Sedimentological and foraminiferal paleoecological studies were carried out for the Oligocene-Miocene Ogwashi-Asaba Formation of the Anambra Basin at the Issele-Uku area in southern Nigeria,to reconstruct *** pattern of rock successions and textural characteristics suggest the prevalence of fluvio-deltaic setting during the formation of lignites and clastic rocks of Ogwashi-Asaba *** benthic foraminiferal species such as Ammotium sp.,Textularia sp.,Gavelinella sp.,Milliamina sp.,Reophax sp.,Bolivina sp.,Eponides sp.,Pseudobolivina *** Lenticulina *** the shale units whereas the planktonic forms are *** these species have very low population and diversity in the shales,which could be due to the presence of harsh conditions such as low oxygen level and scarcity of food,leading to poor *** assessments of benthic foraminifera's habitat suggest middle-to-inner neritic marine environment for the *** results suggest fluvial environment for the sandstone and deltaic for the *** Ogwashi-Asaba Formation in Issele-Uku area of Anambra Basin,southern Nigeria,therefore,have records of shallow marine,and fluvio-deltaic paleoenvironments.

The global burden of chronic kidney diseases(CKDs)kept increasing,and it is a leading cause of mortality and morbidity rate in most African *** burden of CKD is felt more in developing countries where there is no adequate social security system or health insurance to meet the huge financial demands the disease places on its sufferers and their *** is also noted that this disease affects the economically productive age group unlike in developed countries where the elderly are more *** prevalence of CKD was found to be highly related to age,gender,hypertension,obesity,history of diabetes mellitus,use of herbal medicines,and prolonged use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in *** majority of CKD cases were not clinically recognized promptly,mainly because of the lack of patients’awareness about CKD and associated risk ***,health awareness should be intensified by the nurses on lifestyle modification by individuals at risk of CKD,prompt management,good compliance with prescribed medications,avoidance of self-medication,and indiscriminate use of over-the-counter *** addition to that,nurses also need to advocate for regular population screening,and efforts should be made at all levels of care to reduce the negative impact of the disease and complications on the patients.

Objective We performed a segmentation analysis of the unvaccinated adult US population to identify sociodemographic and psychographic characteristics of those who were vaccine accepting,vaccine unsure and vaccine *** *** Nationally representative,web-based *** 211303 participants aged≥18 years were asked in the Household Pulse Survey conducted during 1 December 2021 to 7 February 2022,whether they had ever received a COVID-19 *** answering‘No’were asked their receptivity to the vaccine and their responses were categorised as vaccine averse,unsure and *** prevalence ratios(APR)were calculated in separate multivariable Poisson regression models to evaluate the correlation of the three vaccine *** Overall,15.2%of US adults were unvaccinated during 1 December 2021 to 7 February 2022,ranging from 5.8%in District of Columbia to 29.0%in *** the entire unvaccinated population nationwide,51.0%were vaccine averse,35.0%vaccine unsure and 14.0%vaccine *** likelihood of vaccine aversion was higher among those self-employed(APR=1.11,95%CI 1.02 to 1.22)or working in a private company(APR=1.09,95%CI 1.01 to 1.17)than those unemployed;living in a detached,single-family house than in a multiunit apartment(APR=1.15,95%CI 1.04 to 1.26);and insured by Veterans Affairs/Tricare than uninsured(APR=1.22,95%CI 1.01 to 1.47).Reasons for having not yet received a vaccine differed among those vaccine accepting,unsure and *** percentage reporting logistical or access-related barriers to getting a vaccine(eg,difficulty getting a vaccine,or perceived cost of the vaccine)was relatively higher than those vaccine *** vaccine unsure reported the highest prevalence of barriers related to perceived safety/effectiveness,including wanting to‘wait and see’if the vaccines were safe(45.2%)and uncertainty whether the vaccines would be effective in protecting them from COVID-19(29.6%).Tho

Background Administrative data are frequently used in stroke *** accurate identification of patients who had an ischaemic stroke,and those receiving thrombolysis and endovascular thrombectomy(EVT)is critical to ensure representativeness and *** examined differences in patient samples based on mode of identification,and propose a strategy for future patient and procedure identification in large administrative *** We used non-public administrative data from the state of California to identify all patients who had an ischaemic stroke discharged from an emergency department(ED)or inpatient hospitalisation from 2010 to 2017 based on International Classification of Disease(ICD-9)(2010-2015),ICD-10(2015-2017)and Medicare Severity-Diagnosis-related Group(MS-DRG)discharge *** identified patients with interhospital transfers,patients receiving thrombolytics and patients treated with EVT based on ICD,Current Procedural Terminology(CPT)and MS-DRG *** determined what proportion of these transfers and procedures would have been identified with ICD versus MS-DRG discharge *** Of 365099 ischaemic stroke encounters,most(87.70%)had both a stroke-related ICD-9 or ICD-10 code and stroke-related MS-DRG code;12.28% had only an ICD-9 or ICD-10 code and 0.02% had only an MS-DRG *** all transfers(99.99%)were identified using ICD *** identified 32433 thrombolytic-treated patients(8.9% of total)using ICD,CPT and MS-DRG codes;the combination of ICD and CPT codes identified nearly all(98%).We identified 7691 patients treated with EVT(2.1%of total)using ICD and MS-DRG codes;both MS-DRG and ICD-9/ICD-10 codes were necessary because ICD codes alone missed 13.2%of *** codes only pertain to outpatient/ED patients and are not useful for EVT *** ICD-9/ICD-10 diagnosis codes capture nearly all ischaemic stroke encounters and transfers,while the combination of ICD-9/ICD-10 and CPT codes are adequate

Wetlands are among the world＇s most productive environment. They are cradles of bio-diversity, providing the water and primary productivity upon which large numbers of plant and animal species depend for survival. Unfortunately, they are also among the world＇s most threatened ecosystems, owing mainly to continued drainage, urbanization, pollution, over-exploitation or other unsustainable uses of their resources. The lack of baseline wetland inventory and limited accessibility to the available ones have been identified as major limitations for sustainable use and management of wetland resources. This study therefore utilized multispectral remote sensing data and global positioning system （GPS） for mapping and assessing the spatial pattern of wetlands, particularly the cultivated ones. The images were processed using ILWIS 3.2 Academic. The combined digital image processing and visual image interpretation were used to identify and segment wetlands in the image data. The coordinates of all identified wetlands and various anthropogenic activities on them were taken using GPS. Questionnaire forms were designed and randomly administered on the households residing around the wetland areas to enable the study to assess the anthropogenic factors, which are capable of destroying the ecosystem. The result indicated that the original size of wetlands in the study area has been modified as there has been reduction in their area extent. Various anthropogenic factors such as, the conversion of wetlands to agricultural, residential and commercial land uses were majorly responsible for the modification. In conclusion, remote sensing data and GIS technology were found useful in mapping and assessing wetlands for sustainable use.

Hepatic and reproductive toxicity of sub-chronic exposure to dichlorvos and lead acetate on male Wistar rats

Objective:To investigate the hepatic and reproductive toxicity of dichlorvos and lead acetate on male Wistar ***:Fifteen adult male Wistar rats(170-190 g)were randomly divided into three groups,with 5 rats in each *** 1 received 0.5 mL distilled water orally and served as the control group,while groups 2 and 3 were orally treated with 2 mg/kg body weight(b.w.)dichlorvos and 10 mg/kg *** acetate,respectively,for 55 *** sperm,serum follicle stimulating hormone(FSH),luteinizing hormone(LH),testosterone concentrations,testicular 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase activity(17β-HSD),androgen receptor expression,aspartate aminotransferase(AST),alanine aminotransferase(ALT),testicular oxidant and antioxidant enzymes were evaluated with standard ***:Sperm count,motility,morphology,FSH,LH,testosterone levels,17β-HSD,androgen receptor expression,and catalase activity were significantly reduced in the dichlorvos and lead acetate treated groups as compared with the control group(P<0.05).The liver AST,ALT activities and malondialdehyde concentration were significantly increased in the dichlorvos and lead acetate treated groups as compared with the control group(P<0.05).Conclusions:The reproductive and hepatic toxicity activities of dichlorvos and lead acetate in male Wistar rats are similar.

The paper examined the state of GIS （geographic information systems） knowledge and adoption in Nigeria, identified factors affecting its implementation and finally discussed methods of enhancing its use in Nigeria. Administrative records of some institutions and information obtained from published articles in journals and text books were used for the study. Records indicate that GIS is relatively young in Nigeria and in terms of development, it is at its youthful stage. The adoption and use of GIS is low at both Federal and State Government levels. However, factors such as, lack of political will, shortage of experts to train the professionals, lack of standardization of digital data, database development and management problems, institutional constraints, security implications of digital maps and poor funding have been inhibiting full adoption, implementation and use of GIS in Nigeria. There is the need to develop a GIS vision in the country and government should formulate policy and create enabling environment for the adoption and implementation of the new technology.

Potentials of Cellular Vortex Element Modeling of Fluid Flow in Confined 2D Aquifer

Numerical methods such as finite difference, finite volume, finite element or hybrid methods have been globally used to successfully study fluid flow in porous stratum of which aquifers are typical examples. Those methods involve mathematical expressions which increases computation time with requirement of specific human expertise. In this paper, numerical models for single phase flow in 1D and 2D using the conservation of mass principles, Darcy＇s flow equation, equation of state, continuity equation and the STB/CFB （stock tank barrel/cubic feet barrel） balance were developed. The models were then recast into pressure vorticity equations using convectional algorithms. Derived equations were used to formulate transport equations which resemble the conventional vorticity transport equation. Formulated numerical models were used to investigate the daily instantaneous aquifer pressure drawdowns and pressure heads for 365 days. The developed equations were subsequently solved using cellular vortex element technique. The developed computer program was used to investigate confined aquifer of dimensions 10× 10 × 75 m with single vertex image. For the aquifer rate of 0.5 m3/s, 0.1 m3/s, 0.15 m3/s, 0.2 m3/s, 0.25 m3/s, 1.0 m3/s, 2.0 m3/s, 2.5 m3/s, 3.0 m3/s, 4.0 m3/s, the respective average head drawdowns and heads were, 1.127 ±0.0141 m, 1.317 ±0.0104 m, 1.412± 0.0041 m, 1.427 ± 0.116 m,1.527 ± 0.0141 m, 2.107 ± 0.0171 m, 2.197 ±0.0191 m, 3.007±0.0171 m, 3.127 ± 0.0041 m, 3.626 ± 0.0121 m, and 25 kN/m2, 35 kN/m2, 33 kN/m2, 5 kN/m2, 6 kN/m2, 11 kN/m2, 25 kN/m2, 42 kN/m2, 50 kN/m2, 62 kN/m2, respectively. Cellular vortex technique with relative little mathematics has been established to have recorded successes in numerical modeling of fluid flow in aquifer simulation.

This work reports a method for reducing the longevity of the polymer content of Municipal Solid Wastes (MSW) in the environment. In this approach biodegradability was imparted on polyethylene, a popular, low-cost commodity polymer, using starch additives. Corn starch and cassava starch in varying proportions were compounded with suitably prepared polyethylene powder and compression-moulded in steel dies. Alongside tensile test, biodegradability tests were carried out by burying samples for 28 days in two different soil types with different pH, fungi and bacteria load. Cassava starch additions were found to be better at imparting biodegradability. Also, alkaline soil types with higher bacteria load seemed a more favourable environment for accomplishing biodegradation in the starch-polyethylene composites.

Influence of Climatic Parameters on Soybean Subjected to Low Nitrogen Application Rates in Southern Guinea Savanna of Oyo State, Nigeria

The variability in weather patterns consequent upon climate change constitutes a critical factor influencing soil N availability and the performance of crops. This paper aimed at evaluating the effects of climatic factors on soybean subjected to low N rates under rain-fed situation in the southern Guinea agro-ecology of Oyo State, Nigeria. A 2-year field experiment involving two soybean varieties (TGx1485-1D and TGx1448-2E) and five low rates of N fertilizer application (0, 5, 15, 25, 35 kg/ha) using Urea applied by banding 7 days after planting was arranged in a 5 × 2 split-plot with three replications. N rates constitute the main plot while variety constitutes the sub-plot. Parameters measured include dry shoot weight, shoot N accumulation, and grain yield. Data were subjected to GENSTAT statistical package for analysis, and means separated with Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 5% level of probability. Climatic parameters of rainfall, temperature, and potential evapotranspiration data were collected from the surface observatory of the National meteorological agency (NIMET) and subjected to Excel package for computation and graphics. The dry shoot weight increases as N rate increases up to 25 kg/ha, but declines at 35 kg/ha application rate, however, TGx1448-2E produced a higher dry shoot weight (2.9 t/ha) than TGx1485-1D (2.8 t/ha). Low N rates had no significant effects on shoot N accumulation and there was no significant difference in varietal response. Low N rate did not affect grain yield, but the TGx1448-2E had a greater yield of 1.5 t/ha than TGx1485-1D (1.30 t/ha). Annual rainfall amounts were 935.5 mm and1475.8 mm in 2009 and 2010 respectively. Potential evapotranspiration (PET) values were 1676.5 mm and 1676.8 mm in 2009 and 2010 respectively. Temperature values range from 24˚C to 29.8
