Pancreatico-jejunal anastomosis after pancreato- duodenectomy still represents the Achilles＇ heel of the proce- dure： the failure of this anastomosis is relatively common and it is the main cause of post-operative morbidity and mortality. Studies have described different reconstruction strategies for the control of the development of post-operative pancreatic fistula, but the strategy to obtain a safer pancreatico-jejunal anastomosis is still far from satisfaction. We report a novel variation of the invagination technique based on preliminary clinical experience in 8 patients who underwent pancreatico- jejunal anastomosis after pancreatoduodenectomy in our hepatobiliopancreatic center from 2008 to 2014. The varia- tion could obtain a safer intestinal invagination for a solid pancreatico-jejunal anastomosis even in the presence of soft pancreatic remnant.

The aim of this paper is to present a new proposal for the classification of Academic institutions in terms of quality of teaching. Our methodological proposal borrows concepts from operational risk, such as scorecard models, employed to assess University performances, on the basis of both the perceived and the actual quality. We propose to summarize opinion data using new non parametric indexes able to exploit efficiently the ordinal nature of the analysed variables and to integrate different sources of data. In particular we show how web survey methods can improve the quality and robustness of collected data, especially when integrated with students career data. Empirical evidence is given on the basis of real data from the University of Pavia.

The main aim of this paper is to compare the stability, in terms of systemic risk, of conventional and Islamic banking systems. To this aim, we propose correlation network models for stock market returns based on graphical Gaussian distributions, which allows us to capture the contagion effects that move along countries. We also consider Bayesian graphical models, to account for model uncertainty in the measurement of financial systems interconnectedness. Our proposed model is applied to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region banking sector, characterized by the presence of both conventional and Islamic banks, for the period from 2007 to the beginning of 2014. Our empirical findings show that there are differences in the systemic risk and stability of the two banking systems during crisis times. In addition, the differences are subject to country specific effects that are amplified during crisis period.

This contribution deals with a generative approach for the analysis of textual data. Instead of creating heuristic rules forthe representation of documents and word counts, we employ a distribution able to model words along texts considering different topics. In this regard, following Minka proposal (2003), we implement a Dirichlet Compound Multinomial (DCM) distribution, then we propose an extension called sbDCM that takes explicitly into account the different latent topics that compound the document. We follow two alternative approaches: on one hand the topics can be unknown, thus to be estimated on the basis of the data, on the other hand topics are determined in advance on the basis of a predefined ontological schema. The two possible approaches are assessed on the basis of real data.

Trends in the rates of hospitalizations for acute stroke among patients over 90 years of age with atrial fibrillation in the United States： from 2005 to 2014

Background Acute stroke （AS） rates in patients over 90 years of age （very elderly） with atrial fibrillation （AF） in the United States（US） are not known. We assessed trends in hospitalizations for AS among very elderly with AF in the US from 2005 to 2014. Methods Weused the nationwide inpatient sample （NIS） from the USA; 2005-2014. AF and AS diagnoses were abstracted using international classifica-tion of diseases, 9th Revision, clinical modification （ICD-9-CM） codes. Results From 2005 to 2014, 3,606,073 hospitalizations of veryelderly with AF were reported. Of these, 188,948 hospitalizations （141,822 hospitalizations in women and 47,126 hospitalizations in men）had AS as the primary diagnosis. Age adjusted AS hospitalizations increased in the total cohort （3217/million in 2005 to 3871/million in2014）, in women （3540/million in 2005 to 4487/million in 2014） and in men （2490/million in 2005 to 3173/million in 2014）（P 〈 0.001）.Anticoagnlation rates increased in women （8% in 2005 to 19.9% in 2014） and in men （8.9% in 2005 to 21.6% in 2014）. AS rates, thoughnumerically lower than the total cohort, showed an increasing trend in anticoagnlated patients as well （all anticoagulated patients： 212/millionin 2005 to 513/million in 2014; anticoagulated women： 224/million in 2005 to 529/million in 2014, anticoagnlated men： 184/million in 2005to 518/million in 2014）. Conclusions There is an increasing trend in AS hospitalizations among nonagenarians with AF in the US despiteimproving utilization of anticoagulants in this patient population. The etiologies driving this alarming trend are unclear and require fur-ther study.

This work proposes the synthesis of the 5%wt Ru on MWCNT catalyst and the influence of feed rate and testing variables for low-temperature oxidation affecting the CO2 yield. Morphology and incorporation of the nanoparticles in carbon nanotubes were investigated by specific surface area (BET method);thermogravimetric analyses (TGA);X-ray diffraction;Raman spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and XPS. The conversions of CO and O2 were mostly 100% in groups C1 and C2 (temperature between 200 and 500°C with low WHSV). In order to assess the effect of mass on catalytic activity, condition C3 was tested at even lower temperatures. In the tested catalyst, high activity (100% CO and O2 conversion) was observed, keeping it active under reaction conditions, suggesting oxi-reduction of the RuO2 at surface without affecting the MWCNT but Lewis acid influencing the CO2 yield.

Monetary policies, either actual or perceived, cause changes in monetary interest rates. These changes impact the economy through financial institutions, which react to changes in the monetary rates with changes in their administered rates, on both deposits and lendings. The dynamics of administered bank interest rates in response to changes in money market rates is essential to examine the impact of monetary policies on the economy. Chong et al. (2006) proposed an error correction model to study such impact, using data previous to the recent financial crisis. In this paper we examine the validity of the model in the recent time period, characterized by very low monetary rates. The current state of close-to-zero monetary rates is of particular relevance, as it has never been studied before. Our main contribution is a novel, more parsimonious, model and a predictive performance assessment methodology, which allows comparing it with the error correction model.
