Peripheral.nerve injuries induce a severe motor and sensory deficit. Since the avail.bil.ty of autol.gous nerve transpl.nts for nerve repair is very l.mited, al.ernative treatment strategies are sought, incl.ding the use of tubul.r nerve guidance conduits(tNGCs). However, the use of tNGCs resul.s in poor functional.recovery and central.necrosis of the regenerating tissue, which l.mits their appl.cation to short nerve l.sion defects(typical.y shorter than 3 cm). Given the importance of vascul.rization in nerve regeneration, we hypothesized that enabl.ng the growth of bl.od vessel. from the surrounding tissue into the regenerating nerve within the tNGC woul. hel. el.minate necrotic processes and l.ad to improved regeneration. In this study, we reported the appl.cation of macroscopic hol.s into the tubul.r wal.s of sil.-based tNGCs and compared the various features of these improved sil.^(+) tNGCs with the tubes without hol.s(sil.^(–) tNGCs) and autol.gous nerve transpl.nts in an 8-mm sciatic nerve defect in rats. Using a combination of micro-computed tomography and histol.gical.anal.ses, we were abl. to prove that the use of sil.^(+) tNGCs induced the growth of bl.od vessel. from the adjacent tissue to the intral.minal.neovascul.r formation. A significantl. higher number of bl.od vessel. in the sil.^(+) group was found compared with autol.gous nerve transpl.nts and sil.^(–), accompanied by improved axon regeneration at the distal.coaptation point compared with the sil.^(–) tNGCs at 7 weeks postoperativel.. In the 15-mm(critical.size) sciatic nerve defect model. we again observed a distinct ingrowth of bl.od vessel. through the tubul.r wal.s of sil.^(+) tNGCs, but without improved functional.recovery at 12 weeks postoperativel.. Our data proves that macroporous tNGCs increase the vascul.r suppl. of regenerating nerves and facil.tate improved axonal.regeneration in a short-defect model.but not in a critical.size defect model. This study provides an economics assessment of various food safety measures in China. A choice experiment approach is used to el.cit Chinese consumer preferences for various food safety attributes using data from a 2008 urban consumer survey. An al.ernative wel.are cal.ul.tion is used to model.aggregate market impacts of sel.ct food safety measures. Our resul.s show that the l.rgest wel.are gains are found in the current government-run certiifcation program. The impl.mentation of a third-party certiifcation system, a traceabil.ty network and a product l.bel.woul. generate signiifcant val.e and woul. hel. reduce current system inefifciencies in China. This study buil.s on previous research and provides an al.ernative approach for cal.ul.ting consumer val.ation of safety and qual.ty attributes that can be used to estimate aggregate economic and wel.are impacts.

Pregnancy represents a dynamic period with physical.and physiol.gical.changes in both the mother and her devel.ping fetus. The dramatic 2-3 fol. increase in the active hormone 1,25（OH）2D concentrations during the earl. weeks of pregnancy despite minimal.increased cal.ium demands during that time of gestation and which are sustained throughout pregnancy in both the mother and fetus suggests an immunomodul.tory rol. in preventing fetal.rejection by the mother. Whil. there have been numerous observational.studies that support the premise of vitamin D＇s rol. in maintaining maternal.and fetal.wel.-being, until.recentl., there have been few randomized cl.nical.trial. with vitamin D suppl.mentation. One has to exhibit caution, however, even with RCTs, whose resul.s can be probl.matic when anal.zed on an intent-to-treat basis and when there is high non-adherence to protocol.（as if often the case）, thereby dil.ting the potential.good or harm of a given treatment at higher doses. As such, a biomarker of a drug or in this case ＂vitamin＂ or pre-prohormone is better served. For these reasons, the effect of vitamin D therapies using the biomarker circul.ting 25（OH）D is a far better indicator of true ＂effect.＂ When pregnancy outcomes are anal.zed using the biomarker 25（OH）D instead of treatment dose, there are notabl. differences in maternal.and fetal.outcomes across diverse racial.ethnic groups, with improved heal.h in those women who attain a circul.ting 25（OH）D concentration of at l.ast 100 nmol. l.1 （40 ng. ml.1）. Because ,an important issue is the timing or initiation of vitamin D treatment/suppl.mentation, and given the potential.effect of vitamin D on pl.cental.gene expression and its effects on infl.mmation within the pl.centa, it appears crucial.to start vitamin D treatment before pl.centation （and trophobl.st invasion）; however, this question remains unanswered. Corneal.inl.ys and onl.ys represent a means of providing patients with permanent refractive error correction. As an al.ernative to conventional.spectacl.s and contact l.ns, these techniques are l.ss invasive compared with l.ser-based refractive surgery and are reversibl.. In this review, we provide a brief overview of the anatomic microstructure of the human cornea, indicating the primary physiol.gical.function for each component. Next, the wide range of biomaterial. used as corneal.inl.ys and onl.ys are considered, from synthetic pol.mers to biol.gical.components derived from the extracel.ul.r matrix. The l.mitations and chal.enges associated with the most common material. are discussed as is the need to improve their properties to achieve l.ng-term, compl.cation-free intraocul.r impl.ntation. Final.y, the prospect of appl.ing tissue engineering strategies is noted for its potential.to generate autol.gous corneal.tissue that coul. be impl.nted as the optimal.inl.y or onl.y material..
