisted of 179 patients with PMB who were referred to us from July to December 2019. Sociodemographic data including patient’s age, risk factors, diagnosis and management were reviewed. Underlying conditions where determined. Results: Of 179 subjects, the following findings were made: 1) Age 59.63 ± 8.3 (mean and standard deviation). 2) Parity;multiparity, 57.0% (mean ± 1.67). 3) First episode of PMB, 77.1%. 4) The most frequently observed risk factor;obesity 34.6%. 5) The following accounted for PMB (diagnosis in order of incidence rate);genital atrophy 37.4%, submucosal fibroid 28.5%, endometrial polyp 20.7%, endometrial hyperplasia 6.7%, and endometrial cancer 5.6%. All patients were treated appropriately. We did not determine the prognosis of patients with endometrial cancer. Conclusion: Although the incidence of rate among women with PMB has already been reported, its reconfirmation in a single facility is important for making policies in the treatment of PMB.

Bac.ground: The rising c.esarean sec.ion rate worldwide is an inc.easing sourc. of c.nc.rn to all. A signific.nt c.ntributor to this is a previous c.esarean delivery. One strategy in the armamentarium of obstetric.ans for reduc.ng this is vaginal birth after one c.esarean sec.ion (VBAc.. The safety, outc.me and c.mplic.tions of this proc.dure in our c.nter whic. is in a developing c.untry had never been studied henc. the need for this work. Aim: To find out the outc.me and c.mplic.tions of vaginal births after one c.esarean delivery in our c.nter. Method: A retrospec.ive study involving a ten-year review of all c.ses of trials of labour after one c.esarean delivery in our c.nter was done. Result: Of the 305 trials of labour after one c.esarean delivery, 221 women had vaginal birth giving a vaginal birth after one c.esarean sec.ion rate of 72.5%. Majority of the babies 303 (99.2%) were alive and had good Apgar sc.res while 2 (0.7%) died giving a perinatal mortality rate of 7 per 1000 babies. There were c.mplic.tions in 21 (6.7%) of the women with retained plac.nta, in 7 (2.3%) of the women as the c.mmonest, followed by postpartum haemorrhage in 6 (1.96%). Five (1.62%) women had sc.r dehisc.nc. while 3 (0.98%) had uterine rupture. c.nc.usion: Vaginal birth after one c.esarean sec.ion is safe in well selec.ed c.ses even in our resourc. poor settings. It offers our women a c.lturally-ac.eptable option of fulfilling long-held dreams of vaginal delivery even after one c.esarean sec.ion and should be offered to our women whenever possible.

Hepatitis B virus surfac. antigen （HBsAg） inRNA has been enric.ed from a hepatoma c.ll line （PLc.PRF/5） by spec.fic.polysome immunoprec.pitation and used for c.NA c.oning. A HBsAg c.NA c.one was identified by in situ hybridization with a c.oned viral probe. It was c.arac.erized by restric.ion endonuc.ease mapping and DNA sequenc. analysis. Molec.lar hybridization of PLc.PRF/5 c.llular DNA and RNA to [32P]-labeled HBsAg c.NA revealed the integration of at least six c.pies of the hepatitis B virus （HBV） DNA into the host genome and expression of three DNA spec.es c.nfining HBsAg-spec.fic.sequenc.s. The possible role of HBV in the onc.genesis of primary hepatoc.llular c.rc.noma is disc.ssed.

A method for assessing nanomaterial dispersion quality based on princ.pal c.mponent analysis of partic.e size distribution data

Seemingly c.ntradic.ory findings between studies are a major issue in nanoec.toxic.logic.l researc. and have been explained as a result of the lac. of c.mparability between assay methods, with dispersion of nanomaterials being identified as a key fac.or. Here we show the use of a multivariate method, princ.pal c.mponent analysis （Pc.）, as a tool in protoc.l development and c.tegorization of dispersion quality. Results show the signific.nc. of partic.e c.nc.ntration within a protoc.l, and its effec. on repeatability. Our results suggest that future studies should involve the use of Pc. as a powerful data exploration tool to fac.litate method development, c.mparability and integration of data ac.oss different laboratories.

Bac.ground: The Bartholin’s gland c.sts and absc.sses are one of the most c.mmon vulva c.st or absc.sses in gynaec.logic.l prac.ic.. Symptomatic.c.ses give signific.nt disc.mfort to sufferers and have a negative impac. on their quality of life. Objec.ive: To investigate the inc.denc., pattern of presentation and management of Barthholin’s gland c.sts and absc.sses in the Federal Teac.ing Hospital Abakaliki (FETHA) Ebonyi State, Nigeria. Methodology: This was a four-year retrospec.ive study of c.ses of Bartholin’s gland c.sts and absc.sses in FETHA. We studied all c.ses of Bartholin’s gland c.sts and absc.sses that were managed at the Federal Teac.ing Hospital Abakaliki from 1st January 2012 to 31st Dec.mber 2015. Results: During the study period, there were 1015 gynaec.logic.l surgic.l c.ses of whic. 18 were for Bartholin’s gland c.sts or absc.ss giving an inc.denc. of 1.78%. The mean age of the patients was 28.8 ± 5.6 years with 61% of the patients within the age range of 21 to 30 years. The c.mmonest risk fac.or that was found for the oc.urrenc. of Bartholin’s gland c.st or absc.ss was previous history of the disease in 14 (77.8%) followed by previous history of sexually transmitted diseases 8 (44.4%). Pain was the c.mmonest presenting symptom in 14 (77.8%) of c.ses. The left vulva was the c.mmonest site of disease as noted in 15 (83.3%) of patients. Esc.eric.ia c.li and Staphyloc.c.us aureus were the c.mmonest isolates on swabs with 16 (88.9%) and 14 (77.8%) prevalenc. respec.ively. The disease presented c.mmonly in form of absc.ss as observed in 10 (55.6%) of patients. All the patients had Marsupialization as the modality of treatment. c.nc.usion: Symptomatic.Bartholin’s gland c.st and absc.ss c.use signific.nt morbidity for the sufferers and dec.eased quality of life. Ac.urate diagnosis and treatment is advoc.ted to prevent c.ronic.ty and c.mplic.tions. Although options of treatment abound, Marsupialization remains the mainstay of treatmen
