Exploration of the Relationship between Adipocytokines, Tradition Risk Markers, Nontraditional Risk Markers and Anthropometric Measurements in T2DM Patients

Obesity is commonly associated with type 2 diabetes and vascular disease. Changes in body composition in the obese state lead to a dysregulation of secretion of adipocyte-secreted hormones known as adipokines. The current study aimed to assess the relative physiological correlation of adipocytokines with immunity in urban Saudi patients. The serum adipocytokine (leptin, adiponectin, resistin, visfatin and apelin), metabolic parameters (insulin, fasting glucose, HbA1c % (Glycated Hemoglobin) immunological indices (IgG, IgA, IgM and IgE) and complement factors (C3, C4) in different metabolic disorders states such as obesity and T2DM (Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus) were determined. A total 100 adult male subjects were enrolled including 30 healthy that served as a control, 25 Glucophage treated T2DM, 22 overweight (Body Mass Index (BMI) ≥ 25 - 29.99) and 23 obese (BMI ≥ 30) patients. The current results showed that serum adipocytokines status has altered in obesity and treated T2DM compared to healthy individuals. In addition to HbA1c %, serum visfatin was also the prominent biomarker adipokine in treated T2DM while leptin was the highest in obese (BMI ≥ 30). These metabolic disorders did not affect serum levels of the assessed immunity indices. Current knowledge suggests that adipokines provide potential therapeutic targets against type 2 diabetes and vascular disease. This study provides a strong association between adipocytokine and IR (Insulin Resistance). With the increasing epidemic of obesity and T2DM in Saudi Arabia, these adipocytokine markers that integrate metabolic and inflammatory signals may play important roles in the treatment and prevention of obesity and diabetes as well as planning of therapeutic strategies and the early detection of diabetes.

High-Intensity Interval Training and Diabetes Mellitus

Background: Diabetes mellitus often develops on the background of insulin resistance. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is included in the treatment of diabetes mellitus since it increases the sensitivity of tissues to insulin. Objective: This paper aimed to review published articles on the effects of HIIT on insulin resistance in diabetic patients. Method: A narrative literature review was undertaken. This review provides evidence from human studies, which highlights the beneficial effects of HIIT in both T1DM and T2DM patients. Conclusion: HIIT is generally safe and effective for people with diabetes mellitus and warrants further exploration.

The Effect of Sunscreens on Yeast to Prevent Ultraviolet Damage

The impacts of Ultraviolet (UV) radiation on the human body have received increased attention in previous years. The impacts are comprised of a series of illnesses, burns, and modifications in the genetic structures. Therefore, the current study aimed to identify the effect of sunscreens on yeast to prevent ultraviolet damage. The study uses two sunscreens with different sun protection factors to show how they differently protect the cells from the wrath of UV light. The experiment involves the use of yeast as the test organism since yeast has DNA that is used for reproduction by budding. UV light affects the growth of the bacteria and the limiting factor with the sunscreens. Six Petri dishes with agar were inoculated with yeast solution and put under different conditions and the growth results will be obtained. The experiment also showed how different clothes protect human from the UV radiations.

The Effect of Curcumin on alzheimer’s Disease

alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most prevalent type of dementia, affecting approximately 50 million individuals globally, and projections indicate that this number will increase to 139 million by 2050. It is one of the main factors contributing to cognitive decline in the aging population. Existing treatments do not produce the intended therapeutic benefits;therefore, it is imperative to identify alternative pharmacological and biological techniques. As the precise pathogenic pathways underlying AD remain unknown, existing therapies only address symptoms rather than promote prevention or treatment. Curcumin has attracted increasing attention owing to its distinct molecular structure. It affects antioxidant and inflammatory pathways as well as amyloid aggregation, which is one of the main characteristics of alzheimer’s disease. Many human ailments have been treated with medicinal plants, owing to their antioxidant properties. Curcumin has been used as a traditional food and medicine in Asia for a long time. Numerous studies have shown that curcumin has several advantageous properties including anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities. Numerous clinical trials have been conducted to clarify the impact of curcumin on cancers, owing to its documented effects on tumors. Recent findings suggest that curcumin may have therapeutic potential in the pathogenesis of alzheimer’s disease (AD). The overall memory of patients with AD has improved because of several benefits of curcumin, including decreased beta-amyloid plaques, delayed neuronal degradation, metal chelation, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, and decreased microglial production.

Efficacy of Metformin in Treating Complications Associated with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder that affects women of reproductive age and is characterized by hyperandrogenism, unpredictable ovulation, and a polycystic ovary shape. It is accompanied by metabolic problems, such as obesity and insulin resistance (IR). Factors contributing to PCOS include genetics, epigenetic changes, environmental factors, oxidative stress, chronic inflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, and metabolic abnormalities. Insulin resistance is the most prevalent classical phenotype, and metformin was the first insulin-sensitizing drug to be used to study its role. Metformin, derived from galegine, inhibits mitochondrial function, activates AMPK, enhances hepatic insulin sensitivity, and lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes in PCOS patients. It also affects tumor growth, with a 30% reduction in the overall tumor onsets in T2DM patients. Metformin treatment has been linked to low rates of multiple pregnancies, increased fetal concentrations of sex hormone-binding globulin, and decreased levels of inflammatory cytokines. It can reduce the risk of endometrial cancer, type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, dyslipidemia, and hypertension in women with PCOS.

Understanding Saudi Public’s Awareness, Perception, and Attitudes towards Genetically Modified Foods

Introduction: Recent technological developments have enabled many scientists to produce a wide variety of foods that meet consumers’ desires for diversity and quality. Genetically modified (GM) foods have long been a controversial topic, and consumer reliance on these foods depends on their trust in biotechnology institutions due to their lack of knowledge about the risks and benefits. This study aimed to assess the awareness, attitude, and perception of GM foods among the Saudi population, as well as to identify the association between age, gender, and education level in the studied population and their awareness level towards genetically modified foods. Method: Data was collected using a structured, pretested questionnaire drawn from previous studies, after obtaining written consent. The questionnaire included three sections focusing on personal data, general knowledge of GM foods, and perception, attitudes, and beliefs towards GM foods. Our study included 500 responses. Results: The majority of the participants were female, located in the central region, and had a university education. Most participants provided a correct definition of GM foods and indicated that they had heard about them, but were unsure if they had eaten these foods in the past. Their knowledge of these foods was good. Regarding opinions and attitudes towards these foods, the majority of participants were neutral. They approved of using GM foods because it produces more food, tastes better, and can be stored for a long time. In conclusion, the study highlights the urgent necessity to raise awareness and knowledge regarding genetically modified foods among the Saudi population. It emphasizes the importance of educating consumers about the potential advantages and risks associated with consuming such foods, enabling them to make informed decisions. The Influence of Organic and Conventional Food on Human Health

Organic food offers immense benefits to consumers as it contains a higher content of nutrients and antioxidants. The benefits of organic food over conventional products have been demonstrated by in-vitro experiments, whereby statistical analysis has shown that both types of food can have equivalent benefits. One of the important disadvantages of conventional food is that it contains heavy metals and also does not contribute toward prevention of cancer in consumers. It is not clear yet if consuming organic food combats obesity;we have attempted to gather some literature to clarify this aspect as well.

Measuring the Level of Knowledge and Awareness about Scoliosis in Saudi Arabia

Background: Scoliosis is a serious condition occurring in 1% to 4% of the population. This study was conducted and designed to educate society about scoliosis and measure the knowledge and awareness about it. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted on members of the Saudi Society who have consented to participate in this research between the 8th of January and 5th of February 2023. Results: A total of 427 people agreed to participate in the study. The highest percentage of the participants was female 69.1%. About 41% participants out of 427 were in the age group 18-25 years. Most of the participants were from the Middle Region. (71.9%) of participants were unfamiliar with scoliosis, while (72.1%) had no prior knowledge of the condition. Conclusion: This study indicates insufficient awareness and knowledge about scoliosis in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, further studies are needed to raise awareness about scoliosis and help people to learn more about this condition.

The Impact of Gluten-Free Diet on Hormonal Balance

This study investigated how a gluten-free diet affects hormones, with particular emphasis on cortisol, thyroid, insulin, and sex hormones. Background: For medical diseases such as non-celiac gluten sensitivity, wheat allergy, and celiac disease, a gluten-free diet is important. The main area of concern for research is how a gluten-free diet can affect hormone levels and related health consequences. A review of the body of research on this topic, including studies on hormone regulation and the impact of dietary modifications, is a part of the methodology. These findings imply that a gluten-free diet may have an impact on hormone levels, which may affect metabolism, weight, and general health. These implications include the need for additional studies, particularly in those with autoimmune illnesses, to completely comprehend the relationship between a gluten-free diet and hormone regulation.

Protective Effect of an Anthocyanin on alzheimer’s Disease

alzheimer’s, characterized by β-amyloid accumulation and tau hyperphosphorylation, is linked to inflammation, oxidative stress, and microglial activation, suggesting potential protective strategies. Studies have shown that natural polyphenolic anthocyanin components found in berries, such as cyanidin, can inhibit amyloid filament formation and modulate alzheimer’s disease are polyphenolic flavonoids, which are responsible for red, purple, and blue colors in various fruits, such as red cabbage and most berries. Here, we reviewed the protective effects of anthocyanins. It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, reduces NF-κB, and affects inflammatory signaling pathways. They also improve cognitive function, making them a potential protective strategy against AD.
