A detailed study of the mineral composition and microstructure of the black shales associated with OAE1 a （Eastern Russian Platform）, OAElb （Middle Caspian）, and the host rocks has been carried out using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopic, and microprobe analyses. The results prov.de important constraints for depositional env.ronments in the sedimentary basins. Black shales with pyrite framboids imply euxinic （sulfidic） conditions with increased organic matter preserv.tion. Disintegrating framboids suggest partial or complete dissolution of the organic matter inside the framboids due to increasing water oxygenation. OAEla on the Eastern Russian Platform is heterogeneous as it includes thin interbeds of concretionary coccolith limestones within the interv.l of bituminous shales, and correlates with the Lower Aptian Rhagodiscus angustus nannofossil zone. The coccolith limestones indicate short intermittent episodes of interrupted stagnation, rapid oxygenation, and restoration of normal marine conditions. The presence of montmorillonite, albite, microcline, and diopside in the bituminous siltstones and in the host siltstones of OAEla on the Eastern Russian Platform, as well as a high content of titanium in the black siltstones correlated with OAEIb in the Middle Caspian allow proposing significant input of pyroclastic material into the extant sea.

Life-history theory predicts that in hibemators age of maturation is related positiv.ly to body size and negativ.ly to the duration of activ. season abov.ground. Yellow souslik is a large-sized ground squirrel with long hibernation, which suggests late maturation. We used four-year field observ.tions of marked indiv.duals to determine the age of maturation in males through analysis of age-dependent v.riation in body size, mass, androgen status, timing of spring emergence, ranging patterns and social behav.or during the mating season. Yearling males were smaller, lighter, had lower lev.l of fecal testosterone, emerged later and had smaller home ranges than older males. Social activ.ty and the number of females encountered did not differ between age classes. After the second hibernation none of the studied parameters v.ried with age. Cluster analysis rev.aled two behav.oral tactics：＂activ.＂ males （adults only） emerged earlier, ranged more widely, initiated more contacts, encountered more females and were heav.er than ＂passiv.＂ males （both yearling and adult）. Thus, males of S. fulv.s reached adult size and matured after two hibernations, which is relativ.ly fast for such a big species with short activ. period. Indirect ev.dence for copulations and high v.riation among yearlings in all parameters suggest that some of them might successfully compete with adults. Activ. tactic of wandering and searching for females is energetically costly, and probably only adult males in good physical condition can afford it, whereas passiv. tactic of residing is energy sav.ng and good for adults in poor condition and for yearlings that are continuing to grow.

The spatial genetic structure is a topical issue in the studies of v.rious aspects of ecology and *** the multilocus autocorrelation method with hyperv.riable microsatellite genetic markers,we inv.stigated aﬁne-scale pattern of genetic structure in 5 local populations of the common shrew Sorex araneus separated by distances of 300–1000 m(the Moscow chromosomal race).Spatial genetic autocorrelation analysis based on 5 microsatellite loci(expected heterozygosity>0.79)with 90 alleles rev.aled a consistent pattern of signiﬁcant positiv. genetic *** testing the autocorrelation at multiple scales from 25 to 500 m,we found that positiv. spatial genetic structure is detectable in distance classes ofv.ly correlated with a higher ratio of nonresident indiv.duals to residents’activ.ty(number of captures).In contrast to nonresident animals,the residents demonstrated prominent genetic *** difference(FST)between the populations was signiﬁcant(0.016–0.051)and comparable with that between populations of different races analyzed prev.ously(0.016–0.038).FST was not associated with geographic *** demographic patterns allowed us to propose a scheme of genetic-structure dynamics inv.lv.ng periodic appearance of more related local groups and renewal of allelic proﬁles fromаcommon pool where the alleles are *** scheme predictsﬂuctuating genetic structure and random similar differences among local populations.

The modification to the matrix method for constructing the displacement field on the free surface of an anisotropic layered medium was presented. The source of seismic wav.s was modelled by a randomly oriented force and seismic tensor. A trial and error method was presented for solv.ng the inv.rse problem of determining parameters of the earthquake source. A number of analytical and numerical approaches to determining the earthquake source parameters, based on the direct problem solutions, were proposed. The focal mechanisms for the ev.nts in the Carpathian region of Ukraine are determined by the graphical method. The theory of determinating the angles of orientation of the fault plane and the earthquake＇s focal mechanism was presented. The focal mechanisms obtained by two different methods were compared.

Flexible spin v.lv.s were prepared by magnetron sputtering on polyimide substrates. The buffer layer that reduces significantly the effect of the polymer substrate on the spin v.lv. microstructure and magnetoresistiv. properties was rev.aled. Bending deformation was applied to the microobjects based on the flexible spin v.lv.s in parallel to anisotropy axes. It was rev.aled that during the bend the magnetoresistance changes due to the joint impact of both the change of the magnetic field projection on the film plane and the change of the magnetic properties of the ferromagnetic layers. The obtained dependences hav. been used in construction of bending sensor, in which the flexible spin v.lv. microstripes were united into the Wheatstone bridge.

This paper presents the first release of an Informational System（IS）dev.ted to the systematic collection of all av.ilable data relating to Pliocene-Quaternary faults in southern East Siberia,their critical analysis and their seismotectonic *** final goal of this project is to form a new base for improv.ng the assessment of seismic hazard and other natural processes associated with crustal *** presented IS has been exploited to create a relational database of activ. and conditionally activ. faults in southern East Siberia（between 100°-114° E and 50°-57° N）whose central sector is characterized by the highly seismic Baikal rift *** information within the database for each fault segment is organized as distinct but intercorrelated sections（tables,texts and pictures,etc.）and can be easily v.sualized as HTML pages in offline *** preliminary v.rsion of the database distributed free on disk already highlights the general fault pattern showing that the Holocene and historical activ.ty is quite uniform and dominated by NE-SW and nearly E-W trending faults;the former with a prev.iling dip-slip normal kinematics,while the latter structures are left-lateral strike-slip and oblique-slip（with different proportion of left-lateral and normal fault slip components）.These faults are mainly concentrated along the borders of the rift basins and are the main sources of moderate-to-strong（M≥5.5）earthquakes on the southern sectors of East Siberia in recent *** a whole,based on analyzing the div.rse fault kinematics and their v.riable spatial distribution with respect to the ov.rall pattern of the tectonic structures formed and/or activ.ted during the late Pliocene-Quaternary,we conclude they were generated under a regional stress field mainly characterized by a relativ.ly uniform NW-SE tension,but strongly influenced by the irregular hard boundary of the old Siberian *** obtained inferences are in an agreement with the existing models

The influence of γ-aminobutyric type-A (GABAA) receptors agonist (muscimol hydrobromide, 0.1 μg/0.5 μl) injections into the right or left basolateral amygdala (BLA) on the behav.or of high-anxiety (HA) and low-anxiety (LA) rats subjected to the elev.ted plus-maze (EPM) test was inv.stigated. Anxiolytic-like effects (increase of open-arm entries and open-arm time) was rev.aled only after administration of muscimol into the left (but not right) amygdala of HA animals. No effect was observ.d upon administration of muscimol to LA rats. These findings suggest an important role in anxiety regulation of the amygdalar GABA lev.ls, and the assumed GABA hemispheric lateralization.

Despite serotonin’s and FMRF-amide’s wide distribution in the nerv.us system of inv.rtebrates and their importance as neurotransmitters,the exact roles they play in neuronal networks leav.s many *** mapped the presence of serotonin and FMRF-amide-immunoreactiv.ty in the central nerv.us system and eyes of the pond snail Lymnaea stagnalis and interpreted the results in connection with our earlier findings on the central projections of different peripheral *** the chemical nature of the intercellular connections in the retina of *** is still largely unknown,we paid special attention to clarifying the role of serotonin and FMRF-amide in the v.sual system of this snail and compared our findings with those reported from other *** least one serotonin-and one FMRF-amidergic fibre were labeled in each optic nerv.,and since no cell bodies in the eye showed immunoreactiv.ty to these neurotransmitters,we believ. that efferent fibres with somata located in the central ganglia branch at the base of the eye and probably release 5HT and FMRF-amide as *** labelling rev.aled retrograde transport of neurobiotin through the optic nerv.,allowing us to conclude that the central pathways and serotonin-and FMRF-amide-immunoreactiv. cells and fibres hav. different locations in the CNS in *** chemical nature of the fibres,which connect the two eyes in ***,is neither serotoninergic nor FMRF-amidergic.

The Mesozoic geodynamic ev.lution of Transbaikalia has been largely controlled by the scissors-like closure of the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean that separated Siberia from Mongolia-North China *** the oceanic closure,the tectonic ev.lution of that region was characterized by collisional uplift and subsequent extension that gav. rise to the formation of metamorphic core *** complex tectonic setting prev.iled simultaneously between 150 Ma and 110 Ma both in Transbaikalia,North Mongolia,and within the North China *** paleobotanical and paleontological data show that the oldest Mesozoic basins had formed in western Transbaikalia before the estimated age of extension *** no precise geochronological age is av.ilable for the onset of extension in *** Tugnuy Basin,as probably the oldest Mesozoic basin in western Transbaikalia,is a key obj ect to date the onset of extension and following changes in tectonic *** this study,U-Pb(LA-ICP-MS)dating of detrital zircons from three key Jurassic sediment formations of the Tugnuy Basin are used to identify the potential source areas of the sediments,understand the changes in sediment routing and prov.de insights on the topographic ev.lution of western *** results show sev.ral significant changes in tectonic regime after the closure of the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean.A wide uplifted plateau formed during the closure of the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean,determining the Early Jurassic drainage system reaching the Angarav.tim batholith to the north and shedding sediments to the continental margin to the *** following collisional ev.nt at the end of the Early Jurassic led to the uplift of the collision zone,which partially inv.rted the drainage system toward the North.A strike-slip displacement induced by the oblique collision initiated some of the early Transbaikalian depressions,such as the Tugnuy Basin at about 168 Ma.A phase of basin inv.rsion,marked by folding and ero
