The role of oxidative stress in female reproduction is becoming increasingly important, as recent evidence suggests that it has been implicated in the pathology of infertility of both known and idiopathic origin. Although its efficacy has yet to be well established, supplementation with antioxidants is a new tool being developed in the therapeutic armamentarium for female-factor infertility. We present a case of a spontaneous viable pregnancy in a 37-year-old patient with a history of two consequent In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) failures, occurring after a 5-month antioxidant treatment. This report suggests that oral antioxidants supplementation in female patients may provide an alternative or adjunct to conventional fertility therapies and improve their chances of becoming pregnant.

Background: Considerable evidence points towards a significant role of oxidative stress (OS) in the pathogenesis of sperm dysfunction. OS as a result of an inappropriate balance between oxidants and antioxidants in the semen can cause DNA damage and lipid peroxidation leading to failure of conception, miscarriage or potentially even childhood cancer. The objective of this study was to investigate whether a male antioxidant therapy can improve semen parameters and the results of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Methods: A total of forty eight infertile couples were considered. Male participants were administrated Fertimax2 antioxidant treatment for at least two months prior to their partner’s IVF-ICSI cycle. Sperm parameters (volume, concentration, progressive motility) and the IVF-ICSI outcomes were compared before and after the antioxidant treatment. The primary outcome measures were oocyte fertilization, cleavage and good embryo quality rates;the secondary outcomes were biochemical pregnancies, clinical pregnancies and implantation rates. Results: The principal finding that emerged from this study was that antioxidant therapy resulted in significant improvements in fertilization (p = 00.2), cleavage (p = 0.004) and good-embryo quality (p = 0.002) rates accompanied by a marked increase in clinical pregnancy (18.7% versus 2.5%) and implantation (11.8% versus 1.02%) rates. No significant changes in routine sperm parameters were observed. Conclusion: The Fertimax2 antioxidant therapy appears to influence favorably chances of conception in couples undergoing assisted reproduction treatment (ART).

In this paper, the problem of hybrid model predictive control(HMPC) strategy based on fuzzy supervisor for piecewise autoregressive with exogenous input(PWARX) models is addressed. We first represent the nonlinear behavior of the system with a PWARX model. Then, we transform the obtained PWARX model into a mixed logical dynamic(MLD) model in order to apply the proposed predictive control which is able to stabilize such systems along desired reference trajectories while satisfying operating ***, we propose to introduce a fuzzy supervisor allowing the readjustment of the HMPC tuning parameters in order to maintain the desired performance. Simulation and experimental results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

This article investigates identical parallel machines scheduling with family setup times. The objective function being the weighted sum of completion times, the problem is known to be strongly NP-hard. We propose a constructive heuristic algorithm and three complementary lower bounds. Two of these bounds proceed by elimination of setup times or by distributing each of them to jobs of the corresponding family, while the third one is based on a lagrangian relaxation. The bounds and the heuristic are incorporated into a branch-and-bound algorithm. Experimental results obtained outperform those of the methods presented in previous works, in term of size of solved problems.

A series of phosphorus-modified titanium dioxide samples with varying P/Ti atomic ratio were conveniently prepared via a conventional solgel route. The effects of phosphorus content and calcination temperature on the crystalline structure, grain growth, surface area, and the photocatalytic activity of P-modified TiO2 were investigated. The XRD results showed that P species slow down the particle growth of anatase and increase the anatase-to-rutile phase transformation temperature to more than 900°C. Kinetic studies on the P-modified TiO2 to degraded 4-chlorophenol had found that the TP5500 prepared by adopting a P/Ti atomic ratio equal to 0.05 and calcined at 500°C had an apparent rate constant equal to 0.0075 min 1, which is superior to the performance of a commercial photocatalyst Degussa P25 Kapp = 0.0045 min 1 and of unmodified TiO2 （TP0500） Kapp = 0.0022 min 1. From HPLC analyses, various hydroxylated intermediates formed during oxidation had been identified, including hydroquinone （HQ）, benzoquinone （BQ） and （4CC） 4-chlorocatechol as main products. Phytotoxicity was assessed before and after irradiation against seed germination of tomato （Lycopersicon esculentum） whereas acute toxicity was assessed by using Folsomia candida as the test organism. Intermediates products were all less toxic than 4-chlorophenol and a significant removal of the overall toxicity was accomplished

Droughts and soil erosion are among the most prominent climatic driven hazards in drylands,leading to detrimental environmental impacts,such as degraded lands,deteriorated ecosystem services and biodiversity,and increased greenhouse gas *** response to the current lack of studies combining drought conditions and soil erosion processes,in this study,we developed a comprehensive Geographic Information System(GIS)-based approach to assess soil erosion and droughts,thereby revealing the relationship between soil erosion and droughts under an arid *** vegetation condition index(VCI)and temperature condition index(TCI)derived respectively from the enhanced vegetation index(EVI)MOD13A2 and land surface temperature(LST)MOD11A2 products were combined to generate the vegetation health index(VHI).The VHI has been conceived as an efficient tool to monitor droughts in the Negueb watershed,southeastern *** revised universal soil loss equation(RUSLE)model was applied to quantitatively estimate soil *** relationship between soil erosion and droughts was investigated through Pearson *** exhibited that the Negueb watershed experienced recurrent mild to extreme drought during 2000–*** average soil erosion rate was determined to be 1.8 t/(hm2•a).The mountainous western part of the watershed was the most vulnerable not only to soil erosion but also to *** slope length and steepness factor was shown to be the most significant controlling parameter driving soil *** relationship between droughts and soil erosion had a positive correlation(r=0.3);however,the correlation was highly varied spatially across the *** was linked to soil erosion in the Negueb *** current study provides insight for natural disaster risk assessment,land managers,and stake-holders to apply appropriate management measures to promote sustainable development goals in fragile environments.

In this paper, we present a new sufficient condition for absolute stability of Lure system with two additive time-varying delay components. This criterion is expressed as a set of linear matrix inequalities （LMIs）, which can be readily tested by using standard numerical software. We use this new criterion to stabilize a class of nonlinear time-delay systems. Some numerical examples are given to illustrate the applicability of the results using standard numerical software.
