Asian Americans have better outcomes of non-metastatic gastric cancer compared to other United States racial groups: A secondary analysis from a randomized study

BACKGROUND It has been recognized for a long time that gastric cancer behavior and outcomes might be different between patients living in Asian countries vs patients living in Western *** is not clear if these differences would persist between patients of Asian ancestry and patients of other racial subgroups within the multiethnic communities of North *** current study hypothesizes that these differences will present within North American multiethnic *** To evaluate the impact of race on survival outcomes of non-metastatic gastric cancer patients in the United *** This is a secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial(CALGB 80101 study)that evaluated two adjuvant chemoradiotherapy schedules following resection of non-metastatic gastric ***-Meier analysis and log-rank testing were utilized to explore the overall and disease-free survival differences according to the race of the *** and multivariate Cox regression analyses were then used to explore factors affecting overall and disease-free *** A total of 546 patients were included in the current *** which,73.8%have white race(vs 12.8%black Americans and 8.2% Asian Americans).Using Kaplan-Meier analysis/log-rank testing,Asian Americans appear to have better overall and disease-free survival outcomes compared to other United States racial groups(White Americans,Black Americans,and other racial groups)(P=0.011;P=0.010;respectively).Moreover,in an adjusted multivariate model,Asian American race seems to be associated with better overall and disease-free survival(hazard ratio:0.438;95% confidence interval:0.254-0.754),P=0.003;(hazard ratio:0.460;95% confidence interval:0.280-0.755,P=0.002;respectively).CONCLUSION Asian American patients with non-metastatic gastric cancer have better overall and disease-free survival compared to other racial groups in the United *** preclinical and clinical research is needed to clarif

Optimization of Reliability–Redundancy Allocation Problems: A Review of the Evolutionary Algorithms

The study of optimization methods for reliability–redundancy allocation problems is a constantly changing *** algorithms are continually being designed on the basis of observations of nature,wildlife,and *** this paper,we review eight major evolutionary algorithms that emulate the behavior of civilization,ants,bees,fishes,and birds(i.e.,genetic algorithms,bee colony optimization,simulated annealing,particle swarm optimization,biogeography-based optimization,artificial immune system optimization,cuckoo algorithm and imperialist competitive algorithm).We evaluate the mathematical formulations and pseudo-codes of each algorithm and discuss how these apply to reliability–redundancy allocation *** from a literature survey show the best results found for series,series–parallel,bridge,and applied case problems(e.g.,overspeeding gas turbine benchmark).Review of literature from recent years indicates an extensive improvement in the algorithm reliability ***,this improvement has been difficult to achieve for high-reliability *** and future challenges in reliability–redundancy allocation problems optimization are also discussed in this paper.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic was partially due to the challenge of identifying asymptomatic and presymptomatic carriers of the virus, and thus highlights a strong motivation for diagnostics with high sensitivity that can be rapidly deployed. On the other hand, several concerning SARS-Co V-2 variants,including Omicron, are required to be identified as soon as the samples are identified as ‘positive’.Unfortunately, a traditional PCR test does not allow their specific identification. Herein, for the first time,we have developed MOPCS(Methodologies of Photonic CRISPR Sensing), which combines an optical sensing technology-surface plasmon resonance(SPR) with the ‘gene scissors’ clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat(CRISPR) technique to achieve both high sensitivity and specificity when it comes to measurement of viral variants. MOPCS is a low-cost, CRISPR/Cas12a-systemempowered SPR gene-detecting platform that can analyze viral RNA, without the need for amplification,within 38 min from sample input to results output, and achieve a limit of detection of 15 fM. MOPCS achieves a highly sensitive analysis of SARS-Co V-2, and mutations appear in variants B.1.617.2(Delta),B.1.1.529(Omicron) and BA.1(a subtype of Omicron). This platform was also used to analyze some recently collected patient samples from a local outbreak in China, identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This innovative CRISPR-empowered SPR platform will further contribute to the fast, sensitive and accurate detection of target nucleic acid sequences with single-base mutations.

Applications of synchrophasor technologies in power systems

Synchrophasors are time-synchronized electrical measurements that represent both the magnitude and phase angle of the electrical sinusoids. Synchrophasors are measured by fast time-stamped devices called phasor measurement units(PMUs) to constitute the basis of realtime monitoring and control actions in the electric *** to its enhanced situational awareness capabilities,many applications of PMUs are presented in the literature in the past decades. This paper presents a comprehensive summary of synchrophasor technology, its architecture,optimal placement techniques and its applications in electric power transmission and distribution systems. These applications include wide-area situational awareness and monitoring, state estimation, fault location and protective relaying, islanding detection etc. This review also covers some of the existing challenges in its implementation and its potential applications.

In this paper,we present an attempt at analyzing the seasonal pattern of the Babesiosis transmission dynamics in bovine and tick *** infestation rate plays an important role in the variation of *** this logic,we set out a mathematical model with variable infestation rate for the evolution of babesiosis *** the(0,2)-Jacobi multi-wavelets method combined with the decoupling and quasi-linearization technique,we demonstrate the validity and applicability of our ***,a set of experimental data is used to validate the proposed model under the same operating *** results of numerical simulations are provided to show the impact of seasonality on the transmission dynamics of ***,a numerical study of the model varying the control parameters of babesiosis shows different scenarios about the spread of the disease.

Doppler ultrasonography in living donor liver transplantation recipients: Intra- and post-operative vascular complications

Living-donor liver transplantation has provided a solution to the severe lack of cadaver grafts for the replacement of liver afflicted with end-stage cirrhosis, fulminant disease, or inborn errors of metabolism. Vascular complications remain the most serious complications and a common cause for graft failure after hepatic transplantation. Doppler ultrasound remains the primary radiological imaging modality for the diagnosis of such complications. This article presents a brief review of intra- and post-operative living donor liver transplantation anatomy and a synopsis of the role of ultrasonography and color Doppler in evaluating the graft vascular haemodynamics both during surgery and post-operatively in accurately defining the early vascular complications. Intra-operative ultrasonography of the liver graft provides the surgeon with useful real-time diagnostic and staging information that may result in an alteration in the planned surgical approach and corrections of surgical complications during the procedure of vascular anastomoses. The relevant intraoperative anatomy and the spectrum of normal and abnormal findings are described. Ultrasonography and color Doppler also provides the clinicians and surgeons early post-operative potential developmental complications that may occur during hospital stay. Early detection and thus early problem solving can make the difference between graft survival and failure.

The development of carbon nanotubes based materials has been impeded by both their difficult dispersion in the polymer matrix and their high cost. The discovery of graphene and the subsequent development of graphene-based polymer nanocomposites is an important addition in the area of nanoscience and technology. In this study the influence of graphene nanoparticles (GNP) in concentrations from 2.0 to 10.0 phr on the dielectric (dielectric permittivity, dielectric loss angle tangent) and microwave (reflection coefficient, attenuation coefficient, shielding effectiveness) properties of nanocomposites on the basis of natural rubber has been investigated in the wide frequency range (1 - 12 GHz). The results achieved allow recommending graphene as a filler for natural rubber based composites to afford specific dielectric and microwave properties, especially when their loading with the much more expensive carbon nanotubes is not possible.
