BACKGROUND:There is limited evidence for emergency physicians and emergency trauma surgeons regarding the determinants of early and rapid assessment of older adult in-hospital mortality due to earthquakes.This study explored factors related to the early and rapid assessment of the mortality among older adult earthquake trauma patients(OAETPs)and created a screening model.METHODS:Data on 7,308 OAETPs from the West China Earthquake Patients Database were analyzed retrospectively.The 35 variables that can be obtained rapidly on arrival at the hospital were collected.Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator(LASSO)regression analysis was performed.Then,the nomogram for assessing the mortality of OAETPs was constructed.RESULTS:We identified 10 independent mortality-related factors that contributed to the in-hospital mortality of OAETPs.The 10 factors included age(odds ratio[OR]=1.061,95%confidence interval[CI]:1.031-1.090),dementia(OR=5.146,95%CI:1.169-17.856),coronary heart disease(CHD;OR=23.441,95%CI:4.799-83.927),malignant tumor(OR=8.497,95%CI:3.583-17.967),deep vein thrombosis(DVT;OR=7.110,95%CI:1.369-27.168),chronic kidney disease(CKD;OR=11.783,95%CI:5.419-24.407),pulse rate(PR;OR=1.036,95%CI:1.022-1.048),mean artery pressure(MAP;OR=0.960,95%CI:0.945-0.975),Glasgow Coma Scale(GCS;OR=0.864,95%CI:0.760-0.972),and Triage Revised Trauma Score(T-RTS,OR=0.485,95%CI:0.351-0.696).CONCLUSION:The 10 mortality-related factors could be quickly obtained on hospital arrival and should be the focal point of future earthquake response strategies regarding hospitalized older adults with trauma.A nomogram was constructed based on the factors for screening OAETPs with a higher risk of in-hospital mortality.

Visualization of MF/Diesel RCCI Combustion Process and Soot Emission

Based on the optical engine,the ignition characteristics,combustion process and soot emission characteristics of diesel under different 2-Methylfuran(MF) atmospheres were investigated by high-speed photography and in-cylinder combustion analysis technology.The results show that at the same main injection timing,the ignition time of reactivity controlled compression ignition(RCCI) combustion mode is earlier than pure diesel combustion,and the ignition point is concentrated near the nozzle.Diesel acts as a spark plug to ignite the mixture,but the flame develops slowly in the early stages and the pressure in the cylinder rises slowly.Compared with pure diesel,RCCI combustion model has smaller peak values of in-cylinder pressure and heat release rate,shorter ignition delay period,earlier combustion phase and shorter combustion duration.At main spray time at 6℃A BTDC and 12℃A BTDC,with the increase of MF premixing ratio from 0 to 0.75,the peak cylinder pressure decreased by 19.6% and 26% respectively.In addition,with the increase of the MF heat value ratio,the area of KL factor> 1.5 in the combustion chamber decreased and the space integral natural luminescence(SINL) peak value decreased by 48.37%,and the soot formation rate and yield decreased significantly.However,when the MF heat value ratio was too large(75% of the total calorific value),the ignition delay period increased,and misfire occurred at the main injection timing of 0℃A BTDC.The RCCI mode of MF/diesel dual fuel has better stability,and better control effect can be obtained at different main inj ection timing.

Graphene quantum dots modulated solution-derived InGaO thin-film transistors and stress stability exploration

Graphene quantum dots(GQDs)doped InGaO(IGO)thin film transistors(TFTs)have been fabricated based on solution-driven ZrO_(x) as gate dielectrics.Compare to pure IGO TFTs,superior electrical performance of the GQDs-IGO TFTs can be achieved by adjusting the doping concentration.It has been demonstrated that GQDs-modified IGO TFTs devices with GQDs doping content of0.3 mg·ml^(-1)have the optimized performances,including field-effect mobility(μ_(FE))of 22.02 cm^(2)·V^(-1)·s^(-1),on/off current ratio(I_(on)/I_(off))of 7.06×10^(7),subthreshold swing(SS)of 0.09 V·dec^(-1),hysteresis of 0.04 V and interfacial trap states(D_(it))of 1.03×10^(12)cm^(-2).In addition,bias stress and illumination stress tests have been performed and excellent stability has been achieved for optimized GQDs-IGO-TFTs.The GQDs-IGO TFTs device showed smaller threshold voltage shift of 0.12 and 0.04 V under positive bias stress(PBS)test and negative bias stress(NBS)test for 3600 s,respectively.And it showed smaller threshold voltage shift of 0.27 and 0.34 V for red light under the PBS and NBS test for 3600 s,respectively.Meanwhile,it showed smaller threshold voltage shift of0.20 and 0.22 V for green light under PBS and NBS test for3600 s,respectively.It also showed smaller threshold voltage shift of 0.17 and 0.12 V for blue under the positive bias illumination stress(PBIS)test and negative bias illumination stress(NBIS)test for 3600 s,respectively.Lowfrequency noise(LFN)characteristics of GQDs-IGO/ZrO_(x)TFTs indicated that the noise source came from the fluctuations in mobility.Finally,a low voltage resistor-loaded unipolar inverter has been built based on GQDs-IGO/ZrO_(x)TFT,demonstrating good dynamic response behavior and a maximum gain of 7.4.These experimental results have suggested that solution-processed GQDs-IGO/ZrO_(x)TFT may envision potential applications in low-cost and large-area electronics.

Changing patterns of urban-rural nutrient flows in China:driving forces and options

Nutrient recycling has been practiced for thousands of years in China to maintain food production without environmental pollution. In the past three decades, however, the traditional nutrient recycling systems have been replaced with waste treatment systems, which have resulted in rapid and severe environmental pollution. By analyzing the primary driving forces of the changing nutrient flows(technology, labor costs, food supplies, fertilizer demands, environmental quality, human health, and public awareness), this paper argues that technology fundamentally motivated the nutrient-recycling strategy to address the malnutrition problem in traditional societies but has constrained the reconstruction of nutrient recycling systems in modern cities. With the availability of synthetic fertilizers in modern society, the lack of interdisciplinary views in policy making for nutrient management is the root cause of today's environmental situation. Ongoing fast urbanization has concentrated more nutrients in urban areas, creating the need for a national nutrient management plan to coordinate multiple ministries and fix the uncoupled nutrient cycling between urban and rural systems. Rebuilding the traditional nutrient-recycling systems is an environmentally and economically effective solution. There are three fundamental technological barriers to reconstructing the nutrient recycling systems, as follows: userfriendly toilets, the separation of sewage pipelines, and easy-to-use organic fertilizers made from human manure or other organic waste. Overcoming these barriers requires building institutional mechanisms,developing the necessary infrastructure, creating research funding, and providing open experimental platforms for technological development.

Inducement of ER Stress by PAD Inhibitor BB-Cl-Amidine to Effectively Kill AML Cells

Objective Acute myeloid leukemia(AML)is a highly heterogeneous and recurrent hematological malignancy.Despite the emergence of novel chemotherapy drugs,AML patients’complete remission(CR)remains unsatisfactory.Consequently,it is imperative to discover new therapeutic targets or medications to treat AML.Such epigenetic changes like DNA methylation and histone modification play vital roles in AML.Peptidylarginine deminase(PAD)is a protein family of histone demethylases,among which the PAD2 and PAD4 expression have been demonstrated to be elevated in AML patients,thus suggesting a potential role of PADs in the development or maintenance of AML and the potential for the identification of novel therapeutic targets.Methods AML cells were treated in vitro with the pan-PAD inhibitor BB-Cl-Amidine(BB-Cl-A).The AML cell lines were effectively induced into apoptosis by BB-Cl-A.However,the PAD4-specific inhibitor GSK484 did not.Results PAD2 played a significant role in AML.Furthermore,we found that BB-Cl-A could activate the endoplasmic reticulum(ER)stress response,as evidenced by an increase in phosphorylated PERK(p-PERK)and eIF2α(p-eIF2α).As a result of the ER stress activation,the BB-Cl-A effectively induced apoptosis in the AML cells.Conclusion Our findings indicated that PAD2 plays a role in ER homeostasis maintenance and apoptosis prevention.Therefore,targeting PAD2 with BB-Cl-A could represent a novel therapeutic strategy for treating AML.

In this editorial we comment on the review by Wang et al published in the recent issue of the World Journal of Gastroenterology in 2023.Small extracellular vesicles(exosomes)play important roles in the tumor microenvironment.In this review,the authors introduce the following points:(1)The composition and function of exosomal microRNAs(miRNAs)of different cell origins in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC);(2)the crosstalk between exosomal miRNAs from stromal cells and immune cells in the tumor microenvironment and the progression of HCC;and(3)the potential applicability of exosomal miRNAs derived from mesenchymal stem cells in the treatment of HCC.In addition,the potential applicability of exosomal miRNAs derived from mesenchymal stem cells in the treatment of HCC was introduced.In this review,the authors give us an overview of the exosomal RNA and summarize the function of exosomal RNA in HCC,which provides a deeper understanding of exosomal miRNAs to the readers.

Analgesic Activity of Jin Ling Zi Powder and Its Single Herbs:A Serum Metabonomics Study

Objective:To compare the analgesic effect of Jin Ling Zi Powder(JLZ)and its two single herbs.Methods:The hot plate method was used to induce pain.Totally 36 mice were randomly divided into 6 groups by a complete random design,including control,model,aspirin(ASP,0.14 g/kg body weight),JLZ(14 g/kg body weight),Corydalis yanhusuo(YHS,14 g/kg body weight),and Toosendan Fructus(TF,14 g/kg body weight)groups,6 mice in each group.The mice in the control and model groups were given the same volume of saline,daily for 2 consecutive weeks.At 30,60,90,and 120 min after the last administration,the pain threshold of mice in each group was measured,and the improvement rate of pain threshold was calculated.Serum endogenous metabolites were analyzed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry(GC–MS).Results:There was no statistical difference in pain threshold among groups before administration(P>0.05).After 2 weeks of administration,compared with the model group,the pain threshold in JLZ,YHS,TF and ASP groups were increased to varying degrees(Pnine metabolism,valine,leucine and isoleucine biosynthesis,aminoacyl-t RNA biosynthesis and inositol phosphate metabolism.Conclusions:The analgesic mechanism of JLZ and YHS was mainly due to the combination of glycine and its receptor,producing post-synaptic potential,reducing the excitability of neurons,and weakening the afferent effect of painful information.

Multi-Function Uninterrupted Phase-Separation Passing System and its Control Method

At present, sudden load changes and terminal voltage fluctuations are two primary problems in the uninterrupted phase-separation passing (UPP) system. To further enhance the reliability of the UPP system and compensate for the voltage sag at the end of the traction power supply network caused by the suddenly connection of locomotive to the power grid, a multi-function uninterrupted phase-separation passing system (MUPPS) and its control strategy are proposed. It has the advantages of linear load change and improving power supply reliability. First, the topology and working principles of a MUPPS are studied;secondly, the current variation characteristics of the bridge arm when the power is continuously supplied by MUPPS during the phase-separation passing are analyzed. Then, the characteristics of a MUPPS to provide reactive power and stabilize the terminal voltage of the traction arm are analyzed. Then, the power transmission characteristics of a MUPPS under emergency working conditions are analyzed. The control strategy for the two conditions is proposed. Finally, simulation analysis and small capacity experiments are conducted. The theoretical analysis and test confirm the correctness and effectiveness of the MUPPS.

Fine roots(nisms remain poorly understood at a regional scale.This study examined these intraspecific variations in fine roots in Masson pine(Pinus massoniana Lamb.)plantations across subtropical China and their responses to environmental factors.Root nitrogen(N)and phosphorus(P)concentrations and their mass ratios(N:P)ranged from 3.5 to 11.7 g kg^(-1),0.2 to0.9 g kg^(-1),and 7.8 to 51.6 g kg^(-1),respectively.These three chemical traits were significantly different between sites and in longitudinal patterns across subtropical China.Mean annual temperature was positively related to root N concentration but negatively related to root P concentration.There were significant,negative relationships between clay content and root P concentration and between pH and root N concentration.Available N had no significant relationship with root N concentration,while available P was a significantly positive relationship with root P concentration.The combined effects of altitude,climate(temperature and precipitation)and soil properties(pH,clay content,available N and P)explained 26%and 36%of the root N and P concentrations variations,respectively.These environmental variables had direct and indirect effects and exhibited disproportionate levels of total effects on root N and P concentrations.Root N and P concentrations explained 35%and 65%variations in their mass ratios,respectively.The results highlight different spatial patterns of chemical traits and various environmental controls on root N and P concentrations in these ecosystems.More cause-effect relationships of root chemical traits with abiotic and biotic factors are needed to understand nutrient uptake strategies and the mechanisms controlling intraspecific variations in plant traits.
