Development and psychometric evaluation of the nurse behavior toward confirmed and suspected HIV/AIDS patients (NB-CSHAP) scale

There is a scarcity of literature discussing nurses’ behaviors toward caring for suspected or confirmed human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) patients. The development of a scale specific to measure nurses’ behaviors will allow health institutions to assess the disposition of their nurses in terms of HIV care. This study aims to present the rigors of developing and validating a reliable instrument to contextualize these nurses’ behaviors. This study utilized a sequential exploratory mixed method design to develop the NB-CSHAP scale. Thematic analysis was done on the qualitative data from the interviews with persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) from which items were selected to be included in the scale. Exploratory factor analysis was utilized to extract the factors and Cronbach’s alpha was used to assess the reliability of the instrument. Four factors were extracted and are categorized as either caring or discriminatory behaviors. These include: (1) service-oriented, (2) openhanded, (3) perceptive, and (4) discriminatory. The scale has an internal consistency of 0.73. The scale shows acceptable psychometric properties, hence can be used to assess the nurses’ behaviors in caring for confirmed or suspected HIV clients. The scale may be used by health institutions to determine the quality of the patient care provided by their nurses to clients with confirmed or suspected HIV .

Mapping frequent spatio-temporal wind profile patterns using multi-dimensional sequential pattern mining

Holistic understanding of wind behaviour over space,time and height is essential for harvesting wind energy *** study presents a novel approach for mapping frequent wind profile patterns using multidimensional sequential pattern mining(MDSPM).This study is illustrated with a time series of 24 years of European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts European Reanalysis-Interim gridded(0.125°×0.125°)wind data for the Netherlands every 6 h and at six height *** wind data were first transformed into two spatio-temporal sequence databases(for speed and direction,respectively).Then,the Linear time Closed Itemset Miner Sequence algorithm was used to extract the multidimensional sequential patterns,which were then visualized using a 3D wind rose,a circular histogram and a geographical *** patterns were further analysed to determine their wind shear coefficients and turbulence intensities as well as their spatial overlap with current areas with wind *** analysis identified four frequent wind profile *** of them highly suitable to harvest wind energy at a height of 128 m and 68.97%of the geographical area covered by this pattern already contains wind *** study shows that the proposed approach is capable of efficiently extracting meaningful patterns from complex spatio-temporal datasets.

Prefoldins 3 and 5 Play an Essential Role in Arabidopsis Tolerance to Salt Stress

During the last years, our understanding of the mechanisms that control plant response to salt stress has been steadily progressing. Pharmacological studies have allowed the suggestion that the cytoskeleton may be involved in regulating such a response. Nevertheless, genetic evidence establishing that the cytoskeleton has a role in plant tolerance to salt stress has not been reported yet. Here, we have characterized Arabidopsis T-DNA mutants for genes encoding proteins orthologous to prefoldin （PFD） subunits 3 and 5 from yeast and mammals. In these organisms, PFD subunits, also known as Genes Involved in Microtubule biogenesis （GIM）, form a heterohexameric PFD complex implicated in tubulin and actin folding. We show that, indeed, PFD3 and PFD5 can substitute for the loss of their yeast orthologs, as they are able to complement yeast gim2Δ and gim5Δ mutants, respectively. Our results indicate that pfd3 and pfd5 mutants have reduced levels of α- and β-tubulin compared to the wild-type plants when growing under both control and salt-stress conditions. In addition, pfd3 and pfd5 mutants display alterations in their developmental patterns and microtubule organization, and, more importantly, are hypersensitive to high concentrations of NaCl but not of LiCl or mannitol. These results demonstrate that the cytoskeleton plays an essential role in plant tolerance to salt stress.

Shoot-level biomass allocation is affected by shoot type in Fagus sylvatica

Aims The present study aims(i)to examine if recently reported interspecific shoot-level biomass allocational trade-offs,*** trade-offs between leaf mass(LM)and stem mass(SM)and between leaf size and leaf number,hold intraspecifically and(ii)to explore whether those scaling relationships are independent of shoot type(*** *** shoots).Methods In order to address our questions,we used Fagus sylvatica saplings growing under a broad light range that were sampled in theWestern Carpathians Mountains(Slovakia).Important Findings We found that:(i)intraspecific shoot-level biomass allocational trade-offs differ from those reported interspecifically and that(ii)long and short shoots differ in biomass allocation scaling *** relationships with slopes statistically smaller than 1.0 or higher than-1.0,were found between SM and LM and between mean leafing intensity and individual leaf mass,respectively,in long *** contrast,isometric scaling was found in short *** suggests that leaf mass in short shoots is unaffected by shoot stem mass,in contrast to long *** shoots also had a larger fraction of biomass allocated to *** shoots,as has been observed in other shoot dimorphic species,are specialized,with short shoots specializing in carbon gain and long shoots in space acquisition.A greater shift in LM than in SM among species during speciation shifting from allometric intraspecific relationships to an isometric interspecific scaling relationship between those traits could explain the discrepancies between the outputs of the present intraspecific study and others similar *** study draws attention to the importance of considering shoot types in future studies dealing with allocation rules in species with dimorphic shoots.

Prefoldins Negatively Regulate Cold Acclimation in Arabidopsis thaliana by Promoting Nuclear Proteasome-Mediated HY5 Degradation

The process of cold acclimation is an important adaptive response whereby many plants from temperate regions increase their freezing tolerance after being exposed to low non-freezing temperatures. The correct development of this response relies on proper accumulation of a number of transcription factors that regulate expression patterns of cold-responsive genes. Multiple studies have revealed a variety of molecular mechanisms involved in promoting the accumulation of these transcription factors. Interestingly, however, the mechanisms implicated in controlling such accumulation to ensure their adequate levels remain largely unknown. In this work, we demonstrate that prefoldins （PFDs） control the levels of HY5, an Arabidopsis transcription factor with a key role in cold acclimation by activating anthocyanin biosynthesis, in response to low temperature. Our results show that, under cold conditions, PFDs accumulate into the nucleus through a DELLA-dependent mechanism, where they interact with HY5, triggering its ubiquitination and subsequent degradation. The degradation of HY5 would result, in turn, in anthocyanin biosynthesis attenuation, ensuring the accurate development of cold acclimation. These findings uncover an unanticipated nuclear function for PFDs in plant responses to abiotic stresses.

Saccharification of Sugarcane Bagasse Using an Enzymatic Extract Produced by Aspergillus fumigatus

This study investigates the efficiency of a crude enzymatic extract produced by Aspergillus fumigatus SCBM6 by solid state fermentation(SSF)in the hydrolysis of alkali pretreated sugarcane bagasse(PTB).After SSF using in natura sugarcane bagasse(SCB),the enzymatic extract presented 21.33 U.g^-1 of β-glucosidase and 544.46 U.g^-1 of *** alkaline pretreatment with sodium hydroxide 2%NaOH(w/v)removed 43% of the lignin from PTB and the cellulosic fraction increased to 75%.The hydrolysis was optimized as a function of time,temperature,and concentration of *** hydrolysis,the maximum yield(30.05%)of total released reducing sugars(TRS)was obtained under the following conditions:24 h,55℃,2% of PTB and 3 U.g^-1 of β-glucosidase(CBU).Furthermore,an approximate TRS value(26.4%)was also obtained after saccharification carried out during 6 h,55℃,4% of PTB and 1 *** results indicate that hydrolysis can be performed in a short incubation period and with low enzymatic load for reasonable TRS release.

Pupal emergence pattern in cactophilic Drosophila and the effect of host plants

目的:评估接受局部眼内压(IOP)降低治疗患者的药物依从性,并确定接受青光眼专家治疗的患者与接受普通眼科医生随访患者之间的药物依从性是否存在差异及导致依从性差的多个障碍。方法:横断面调查研究。纳入2020-10/2021-02共54名患者行局部降眼压药物,且受试者完成了一份定制调查问卷,评估药物依从性及其障碍。结果:约60%受试者未完全依从局部治疗。Pearson检验表明,依从性与是否接受青光眼专家的随访之间无显著关联(χ^(2)=1.2468,P=0.5361)。其次,43%的受试者排斥滴眼液,Logistic回归分析显示,受试者表现出低依从性(β_(1)=3.168,P=0.0367)。结论:问卷可有效评估对局部降IOP治疗的药物依从性及其障碍。本研究药物依从率非常低,因此必须实施策略应对影响依从性最常见的障碍。

Effect of Rectus Plication during Abdominoplasty on the Mechanical Power and Airway Pressures: Comparison of Two Ventilatory Strategies

Background: Abdominoplasty is a commonly requested procedure for aesthetic improvement of the affected soft tissue layers of skin, fat, and muscle through the slightest incision feasible. The degree of plicature generates an increase in intraabdominal pressure that causes an increase in intrathoracic pressure. Pressure, volume, flow, and respiratory rate are components of a unique physical variable, the mechanical power (MP), and is an integrated variable linked to most factors related to postoperative pulmonary complications. Purpose: To assess the effect of rectus plication (RP) during abdominoplasty on lung pressures and the contribution to increasing the MP. Method: A open-label study was conducted at TJ Plast Advanced Center for Plastic Surgery in Tijuana, México, from September 2021 to May 2022. The study included forty-six female patients subjected to abdominoplasty or liposuction with abdominoplasty. After the induction of general anesthesia and neuromuscular blockade, they were allocated into two groups: Group 1 pressure control ventilation-volume guaranteed (PCV-VG) and Group 2 volume control ventilation (VCV). Respiratory pressures and MP were assessed before and after RP. Results: During VCV, patients had a greater increase in peak pressure (PIP) (P 0.000). Plateau pressure (Pplat) increased 1.78 ± 0.35 cmH2O in group 2 after RP (P = 0.001). MP had a greater increase in group 2 after RP (P 0.01). Conclusion: This prospective study showed that RP is related to an increase in PIP and Pplat and an increase in the MP better controlled with PCV-VG ventilation.
