Azithromycin in a triple therapy for *** eradication in active duodenal ulcer

AIM:To assess and compare the efficacy and safety of two triple regimes:A)metronidazole,amoxicillin and omeprazole, which is still widely used in Russia,and B)azithromycin, amoxicillin and omeprazole in healing active duodenal ulcer and *** eradication. METHODS:100 patients with active duodenal ulcer were included in the open,multicentre,randomized study with comparative *** were randomly assigned to one of the following one-week triple regimes:A) metronidazole 500 mg bid,amoxicillin I g bid and omeprazole 20 mg bid(OAM,n=50)and B)azithromycin 1 god for the first 3 days(total dose 3 g),amoxicillin 1 g bid and omeprazole 20 mg bid(OAA,n=50).Omeprazole 20 mg od was given after the eradication course as a monotherapy for three *** control endoscopy was performed 8 weeks after the *** was determined in the entry of the study and four weeks after the cessation of treatment by means of histology and CLO-test. RESULTS:97 patients completed the study according to the protocol(1 patient of the OAM group did not come to the control endoscopy,2 patients of the OAA group stopped the treatment because of mild allergic urticaria).Duodenal ulcers were healed in 48 patients of the OAM group(96 %, C190.5-100 %)and in 46 patients of the OAA group(92 %, CI 89.5-94.5 %)(p=ns).*** was eradicated in 15 out of 50 patients with OAM(30 %,CI 17-43 %)and in 36 out of 50 patients treated with OAA(72 %;CI 59-85 %) (P<0.001)-ITT ***: The triple therapy with omeprazole, amoxicillin and metronidazole failed to eradicate ***'vc\ the majority of patients, which is an essential argument to withdraw this regimen out of the national recommendations. Macrolide with amoxicillin are preferable to achieve higher eradication rates. Azithromycin (1 g od for the first 3 days) can be considered as a successful component of the triple PPI-based regimen.

Designing a performance measurement system to support materials management in engineer-to-order:a case study

There are many different production situations that can be employed to meet demand. In the engineer-to- order （ETO） production situation, products are manufac- tured to meet specific customer needs by unique engineering or significant customization. In such an environment, failing to supply the required materials in the right quantities and at the right time increases the risk of breaching due date agreements and thereby losing customer satisfaction. As such, materials management is one of the most important and critical processes within production planning and control in ETO. To bring attention and improvement to this area, ETO companies may benefit from a performance measurement system （PMS） that systematically monitors how well mate- rials management is carried out. The design of a company＇s PMS varies with its production situation. Within the large body of literature on performance management and mea- surement, limited literature specifically addressing perfor- mance measurement in ETO has been identified. After being approached by a Norwegian ETO company requesting a PMS for materials management, the authors therefore set out to design the PMS from scratch, using literature on ETO, materials management and performance management and measurement as a starting point. The paper presents the proposed PMS. It provides a basis for further studies on the topic, and could be used by managers in ETO companies to assess and improve their materials management practice.

The hypoglycemic potential of phenolics from functional foods and their mechanisms

Long-term postprandial hyperglycemia is a primary risk factor for developing chronic metabolic diseases such as obesity,type 2 diabetes,and cardiovascular *** hyperglycemia induces the glycation of proteins,oxidative stress,inflammation and increases plasma insulin and lipid *** resistance is the primary cause of postprandial excursions of blood glucose and *** can be treated by lowering dietary carbohydrates intake,digestion,and *** functional foods improve glucose metabolism by increasing insulin sensitivity and inhibitingα-glucosidase in the small *** phytochemicals,especially active phenolics are good antioxidants and show anti-inflammatory action and regulate blood *** review aimed to report on hypoglycemic properties of active phenolics from functional foods and their proposed anti-diabetic ***,further clinical trials are required to confirm the bioavailability,safety,and efficacy of phenolics,especially the dosage and duration of treatment,to avoid adverse effects and give better dietary recommendations.

Potentiometric determination of mefenamic acid in pharmaceutical formulation by membrane sensor based on ion-pair with basic dye

The characteristics, performance and application of membrane sensors based on ion-pair Brilliant Green mefenamate are described. The sensor＇s response to the mefenamate ion has the sensitivity of （86.0 ± 2.0） mV/pC over the range of 9 × 10 s-I × 10 2 mol/L and the detection limit of 4.5 ×10 s mol/L at pH 8.5-12. The sensor is easily assembled at a relatively low cost and has fast response time （5-10 s）. The proposed sensor displayed good selectivity for mefenamate ion in the presence of different substances. It was used to determine mefenamic acid in pharmaceuticals.

Design method for an acoustic cloak in flows by topology optimization

In this paper,a design method for an acoustic cloak in the presence of background mean flows is proposed by using topology optimization,which enables the associated fabrication of the cloaking *** density-based topology optimization method is used to allocate the designated materials,thus providing the structure of the *** optimization problem is efficiently solved with the gradient-based globally convergent method of moving asymptotes,which utilizes the derivative information from the finite element simulation studies of the linearized acoustic potential *** paper introduces the whole design method first then numerically demonstrates the corresponding performance,which shall constitute the main contribution of the present work.

Roles of functionalized nanoparticles in the performance improvement of proton-exchange membranes used in low-and intermediate-temperature hydrogen fuel cells: A review

A variety of nanoparticles（NPs）(e.g., SiO2, TiO2, CeO2, Co3O4, etc.) and their functionalized counterparts have been intensively investigated for improving the electrochemical and mechanical durability of polymer-based proton-exchange membranes（PEMs） for use in low-and intermediate-temperature fuel cells. This study is to conduct a comprehensive review on the roles of functionalized NPs in the performance enhancement of PEMs including proton conductivity, gas crossover resistance, electrochemical and mechanical durability, etc. A brief historical review of PEM fuel cell（PEMFC） technology is made. Typical types of NPs and their functionalization techniques are retrospected and their roles in the performance improvement of PEMs are compared in ***, the opportunities and challenges to develop high-performance functionalized NPs for use in PEMs and PEMFCs are prospected and justified.

Effect of storage conditions on long-term stability of Ag nanoparticles formed via green synthesis

Spherical Ag nanoparticles(AgNPs) with a diameter of 20 nm or smaller were biologically synthesized using algae Parachlorella kessleri. The effect of storage conditions on the long-term stability of AgNPs was investigated. UV/Vis spectrophotometry, transmission electron microscopy, and dynamic light scattering measurements revealed that the long-term stability of AgNPs was influenced by light and temperature conditions. The most significant loss of stability was observed for the AgNPs stored in daylight at room temperature. The AgNPs stored under these conditions began to lose their stability after approximately 30 d; after 100 d, a substantial amount of agglomerated particles settled to the bottom of the Erlenmeyer flask. The AgNPs stored in the dark at room temperature exhibited better long-term stability. Weak particle agglomeration began at approximately the 100 th day. The AgNPs stored in the dark at about 5℃ exhibited the best long-term stability; the AgNPs stored under such conditions remained spherical, with a narrow size distribution, and stable(no agglomeration) even after 6 months. Zeta-potential measurements confirmed better dispersity and stability of AgNPs stored under these conditions.
