Molecular aggregates are receiving tremendous attention,demonstrating immense potential for biomedical applications in vitro and in *** instance,the molecular aggregates of conventional fluorophores influence the electronic excitation states of the aggregates,causing characteristic photophysical property changes.A fundamental understanding of this classical relationship between molecular aggregate structures and photophysics has allowed for innovative biological *** chemical characteristics of drug molecules generally trigger the formation of colloidal aggregates,and this is considered detrimental to the drug discovery ***,nano-sized supramolecular aggregates have been used in biomedical imaging and therapy owing to their optimal properties for in vivo utility,including enhanced cell permeability,passive tumor targeting,and convenient surface ***,we provide an overview of the recent trends in molecular aggregates for biomedical *** changes in photophysical properties of conventional fluorophores and their biological applications are discussed,followed by the effects of conventional drug molecule-aggregates on drug discovery and therapeutics *** trends in the investigation of biologically important analytes with aggregation-induced emission are discussed for conventional and unconventional ***,we discuss nano-sized supramolecular aggregates used in imaging and therapeutic purposes,with a focus on in vivo utilization.

kAT4IA:k-Means Assisted Training for Image Analysis of Field-Grown Plant Phenotypes

High-throughput phenotyping enables the efficient collection of plant trait data at *** example involves using imaging systems over key phases of a crop growing *** the resulting images provide rich data for statistical analyses of plant phenotypes,image processing for trait extraction is required as a *** methods for trait extraction are mainly based on supervised learning with human labeled data or semisupervised learning with a mixture of human labeled data and unsupervised ***,preparing a sufficiently large training data is both time and *** describe a self-supervised pipeline(kAT4IA)that uses k-means clustering on greenhouse images to construct training data for extracting and analyzing plant traits from an image-based field phenotyping *** kAT4IA pipeline includes these main steps:self-supervised training set construction,plant segmentation from images of field-grown plants,automatic separation of target plants,calculation of plant traits,and functional curve fitting of the extracted *** deal with the challenge of separating target plants from noisy backgrounds in field images,we describe a novel approach using row-cuts and column-cuts on images segmented by transform domain neural network learning,which utilizes plant pixels identified from greenhouse images to train a segmentation model for field *** approach is efficient and does not require human *** results show that kAT4IA is able to accurately extract plant pixels and estimate plant heights.

Currency-based Iterative Multi-Agent Bidding Mechanism Based on Genetic Algorithm

This paper introduces a multi-agent system which i nt egrates process planning and production scheduling, in order to increase the fle xibility of manufacturing systems in coping with rapid changes in dynamic market and dealing with internal uncertainties such as machine breakdown or resources shortage. This system consists of various autonomous agents, each of which has t he capability of communicating with one another and making decisions based on it s knowledge and if necessary on information provided by other agents. Machine ag ents which represent the machines play an important role in the system in that t hey negotiate with each other to bid for jobs. An iterative bidding mechanism is proposed to facilitate the process of job assignment to machines and handle the negotiation between agents. This mechanism enables near optimal process plans a nd production schedules to be produced concurrently, so that dynamic changes in the market can be coped with at a minimum cost, and the utilisation of manufactu ring resources can be optimised. In addition, a currency scheme with currency-l ike metrics is proposed to encourage or prohibit machine agents to put forward t heir bids for the jobs announced. The values of the metrics are adjusted iterati vely so as to obtain an integrated plan and schedule which result in the minimum total production cost while satisfying products due dates. To deal with the optimisation problem, i.e. to what degree and how the currencies should be adj usted in each iteration, a genetic algorithm (GA) is developed. Comparisons are made between GA approach and simulated annealing (SA) optimisation technique.

Objectives: We describe a novel rehabilitation tool for patients with homonymo us hemianopia based on a visual search (VS) paradigm that is portable, inexpensi ve, and easy to deploy. We hypothesised that by training patients to improve the efficiency of eye movements made in their blind field their disability would be alleviated. Methods: Twenty nine patients with homonymous visual field defects (HVFD) without neglect practised VS paradigms in 20 daily sessions over one mont h. Search fields comprising randomly positioned target and distracter elements, differing by a single feature, were displayed for three seconds on a dedicated t elevision monitor in the patients'homes. Improvements were assessed by examinin g response time (RT), error rates in VS, perimetric visual fields (VFs) and visu al search fields (VSFs), before and after treatment. Functional improvements wer e measured using objective visual tasks which represented activities of daily li ving (ADL) and a subjective questionnaire. Results: As a group the patients had significantly shorter mean RT in VS after training (P hey had high initial error rates which improved with training. Patients performe d ADL tasks significantly faster after training and reported significant subject ive improvements. There was no concomitant enlargement of the VF, but there was a small but significant enlargement of the VSF. Conclusion: Patients can improve VS with practice. This usually involves shorter RTs, but occasionally a longer RT in a complex speed- accuracy trade-off. These changes translate to improved overall visual functi on, assessed objectively and subjectively, suggesting that they represent robust training effects. Background/Purpose: Gastroesophageal reflux is common in children with severe neurological impairment. Fundoplication may produce symptomatic improvement but has a high failure rate. Esophagogastric dissociation (EGD) is an alternative procedure for treatment of gastroesophageal reflux. The aim of this study is to evaluate the results of EGD in our institution and compare them with a neurologically matched group of children who had Nissen fundoplication. Methods: Twenty consecutive patients who had EGD were retrospectively evaluated and the results were compared with a neurologically matched group of 20 consecutive patients who had Nissen fundoplication. Results: Twenty patients had EGD, 17 as a primary procedure. There was no operative mortality but 5 have died of other causes. Resolution of reflux-associated symptoms occurred in all patients. Of the 15 survivors, 5 remain on antireflux medication. Twenty patients had fundoplication. There was no operative mortality, but 8 patients have died of other causes. Failure occurred in 5 patients necessitating further surgery. Of the 10 unreoperated survivors, 6 remain on antireflux medication. Conclusions: Esophagogastric dissociation is an effective antireflux procedure when compared with fundoplication. It has a lower failure rate. We recommend EGD as a primary procedure in selected children with severe neurological impairment.
