New insights into petrogenesis of Miocene magmatism associated with porphyry copper deposits of the Andean Pampean flat slab,Argentina

The Paramillos de Uspallata mining district located in the backarc region of the Pampean flat-slab segment(28°-33°S) features porphyry-type deposits genetically associated with Middle Miocene volcanics. This mineralizing magmatism comprising hydrothermally altered(sodic-calcic, potassic and phyllic alteration) subvolcanic and pyroclastic rocks of andesite-basaltic andesite and dacite-rhyolite composition with a typical arc signature, represents the eastward broadening of the Farellones arc by ~17 Ma. Its geochemistry also reveals a residual mineralogy of amphibole ± garnet with limited plagioclase fractionation resulting in an adakitic signal; however, according to the isotopic data collected in our study, the contributions of MASH(melting-assimilation-storage-homogenization) processes in the acquisition of this signal cannot be *** the broadening of the Farellones arc and its residual mineralogy e typical of relatively deep magmatic chambers e are consistent with a slab shallowing and outcoming crustal thickening *** tectonic scenario could be interpreted as a result of an early effect of the Juan Fernandez Ridge collision that was further to the north by ~17 Ma. Our findings suggest that magmas were fertile for porphyry type deposits during the early stages of the slab shallowing.

Acute effects of partial-body vibration in sitting position

AIM To investigate the acute effects of sinusoidal and stochastic resonance partial-body vibration in sitting position, including muscle activity, heart rate variability, balance and *** Fifty healthy participants were assigned randomly to two training conditions: A sinusoidal partial-body vibration(SIN, 8 Hz) or a stochastic resonance partial-body vibration(STOCH, 8 ± 2 Hz). For baseline assessment participants sat on the vibration platform without vibration. Both training conditions consisted of five series of a one-minute vibration training and a one-minutebreak between them. In this experimental study surface electromyography(EMG) of the erector spinae(ES), one of the back muscles, and heart rate variability(HRV) was measured at baseline and during training. Balance and flexibility were assessed at baseline and immediately after training. Balance was measured with the modified star excursion balance test(mS EBT) and flexibility was assessed through the modified fingertip-to-floor method(mF TF).RESULTS Paired sample t-test showed a significant increase in balance that was restricted to STOCH(t =-2.22, P = 0.018; SIN: t =-0.09, P = 0.466). An increase in flexibility was also restricted to STOCH(t = 2.65, P = 0.007; SIN: t = 1.41, P = 0.086). There was no significant change of muscle activity in the ES-EMG in STOCH or SIN conditions. In both training conditions, HRV decreased significantly, but remained in a low-load range(STOCH: t = 2.89, P = 0.004; SIN: t = 2.55, P = 0.009).CONCLUSION In sitting position, stochastic resonance partial-body vibration can improve balance and flexibility while cardiovascular load is low. STOCH can be a valuable training option to people who are unable to stand(e.g., people, who are temporarily wheelchair-bound).

The effect of activity and face masks on exhaled particles in children

Importance:Despite the high burden of respiratory infections among children,the production of exhaled particles during common activities and the efficacy of face masks in children have not been sufficiently ***:To determine the effect of type of activity and mask usage on exhaled particle production in ***:Healthy children were asked to perform activities that ranged in intensity(breathing quietly,speaking,singing,coughing,and sneezing)while wearing no mask,a cloth mask,or a surgical *** concentration and size of exhaled particles were assessed during each ***:Twenty-three children were enrolled in the *** exhaled particle concentration increased by intensity of activity,with the lowest particle concentration during tidal breathing(1.285 particles/cm^(3)[95%CI 0.943,1.627])and highest particle concentration during sneezing(5.183 particles/cm^(3)[95%CI 1.911,8.455]).High-intensity activities were associated with an increase primarily in the respirable size(≤5μm)particle *** and cloth masks were associated with lower average particle concentration compared to no mask(P=0.026 for sneezing).Surgical masks outperformed cloth masks across all activities,especially within the respirable size *** a multivariable linear regression model,we observed significant effect modification of activity by age and by mask ***:Similar to adults,children produce exhaled particles that vary in size and concentration across a range of *** of respirable size fraction particles(≤5μm),the dominant mode of transmission of many respiratory viruses,increases significantly with coughing and sneezing and is most effectively reduced by wearing surgical face masks.

Impact of Epidural Analgesia in Labour on Neonatal and Maternal Outcomes

Aim: To evaluate the effect of epidural analgesia during labour on neonatal-maternal outcomes. Methods: A retrospective cohort study of nulliparous parturients who gave birth in Vasternorrland County, Sweden, over a 2-year period between 2015 and 2016. Neonatal outcomes (Apgar score at 5 min and umbilical cord arterial blood gases), maternal outcomes (perineal injury, total bleeding volume and maternal satisfaction with birth) and labour parameters (mode of delivery and the durations of labour and postpartum hospital stay) were evaluated. Results: The study cohort consisted of 1449 women with singleton pregnancies. Patients were divided into two groups according to whether during labour they were administered epidural analgesia using bupivacaine and sufentanil (EDA group, n = 615) or not (non-EDA group, n = 834). The rate of assisted vaginal delivery was significantly higher in the EDA group than in the non-EDA group (15.6% and 11.3%, respectively, p tion were similar. The duration of the active phase of labour was significantly longer in the EDA group than in the non-EDA group (489 ± 217 min versus 371 ± 210 min, respectively, p tively). Bleeding volume was similar between the groups after adjusting for gestational age. Women in the EDA group were more satisfied with their labour experience, as measured by the visual analogue scale (p Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that EDA affects delivery and neonatal-maternal outcomes negatively, but increases the mother’s satisfaction with labour.

Features of a Chinese family with cerebral cavernous malformation induced by a novel CCM1 gene mutation

Background Familial cerebral cavernous malformations （CCMs）, characterized by hemorrhagic stroke, recurrent headache and epilepsy, are congenital vascular anomalies of the central nervous system. Familial CCMs is an autosomal dominant inherited disorder and three CCM genes have been identified. We report a Chinese family with CCMs and intend to explore clinical, pathological, magnetic resonance imaging （MRI） features and pathogenic gene mutation of this family. Methods Totally 25 family members underwent brain MRI examination and clinical check. Two patients with surgical indications had surgical treatment and the specimens were subjected to histopathological and microstructural examination. In addition, polymerase chain reaction （PCR） and direct sequencing were performed with genomic DNA extracted from 25 family members＇ blood samples for mutation detection. Results Brain MRI identified abnormal results in seven family members. All of them had multiple intracranial lesions and four cases had skin cavernous hemangioma. T2-weighted sequence showed that the lesions were typically characterized by an area of mixed signal intensity. Gradient-echo （GRE） sequence was more sensitive to find micro- cavernous hemangiomas. There was a wide range in the clinical manifestations as well as the age of onset in the family. The youngest patient was an 8-year-old boy with least intracranial lesions. Histopathological and microstructural examination showed that CCMs were typically discrete multi-sublobes of berry-like lesions, with hemorrhage in various stages of illness evolution. They were formed by abnormally enlarged sinusoids and the thin basement membranes. A novel T deletion mutation in exon 14 of CCM1 gene was identified by mutation detection in the seven patients. Bariatric surgery induces alterations in effective connectivity between the orbitofrontal cortex and limbic regions in obese patients

Obese subjects show enhanced brain responses in motivation and reward neurocircuitry encompassing sensory and somatic integration-interception, motivation-reward(striatal), emotion, and memory processes, which attenuate frontal region activation during food cues. Bariatric surgery(BS) is the only reliable treatment for morbid obesity. Unfortunately, it is unknown how BS affects neurocircuitry after weight loss. We aimed to examine effects of BS on the basal activity of brain areas involved in reward and motivation processing, emotion, memory, and gut-brain interaction. We combined resting-state fMRI with amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation(ALFF) and Granger causality analysis(GCA) to assess interactions between regions within the frontal-mesolimbic circuitry in 16 obese subjects(OB) and 22 normal-weight(NW) *** OB group was studied at baseline and 1 month post BS. Comparisons between OB and NW, and preand post BS showed significant differences in ALFF in areas involved in drive(caudate, orbitofrontal cortex(OFC)), arousal(thalamus), and conditioning/memory(amygdala, hippocampus)(P tion). GCA revealed that in the OB group, the OFC had greater connectivity to limbic regions(amygdala,hippocampus, and medial thalamus) and the caudate. Post BS, the connectivity of the OFC to limbic regions decreased, whereas the connectivity from the amygdala and hippocampus to the caudate and thalamus was enhanced, particularly in subjects with lower body mass index(BMI). OFC activation in the OB group was associated with BMI prior to surgery, and changes in OFC post surgery were associated with alterations in BMI. Overall, the functional connectivity of the OFC was significantly decreased. AIM To screen clinically relevant micro RNAs (mi RNAs) silenced by DNA methylation in human hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS Knockdown of DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs) using si RNAs and mi RNA profiling in HCC cell lines were performed to identify DNA hypermethylation-mediated mi RNA downregulation. Confirmation using individual quantitative real-time PCR (qR T-PCR) assays was thenperformed followed by DNA methylation quantification at the promoter of the mi RNA genes. Quantification of DNA methylation and mi RNA expression was then performed in primary HCC tumor samples and related with clinicopathological *** mi RNA profiling after DNMT knockdown in HCC cell lines revealed upregulation of mi R-23, mi R-25 and mi R-183. After q RT-PCR confirmation and Cp G island methylation quantification of these miR NAs in cell lines, further analysis in primary HCC specimens showed that hsa-mi R-183 is hypermethylated in 30% of HCC (n = 40). Expression of mature miR-183 showed an inverse correlation with DNA methylation levels. In HCC cells, DNMT knockdown and 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine treatment reduced methylation and stimulated expression of mi R-183. In HCC patients, hypermethylation at hsami R-183 promoter significantly correlates with poor survival (log-rank test P = 0.03). DNA methylation analysis in healthy liver, benign liver tumors (hepatocellular adenoma and focal nodular hyperplasia) and their corresponding adjacent tissues showed absence of hypermethylation supporting the notion that aberrant methylation at hsa-miR-183 is specific for the malignant transformation of *** Our data indicate that hypermethylation of hsa-miR-183 is a frequent event in HCC and potentially useful as a novel surrogate diagnostic and prognostic marker.
