Bac.gro.nd: c.0}genital Meso.lastic.Nephro.a (c.N) is a mesenc.ymal renal tumo.r o. early life. With a median diagno.is o. two.mo.ths and o.er 90% o. c.ses o.c.rring within the first year o. life, it is the mo.t prevalent no.-Wilms’ renal tumo.r. Even tho.gh imaging c.n be used as a diagno.ing to.l, it is frequently identified in the neo.atal perio. when the baby has an abdo.inal mass. There are three different histo.o.ic.types: mixed, c.llular, and c.assic. Radic.l nephrec.o.y is the usual mo.e o. treatment, tho.gh adjuvant c.emo.herapy may be nec.ssary fo. the c.llular type, whic. may be aggressive. c.se presentatio.: We repo.t o. a c.se o. a 2-day-o.d term male neo.ate bo.n to.a 27-year-o.d mo.her thro.gh spo.taneo.s vertex delivery (SVD). He presented with a right-sided abdo.inal mass fro. birth. An abdo.inal ultraso.nd sc.n revealed a huge, well-c.rc.msc.ibed hetero.eneo.s so.t tissue mass in the right hemi-abdo.en extending to.the left side, measuring 10.2 c. by 8.0 c.. He underwent a right radic.l nephrec.o.y with a tumo.r weight o. 450 g and a size o. 18 c. × 15 c. × 6 c.. Histo.atho.o.ic.l diagno.is was c.0}genital Meso.lastic.Nephro.a (c.llular type) Stage 1. c.0}c.usio.: Any infant with a renal tumo.r sho.ld be evaluated fo. c.0}genital meso.lastic.nephro.a. o.g>Bac.gro.ndo.g>: Cervical ripening is prerequisite of successful induction of labor. Vaginal misoprostol and Foley’s catheter placement have been widely used for this purpose but the data are not always sufficient. We attempted to determine which (misoprostol versus Foley’s catheter) is more effective/safer in Nigerian setting. Methods: A randomized controlled trial was performed at Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, Nigeria, involving 135 term pregnant women requiring cervical ripening and labor induction. Participants were randomly allocated to misoprostol versus catheter group. The following were recorded/measured/analyzed: Bishop’s score, age, parity, body mass index, gestational age, labor duration, indication, oxytocin use, mode of delivery, and Apgar score. Chi square test and t test were used where appropriate. Results: At 24 hours, all of misoprostol group were either in labor, had ripe cervix, or had delivered, whereas 35.4% of catheter group had still unripe cervix (x2 = 29.856, P = 0.0001).
