This work investigates the perform.nce of com.ined hybrid high concentrated photovoltaic/therm.l collector (HCPV/T) in Kuwait harsh clim.te. The proposed system.consists of triple junction solar cells (InGaP/InGaAs/Ge) attached to heat source to discharge therm.l energy to cooling m.dia. Published HCPV/T m.dels do not consider the effect of shunt resistance which greatly affects the system.perform.nce. So, a single diode m.del em.loying five param.ters including the effect of shunt resistance is adapted to analyze the proposed system. To analyze the therm.l perform.nce of the proposed system. a two-dim.nsional therm.l m.del based on the technique of finite difference is introduced to determ.ne the efficiency of the hybrid HCPV/T system. The present developed subroutines are integrated with other involved codes in TRNSYS software to calculate HCPV/T system.efficiency. Electrical and therm.l as well as the whole system.efficiency at different weather circum.tances are evaluated and assessed. The effect of different weather conditions, cell tem.erature, concentration ratio and the tem.eratures of the coolant fluid on system.perform.nce are studied. Current results indicate that the m.del of single diode is a reliable one rather than using the two-diode com.lex m.del. Com.ared to m.asurem.nts provided by high concentrated PV m.nufacturer, the current results revealed a total root m.an square error of approxim.tely 1.94%. Present predictions show that PV cell tem.erature has logarithm.c increase with the rise in concentration ratio but with low values till concentration ratio of 400 suns after that the rise is faster at higher concentration values up to 1500 suns. Results also revealed that hybrid HCPV/T system.works effectively specially in severe hot clim.te where therm.l efficiency increases with high surrounding tem.erature for higher values of concentration ratio. This study examines the correlation between solar UVB and different weather parameters in Kuwait climate. To achieve that purpose, an experimental outdoor facility is designed and set up at the College of Technological Studies, Kuwait for regular monitoring of solar global radiation, UVB radiation and ambient temperature in Kuwait from beginning of January 1st 2014 until the end of December 2019. Outcomes reveal that the change of solar UVB as well as global radiation through the whole day inaugurate the same behavior for the recorded data in clear day times. Statistical analysis is carried out to obtain a correlation linking UVB radiation and both ambient temperature and global solar radiation. Regression analysis of the current work shows that there is a solid correlation among UVB radiation and both ambient temperature and global solar radiation, especially for intermediate to small global solar radiation ranges. In addition, UV index is evaluated for various months at all day times. It is important to record that UV index with the maximum values is attained in May-August months through midday period. Also, UV index values do not surpass the accepted extreme value which is higher than 9 during any time of the study period.

Objectives:We aim.d to evaluate the effect of percutaneous atrial septal defect(ASD)closure in children using right heart indices and serum.galectin-3(Gal-3),as potential biom.rkers of right heart ***:This case–control prospective study included 40 children with ASD and 25 control *** echocardiographic evaluation was perform.d before the procedure,as well as 24 h,1 m.nth,and 6 m.nths after *** Gal-3 was m.asured before,and 1 m.nth after the ***:Serum.Gal-3 concentration,right atrial(RA)dim.nsions,right ventricular(RV)dim.nsions,indexed RA area,and right index of m.ocardial perform.nce(RIm.)were significantly increased in children with ASD com.ared with control subjects while tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion(TAPSE)was significantly *** m.nths after closure,RA,and RV dim.nsions significantly decreased and RVfunction im.roved(RIm. decreased and TAPSE increased).Gal-3 oncentration significantly decreased 1 m.nth after ASD closure,but it did not reach norm.l range com.ared with control subjects.A positive correlation between Gal-3 and age at closure,RA area,RV dim.nsions,and RIm. was observed.A positive correlation was observed between the decrease in Gal-3 concentration and the decrease in RA area and RV dim.nsions 1 m.nth after ASD closure.A significant negative correlation was observed between TAPSE and Gal-3 concentration before and after ***:Percutaneous ASD closure can im.rove right-sided indices and decrease serum.Gal-3 ***-3 can be used as a sensitive biom.rker of right heart rem.deling,with a decrease in Gal-3 concentration suggesting reversal of m.ladaptive rem.deling.

Selective cyclooxygenase-2 （COX-2） inhibitors are widely used due to their efficacy and good safety profile. However, recent case reports have described varying degrees of liver injudes associated with the use of COX-2 inhibitors. We report the case of a patient who developed acute cholestatic hepatitis progressing to hepatic failure requiring liver transplantation, following a 3-d course of celecoxib for treatm.nt of generalized m.scle aches and pains. The clinical presentation, the laboratory data, as well as the liver histopathology were supportive of the putative diagnosis of drug induced liver injury.

Lactic acid bacteria possess several interesting properties of great econom.c im.ortance. Im.rovem.nt and stabilization of these industrially im.ortant features are an active research area at the present tim.. The objectives of this work are to study the effect of freezing and freeze-drying on the survival rate, autolytic activity and intracellular enzym.tic activity of the m.in species of lactic acid bacteria used in the dairy industry. The article focused on several characteristics that were not well covered in the past. The obtained results revealed that both preservation m.thods have a significant effect on viability, autolytic activity and intracellular enzym.tic activity. After six m.nths of storage we found that frozen cultures exhibited higher survival rate, higher rate of intracellular enzym.tic activity and lower rate of autolysis. The im.act of conservation treatm.nts was only strain specific in the case of survival rate. The results obtained lead to the selection of the best preservation m.thod for the selected cultures based on survival rate, autolytic activity and intracellular enzym.tic activity.

Herein, the fabrication of cellulose acetate (CA) silica-based nanocom.osite m.m.ranes via the dry-wetphase inversion procedure for water desalination was investigated. The m.dified and unm.dified silicananoparticles (m.NPs and SNPs) were prepared by the sol-gel technique. The effect of the SNPs andm.NPs was investigated on the CA m.m.rane's properties and their perform.nce for water *** CA nanocom.osite m.m.ranes were characterized to study their structure, hydrophilicity, andm.rphology. The fabricated nanocom.osite m.m.ranes showed hydrophilic surface properties. Theperform.nce of reverse osm.sis (RO) m.m.ranes was m.asured using a crossflow RO unit at 10 bar(1 bar = 0.1 m.a). The m.m.rane with 10 m. of SNPs enhanced perm.ate water flux com.ared to thepristine CA m.m.rane by 1.6 L/(m.·h). The effect of m.NPs on the nanocom.osites' perform.nce waslower than their counterpart in the case of adding SNPs. The m.m.rane with 30 m. of m.NPs showedthe highest perm.ate water flux am.ng other nanocom.osite m.m.ranes with a value oAQSf 35.7 L/(m.·h)at 24 bar.

This work investigates the effects of tem.erature and radiation intensity on the param.ters of a copper indium.diselenide (CIS) photovoltaic m.dule. The m.dule perform.nce param.ters are determ.ned from.calculated m.dule param.ters. An outdoor experim.ntal setup is installed to carryout a series of I-V curve m.asurem.nts under different irradiance and tem.erature conditions for the m.dule. A num.rical m.del which considers the effect of series and shunt resistances is developed to evaluate the different param.ters of PV m.dules. Orthogonal distance regression (ODR) algorithm.is adapted for fitting I-V m.asurem.nts and extracting m.dule param.ters from.I-V m.asurem.nts. The values of m.dule param.ters, series resistance Rs, shunt resistance Rsh, diode ideality factor n and reverse saturation current Io determ.ned from.I-V m.asurem.nts at different irradiation intensity and tem.erature range are in good agreem.nt with the corresponding param.ters obtained from.the developed num.rical m.del. The m.dule param.ters extracted from.I-V m.asurem.nts are em.loyed to calculate the m.dule perform.nce param.ters, i.e. open circuit voltage Voc, fill factor FF and m.dule efficiency η at different irradiation intensity and tem.erature range. Present results indicate that the largest drop in open circuit voltage Voc due to about 20℃ increase in tem.erature is approxim.tely 8.8% which is not com.ensated for by the relatively sm.ll increase in short circuit current, (2.9% in Isc), resulting in a reduction in m.xim.m.power of about 6.3%. Results let us conclude that the shunt resistance RSh increases with radiation at low radiation values (2). As radiation increases at high radiation values (> 400 W/m.), RSh begins to decease sharply and dram.tically. Also, as the light intensity incident on the solar m.dule increases, the series resistance and the output voltage decrease. High concentrated PV m.lti-junction solar cells (HCPV) likely present a favorable alternative to achieve low cost of energy. However, m.lti-junction solar cell has different characteristics which should be settled before they can be adapted for large scale energy generation. Peak energy consum.tion in Kuwait usually occurs in periods of utilizing air conditioning system. which are essentially used in alm.st all year around in harsh clim.te like Kuwait. Power consum.d at peak tim.s is m.re costly than power needed to satisfy loads at regular consum.tion tim.s. The m.in goal of the present research is to increase HCPV solar cells’ efficiency, to decrease m.xim.m.power cost in Kuwait. m.lti-junction solar cells perform.nce in weather conditions of Kuwait is investigated em.loying a single diode equivalent circuit m.del. The m.del developed considers the im.acts of concentration ratio as well as tem.erature. m.st research in literature review usually neglects shunt resistance of the diode, however this resistance is taken into consideration in current developed theoretical m.del. To calibrate the present m.del, current predictions are com.ared with corresponding m.asured data provided by m.lti-junction solar cell m.nufacturer. The total root m.an square errors in the present m.del predictions are about 1.8%. This m.ans that current developed m.del of single diode m.del which takes into account shunt resistance im.acts gives precise and reliable data. HCP electrical efficiency is noticed to rise as concentration increases but to a certain concentration value, then it begins to decrease. In addition, utilizing HCPV linked to grid satisfies great decrease in m.xim.m.load. Power produced from.HCPV m.dules is utilized to provide energy needs to a fam.ly in norm.l Kuwaiti fam.ly hom. to evaluate HCPV environm.ntal effects.
