Galaxy Spectra Neural Networks(GaSNets). I. Searching for Strong Lens Candidates in eBOSS Spectra Using Deep Learning

With the advent of new spectroscopic surveys from ground and space,observing up to hundreds of millions of galaxies,spectra classification will become overwhelming for standard analysis *** prepare for this challenge,we introduce a family of deep learning tools to classify features in one-dimensional *** the first application of these Galaxy Spectra neural Networks(Ga SNets),we focus on tools specialized in identifying emission lines from strongly lensed star-forming galaxies in the e BOSS *** first discuss the training and testing of these networks and define a threshold probability,PL,of 95%for the high-quality event ***,using a previous set of spectroscopically selected strong lenses from e BOSS,confirmed with the Hubble Space Telescope(HST),we estimate a completeness of~80%as the fraction of lenses recovered above the adopted *** finally apply the Ga SNets to~1.3M eBOSS spectra to collect the first list of~430 new high-quality candidates identified with deep learning from spectroscopy and visually graded as highly probable real events.A preliminary check against ground-based observations tentatively shows that this sample has a confirmation rate of 38%,in line with previous samples selected with standard(no deep learning)classification tools and confirmed by the *** first test shows that machine learning can be efficiently extended to feature recognition in the wavelength space,which will be crucial for future surveys like 4MOST,DESI,Euclid,and the China Space Station Telescope.

HOW ARE PRODUCT-SERVICE COMBINED OFFERS PROVIDED IN GERMANY AND ITALY?ANALYSIS WITH COMPANY SIZES AND COUNTRIES

A new business concept that offers products and services in a different way of traditional product-sales businesses is getting more attention especially in manufacturing industries. This paper investigates how this new business by means of integration of products and services is achieved in Germany and Italy. In addition, it analyzes the differences according to the company sizes. The results include that this type of business is in many cases motivated by their focus on customers and often consists of physical products and their maintenance. The Italian companies, as opposed to the German ones, often design their physical products specifically for this type of offers. From the analysis based on the size difference, small companies are found to achieve specific design for this type of offers while owning physical products. There do not seem to be any established methods or tools developed to support the development of such offers and within such methods/tools there would be room for more adaptation in form of physical product design.

Constraining the Hubble constant to a precision of about 1% using multi-band dark standard siren detections

Gravitational wave signal from the inspiral of stellar-mass binary black hole can be used as standard sirens to perform cosmological *** inspiral covers a wide range of frequency bands,from the millihertz band to the audio-band,allowing for detections by both space-borne and ground-based gravitational wave *** this work,we conduct a comprehensive study on the ability to constrain the Hubble constant using the dark standard sirens,or gravitational wave events that lack electromagnetic *** acquire the redshift information,we weight the galaxies within the localization error box with photometric information from several bands and use them as a proxy for the binary black hole *** discover that Tian Qin is expected to constrain the Hubble constant to a precision of roughly 30%through detections of 10 gravitational wave events;in the most optimistic case,the Hubble constant can be constrained to a precision of<10%,assuming Tian Qin I+*** the optimistic case,the multi-detector network of Tian Qin and LISA is capable of constraining the Hubble constant to within 5%*** is worth highlighting that the multi-band network of Tian Qin and Einstein Telescope is capable of constraining the Hubble constant to a precision of about 1%.We conclude that inferring the Hubble constant without bias from photo-z galaxy catalog is achievable,and we also demonstrate self-consistency using the P-P *** the other hand,high-quality spectroscopic redshift information is crucial for improving the estimation precision of Hubble constant.

The Kilo Degree Survey(Ki DS)is currently the only sky survey providing optical(ugri)plus near-infrared(NIR,ZY H JKS)seeing matched photometry over an area larger than 1000 *** is obtained by incorporating the NIR data from the VISTA Kilo Degree Infrared Galaxy(VIKING)survey,covering the same Ki DS *** such,the Ki DS multi-wavelength photometry represents a unique dataset to test the ability of stellar population models to return robust photometric stellar mass(M_(*))and star-formation rate(SFR)*** we use a spectroscopic sample of galaxies for which we possess ugri ZY JHK_(s)“gaussianized”magnitudes from Ki DS data release *** fit the spectral energy distribution from the 9-band photometry using:(1)three different popular libraries of stellar population templates,(2)single burst,simple and delayed exponential star-formation history models,and(3)a wide range of priors on age and *** template fitting codes we use two popular softwares:Le Phare and *** investigate the variance of the stellar masses and the star-formation rates from the different combinations of templates,star formation recipes and codes to assess the stability of these estimates and define some“robust”median quantities to be included in the upcoming Ki DS data *** a science validation test,we derive the mass function,the star formation rate function,and the SFR-M_(*)relation for a low-redshift(z<0.5)sample of galaxies,that result in excellent agreement with previous literature *** final catalog,containing~290000 galaxies with redshift 0.01

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, spleen and psoriasis:New aspects of low-grade chronic inflammation

AIM: To investigate spleen status in psoriasis and itsrelationship with hepatic steatosis, Psoriasis Area and Severity Index, and insulin ***: Seventy-nine psoriatic patients who were not suffering from any chronic inflammatory disease were retrospectively selected for inclusion in this study,and their complete medical records were *** age- and sex-matched group of 80 non-psoriatic,obese patients was included as a control. The following relevant data were collected: age, sex, weight, height,body mass index, waist circumference, blood pressure,insulin resistance status, age at psoriasis onset, and severity of psoriasis. Abdominal ultrasonography was performed to determine spleen longitudinal diameter(SLD), and hepatic steatosis ***: The SLD of control obese patients was greater than that of psoriatic subjects(P = 0.013),but body mass index predicted the size of the spleen in psoriatic patients(P < 0.001). The SLD of psoriatic patients with normal weight was significantly reduced with respect to the overweight/obese psoriatic patients(P = 0.002). A multiple regression analysis revealed that body mass index was a unique predictor of the spleen size(P < 0.001). Finally, the disease duration predicted the spleen size in psoriatic subjects(P =0.038).CONCLUSION: This study shows a correlation between the SLD and the duration of psoriasis.

Empirical assessment of the role of the Sun in climate change using balanced multi-proxy solar records

The role of the Sun in climate change is hotly *** studies suggest its impact is significant,while others suggest it is *** Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC)supports the latter view and suggests that nearly 100%of the observed surface warming from 1850–1900 to 2020 is due to anthropogenic ***,the IPCC’s conclusions are based solely on computer simulations made with global climate models(GCMs)forced with a total solar irradiance(TSI)record showing a low multi-decadal and secular *** same models also assume that the Sun affects the climate system only through radiative forcing–such as TSI–even though the climate could also be affected by other solar *** this paper I propose three“balanced”multi-proxy models of total solar activity(TSA)that consider all main solar proxies proposed in scientific *** optimal signature on global and sea surface temperature records is assessed together with those produced by the anthropogenic and volcanic radiative forcing functions adopted by the CMIP6 *** is done by using a basic energy balance model calibrated with a differential multi-linear regression methodology,which allows the climate system to respond to the solar input differently than to radiative forcings alone,and to evaluate the climate’s characteristic time-response as *** proposed methodology reproduces the results of the CMIP6 GCMs when their original forcing functions are applied under similar physical conditions,indicating that,in such a scenario,the likely range of the equilibrium climate sensitivity(ECS)could be 1.4℃to 2.8℃,with a mean of 2.1℃(using the HadCRUT5 temperature record),which is compatible with the low-ECS CMIP6 GCM ***,if the proposed solar records are used as TSA proxies and the climatic sensitivity to them is allowed to differ from the climatic sensitivity to radiative forcings,a much greater solar impact on climate change is found,along with a significant

Impacts and risks of“realistic”global warming projections for the 21st century

The IPCC AR6 assessment of the impacts and risks associated with projected climate changes for the 21st century is both alarming and *** to computer projections,global surface temperature may warm from 1.3℃to 8.0℃by 2100,depending on the global climate model(GCM)and the shared socioeconomic pathway(SSP)scenario used for the *** climate-change hazards are estimated to be high and very high if the global surface temperature rises,respectively,more than 2.0℃and 3.0℃above pre-industrial *** studies,however,showed that a substantial number of CMIP6 GCMs run“too hot”because they appear to be too sensitive to radiative forcing,and that the high/extreme emission scenarios SSP3-7.0 and SSP5-8.5 are to be rejected because judged to be unlikely and highly unlikely,***,the IPCC AR6 mostly focused on such alarmistic scenarios for risk *** paper examines the impacts and risks of“realistic”climate change projections for the 21st century generated by assessing the theoretical models and integrating them with the existing empirical knowledge on global warming and the various natural cycles of climate change that have been recorded by a variety of scientists and *** is achieved by combining the SSP2-4.5 scenario(which is the most likely SSP according to the current policies reported by the International Energy Agency)and empirically optimized climate *** to recent research,the GCM macro-ensemble that best hindcast the global surface warming observed from 1980 to 1990 to 2012–2022 should be made up of models that are characterized by a low equilibrium climate sensitivity(ECS)(1.5℃

Effect of template shape on metal nanoimprinting:a dislocation dynamics study

Dislocation dynamics simulations are performed to investigate the effect of template shape on the nanoimprinting of metal layers. To this end, metal thin films are imprinted by a rigid template made of an array of equispaced indenters of various shapes, i.e., rectangular, wedge, and circular. The geometry of the indenters is chosen such that the contact area is approximately the same at the final imprinting depth. Results show that, for all template shapes, the final patterns strongly depend on the dislocation activity, and that each imprint differs from the neighboring ones. Large material pile ups appear between the imprints, such that polishing of the metal layer is suggested for application of the patterns in electronics. Rectangular indenters require the lowest imprinting force and achieve the deepest retained imprints.

Production of metallic iron nanoparticles in a baffled stirred tank reactor: Optimization via computational fluid dynamics simulation

The aim of this work is to optimize iron nanoparticle production in stirred tank reactors equipped with two classical impellers:Rushton and four-pitched blade turbines,which are largely used in batch industrial synthesis and efficient *** main operative parameters of nanoparticle synthesis are the precursor initial concentration,reducing agent/precursor molar ratio,impeller-tank clearance,and impeller rotational *** parameters were varied during the synthesis to find the optimal operating values based on the Fe(0)(%)production,zeta potential,particle size distribution,and powder X-ray diffraction pattern *** found that the optimal operating conditions for nanoparticle production were an impeller velocity of 1500 rpm,initial iron precursor concentration of 20 mM,molar ratio of reducing agent to iron precursor of 3 mol/mol,and impeller clearance of 0.25 and 0.4 times the vessel diameter for Rushton and four-pitched blade impellers,*** these conditions achieved a total conversion of 0.94-0.98 and yielded a product with a unimodal size distribution and average diameters in the range 30-50 *** computational fluid dynamics results agreed with the expectations,and the obtained mixing Damkohler numbers show that the process is mixed controlled.
