TiO2 immobilized on SiO2 （TiO2 /SiO2 ） have been prepared by sol-gel method and various ions of transition metals （Cr3＋ , Co2＋ , Ni2＋ , Cu2＋ , and Zn2＋）weredoped on the photocatalyst usingwet impregnation method under reducing calcination atmosphere. The photocatalytic activity of metaldoped TiO2 /SiO2 towards phenoldegradation under black light irradiationwere investigated and comparedwith undoped TiO2 /SiO2 . The results showed that the photoresponse of Cu2＋ and Zn2＋doped TiO2 /SiO2were larger than undoped TiO2 /SiO2 , indicating that the photogenerated carrierswere separated more efficiently in Cu2＋ and Zn2＋doped TiO2 /SiO2 . The reactivitywas in the order of Cu2＋〉 Zn2＋〉 Ni2＋〉 Cr3＋〉 Co2＋ . Thedifferent photoreactivitywas ascribed to combine effect of thedifferent ionic radii and photocorrison tendency of thedopants. The samplewas also characterized by surface analytical methods such as X-raydiffraction, scanning electron micrograph/electrondispersive X-ray analyzer and UV-Vis absorption spectrum.

Most adults with auditory processing disorder(APD) often have trouble at work. It is possible that these listening problems in adults with APD influence their mental health. Thus, we have to take the subject's personality and mental status into consideration when supporting subjects with APD. However, studies on APD in adults are comparatively rare. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the relationships between the results of auditory tests, APD symptoms, and psychological status in subjects with APD. This study included 22 adults who complained of listening problems in everyday life, and they underwent auditory processing tests and were questioned regarding their psychological *** the results of the auditory processing tests, all subjects showed low scores on at least one test; therefore, they were suspected of having APD. Especially, the scores were low on the auditory memory test. Furthermore, subjects with APD show relatively similar psychological characteristics to each other. However, there was no significant relationship between the results of the auditory processing tests and psychological *** have to take notice of a subject's psychological state when they perceive their listening difficulties as a large-scale problem and feel anxious as a result. For this purpose, we should take psychological characteristics into consideration at the time of the medical examination interview before audio-psychological testing.

Bilateral Cochlear implants (CIs) improved speech intelligibility, speech perception in background noise, and sound localization in quiet and noisy situations. However, it is unclear whether these advantages essentially result in binaural integration of acoustic stimuli from each ear. In this study, we investigated the effectiveness of binaural integration by bilateral CIs placement using binaural hearing tests and subjective auditory perceptual assessment. A 61-year-old bilateral CIs subject underwent the following four tests:the Japanese Hearing in Noise Test (HINT-J), the dichotic listening test (DLT), the Rapidly Alternating Speech Perception (RASP) test, and subjective auditory perceptual assessment. The HINT-J score was significantly higher for bilateral CIs than for a unilateral CI. However, DLT and the RASP test revealed contradictory results. Subjective auditory perceptual assessment revealed active and bright impressions for bilateral hearing, which were also noisy and strong compared with those for unilateral hearing. The results of this study revealed that bilateral CIs improved speech perception in background noise and an improved auditory impression, although the bilateral integration abilities were not improved. This was probably because the patient was required to combine information from the two ears into a single perception in DLT and the RASP test. More longitudinal data should be collected and analyzed in future studies to evaluate the long-term effects of bilateral CIs. In February 2007,a 41-year-old Japanese male was admitted to our hospital with increasing upper abdominal pain.A contrast-enhanced computed tomography(CT)scan of the abdomen demonstrated a well-demarcated,hypodense cystic mass with a thickened wall in the *** laboratory results were within normal limits,except for increased carcinoembryonic antigen,carbohydrate antigen 19-9,DUPAN-2 and *** patient was diagnosed as having a mesenteric malignant cyst,and during a laparotomy,a right hemicolectomy with mesenteric cystectomy was performed without rupture in March *** the microscopic findings,there was a well-differentiated adenocarcinoma in the inner surface of the cyst and in the fibrous connective tissue of the hypertrophic cystic *** tumor cells were immunohistochemically reactive to cytokeratin(CK)7,CK18 and *** remnant of the malignancy was detected in the resected margin of the colon,cyst,liver or peritoneum nor was an uptake detected in an 18[F]-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/CT examination of other ***,the malignancy was concluded to be a serous cystadenocarcinoma of the *** months after the operation,the patient died from peritonitis carcinomatosa due to a small intestine *** report suggests mesenteric cystadenocarcinomas originating in the ovary,oviduct and intestinal mucosa,but these were ruled out in our *** this report,we discuss a case of the malignant transformation of a cyst into adenocarcinoma,which to our knowledge has never been previously reported in a male patient.

The purpose of this study was to assess factors associated with subjective sleep evaluation, chiefly excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) adult outpatients under continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment. One thousand and forty-eight OSAS outpatients (mean age: 51.4% male: 90.5%) who were treated by CPAP were consecutively collected. Age, sex, CPAP compliance (CPAP usage as their device of nights with application-time of at least 4 hours per night objectively;%usage ≥ 4 h/d), and Japanese version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI-J) of the patients showing EDS (Japanese version of the Epworth Sleepiness Scale;JESS ≥ 11) were compared cross-sectionally with those of the patients who did not show EDS (JESS < 11). Nineteen point two % of all patients showed EDS subjectively. Two hundred one patients were classified to an EDS(+) group and an 847 patients were classified to EDS(–) group. Age and global PSQI-J scores were significantly different between the two groups. Logistic regression showed that EDS was significantly associated with global PSQI-J scores, but not with age. Among PSQI-J components, overall sleep quality, duration of sleep, sleep disturbance, and day dysfunction due to sleepiness were significantly higher in the EDS(+) group. Especially, 19.4% of patient in the EDS(+) group reported actual sleep time during the past month to be less than 5 hours/day. Although functional relationship should be further evaluated, insufficient sleep is the main factor associated with EDS in the OSAS patients under CPAP treatment.

Faults and Claims about Thermal Environments in Relation to Energy Saving Measures in Smaller Office Buildings

Building equipment, energy-saving systems, and claims of inappropriate indoor thermal environments were analyzed in relation to the floor area using responses to a questionnaire survey of service managers of 157 buildings built in Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo prefectures in Kinki area of Japan. Results show the following: (1) In smaller buildings (< 5,000 m 2 ), setting temperatures are higher in summer and lower in winter, effects of "uncomfortable radiation from windows" are greater, energy-saving systems decrease indoor thermal comfort, but claims of "hot" and "cold" are fewer; (2) Claims of "hot" and "cold" are unrelated to the setting temperature and whether the air-conditioning control system is central or local; (3) The adoption rates of mitigation of dress codes ("COOL-BIZ" and "WARM-BIZ") are higher than those of temperature mitigation of air conditioning.
