Attitude toward preventive counseling and healthy practices among medical students at a Colombian university

Unhealthy behaviors of medical students influence their attitudes toward preventive counseling. The burden of chronic diseases is continually growing in developing countries, emphasizing the need for the increased role of general practitioners in preventive counseling. The objective of this study was to describe the effect of medical training on the risk profiles and attitudes of medical students toward preventive counseling in a Colombian university. Students in their first and fifth years of training were surveyed using the ＂Healthy Doctor = Healthy Patient＂ questionnaire to assess counseling attitudes; personal practices, such as risky drinking, smoking, inadequate nutrition, and non-compliance with physical activity recommendations; and the university environment. The association among these components was estimated, as well as the effect of the university environment. Risky drinking and smoking decreased from first to fifth year （59.3% vs. 37.1%, P = 0.021 and 31.5~ vs. 25.9%, P = 0.51, respectively）, whereas inadequate nutrition and non-compliance with physical activity recommendations increased. Physical activity （PA） was associated with positive counseling attitude （ORs： nutrition 7.6; alcohol 5.2; PA 10.6）. Areas governed by institutional policies that are emphasized in the curriculum positively affected student practices. PA promoted preventive counseling and healthy lifestyles most effectively. Universities should therefore strengthen their preventive medicine curricula and modify social determinants.

This study investigates the use of interactions as a metric to detect emergent phenomena in the ongoing agent-based *** proposed algorithm aims to detect the flocking behavior in the Boids *** model is simple to understand and to use and always verifies *** recent years,several metrics have been proposed to investigate emergent behaviors in complex *** main limitations of these studies are,how to choose a proper metric to avoid a high coast of computation,and how to detect emergence as it happens,i.e.,live *** this paper,we propose an interaction-based algorithm to detect emergent behavior in Boids *** three main contributions of this work are:(1)using interaction as metric,(2)detect emergence when it happens,(3)no need to store simulation data for post-mortem analysis.A prior interactions analysis was done to classify the system *** results show that the algorithm was able to detect the rise of the flocking,i.e.,emergence in the Boids *** results are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Black fungus is a rare and dangerous mycology that usually affects the brain and lungs and could be life-threatening in diabetic ***,some COVID-19 survivors,especially those with co-morbid diseases,have been susceptible to black ***,recovered COVID-19 patients should seek medical support when they notice mucormycosis *** paper proposes a novel ensemble deep-learning model that includes three pre-trained models:reset(50),VGG(19),and *** approach is medically intuitive and efficient compared to the traditional deep learning *** image dataset was aggregated from various resources and divided into two classes:a black fungus class and a skin infection *** the best of our knowledge,our study is the first that is concerned with building black fungus detection models based on deep learning *** proposed approach can significantly improve the performance of the classification task and increase the generalization ability of such a binary classification *** to the reported results,it has empirically achieved a sensitivity value of 0.9907,a specificity value of 0.9938,a precision value of 0.9938,and a negative predictive value of 0.9907.

Optimization of the heat treatment of additively manufactured Ni-base superalloy IN718

Additive manufacturing(AM) of Ni-base superalloy components can lead to a significant reduction of weight in aerospace applications. AM of IN718 by selective laser melting results in a very fine dendritic microstructure with a high dislocation density due to the fast solidification process. The complex phase composition of this alloy, with three different types of precipitates and high residual stresses, necessitates adjustment of the conventional heat treatment for AM parts. To find an optimized heat treatment, the microstructures and mechanical properties of differently solution heat-treated samples were investigated by transmission and scanning electron microscopy, including electron backscatter diffraction, and compression tests. After a solution heat treatment(SHT), the Nb-rich Laves phase dissolves and the dislocation density is reduced, which eliminates the dendritic substructure. SHT at 930 or 954°C leads to the precipitation of the δ-phase, which reduces the volume fraction of the strengthening γ′-and γ′′-phases formed during the subsequent two stage aging treatment. With a higher SHT temperature of 1000°C, where no δ-phase is precipitated, higher γ′ and γ′′ volume fractions are achieved, which results in the optimum strength of all of the solution heat treated conditions.

A clear description of the certain mechanisms of cadmium(Cd) uptake and translocation in rice(Oryza sativa L.) may help to reduce Cd accumulation in rice grain. Hydroponic experiments were carried out to determine the effects of cultivation conditions(aerated and stagnant) on the uptake, translocation and subcellular distribution of Cd in relation to the morphology and anatomy of roots in two rice genotypes with different Cd accumulations in grains. Marked differences in morphology and anatomy were observed between these two genotypes under different cultivation conditions. Genotypes with low Cd accumulation in grains tended to develop fewer root tips per root surface area, larger root porosity and more mature apoplastic barriers. The stagnant cultivation condition decreased the number of root tips per root surface area but increased root porosity and accelerated apoplastic barrier formation in root *** Cd uptake studies revealed that rice plants with fewer number of root tips per root surface area reduced root Cd uptake ability, while mature apoplastic barriers increased root Cd retention in cell walls and the symplast. Thus, the fewer number of root tips per root surface area and the earlier formation of mature apoplastic barriers led to lower Cd uptake and translocation. The results indicated that the morphology and anatomy of roots could play important roles in Cd uptake and translocation in rice, and could be influenced by both genotype and cultivation conditions. The present results would be useful in screening and planting rice plants with low Cd accumulation.

Validation of the Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) society recommendations for liver surgery: a prospective, observational study

Twenty-three recommendations were summarized by the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery(ERAS)society for liver *** aim was to validate the protocol especially with regard to adherence and the impact on ***:Using the ERAS Interactive Audit System(EIAS),ERAS items were evaluated in patients undergoing liver *** a period of 26 months,304 patients were prospectively enrolled in an observational study(DRKS00017229).Of those,51 patients(non-ERAS)were enrolled before and 253 patients(ERAS)after the implementation of the ERAS *** adherence and complications were compared between the two ***:Overall adherence increased from 45.2%in the non-ERAS group to 62.7%in the ERAS group(P0.05).Overall complications decreased from 41.2%(n=21)in the non-ERAS group to 26.5%(n=67)in the ERAS group(P=0.0423),which was mainly due to the reduction of grade 1-2 complications from 17.6%(n=9)to 7.6%(n=19)(P=0.0322).As for patients undergoing open surgery,implementation of ERAS lead to a reduction of overall complications in patients scheduled for minimally invasive liver surgery(MILS)(P=0.036).Conclusions:Implementation of the ERAS protocol for liver surgery according to the ERAS guidelines of the ERAS Society reduced Clavien-Dindo grade 1-2 complications particularly in patients who underwent *** ERAS guidelines are beneficial for the outcome,while adherence to the various items has not yet been satisfactorily defined.

Agave salmiana ash and poultry eggshell powder as CaO sources were used for obtaining nanostructured hydro-xyapatite(HAP).The synthesis was carried out by the Green Chemistry Hydrothermal Biosynthesis at 180℃ with a pH of 5,by reacting CaO from Agave Salmiana ash and Eggshell powder,with dibasic caldium phosphate(CaH-PO_(4)+2H_(2)O)in an aqueous solution,with Aloe barbadensis *** product was characterized by X-ray dif-fraction,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM),and Transmission Electron Microscopy(TEM).The size and shape of the hydroxyapatite particles changed dramati-cally in the presence of Aloe *** crystals of Hydroxyapatite were observed when Eggshell powder and Agave salmiana ash were used as raw materials in the presence of the Aloe barbadensis *** with shapes of ribbons and plates from 1 micrometers to 8 micrometers were observed when using the eggshell powder in the presence of Aloe bar badensis and,in the case of Agave salmiana ash in the presence of Aloe bar-badensis,crystals with shapes of quadra ngular prisms and hexagonal(polyhedra)with sizes from 2 micrometers to 20 micrometers were *** was therefore successfully biosynthesized by a green and sus-tainable method that reduces the environmental impact.

AIM： To analyze the epidemiological, clinical and laboratory findings of infectious ***： A retrospective study on cases of infective keratitis, attended our institution from Mar. 2013 to Feb. 2015, was done at Mansoura Ophthalmic Center, Egypt. Corneal scrapings were performed and processed for direct microscopy and culture in appropriate media using standard laboratory ***： Out of 245 patients enrolled for study, 247 corneal scrapings were obtained. Ocular trauma was the most common predisposing factor （51.4%）, followed by diabetes mellitus （15.1%）. Cultures were positive in 110 scraping samples （44.5%）： 45.5% samples had pure fungal infection, 40% had pure bacterial infections and 10% had mixed fungal and bacterial growths. Acanthamoeba was detected in 5 （4.5%） samples. The most common fungal pathogen was Aspergillus spp. （41%）. The most common bacterial isolates were Staphylococcus aureus （38.2%） and Pseudomonas aeruginosa （21.8%）.CONCLUSION： Incidence of fungal keratitis is high in our region. Therapeutic approach can initially be based on clinical features and sensitivity/resistance patterns. Microbiological research should direct the antimicrobial treatment. Antibiotic resistance to fluoroquinolones and aminoglycosides is an important consideration.

The wash water generated from the surimi processing industry contains a large amount of proteases which are widely used in the food and biotechnology industries. Asymmetric polysulfone and polyethersulfone ultrafiltration （PSf-UF and PES-UF） membranes with three different polymer concentrations were screened for their abilities to recover proteases from surimi wash water. In- house fabricated membranes were prepared via a simple dry/wet phase inversion technique and were characterized in terms of permeability coefficient, membrane morphol- ogy and molecular weight cut-off （MWCO）. The ability of the UF membranes to remove commercial proteases was tested at various pressures （up to 10 bars）. The membrane with the best performance, 15 wt-% PSf-UF, was further tested with actual surimi wash water. The effect of the pH of the feed solution （4 to 8） in the pre-treatment stage was also evaluated to recover the highest amount of proteases. The highest retention of protease was 96% with a flux of 25.6 L/（mZ.h） which was achieved with the 15 wt-% PSf- UF membrane.
