Gracilaria changii(Rhodophyta) alleviates bisphenol A-induced adverse reproductive abnormalities in mice

Objective:To evaluate the potential of Gracilaria changii extract in ameliorating the potential adverse effects of bisphenol ***:The antioxidant capacity of Gracilaria changii extracted using different solvents(methanol,ethanol,and aqueous)was *** mice were administered by oral gavage with bisphenol A(60 mg/kg body weight)for 6 weeks with or without Gracilaria changii aqueous ***,the mice were either euthanized for histology and immunohistochemistry studies or mated to evaluate the pregnancy ***:Gracilaria changii aqueous extract showed the highest antioxidant properties compared with extract using methanol and *** aqueous extract of Gracilaria changii improved the uterus index and uterine lipid peroxidation after bisphenol A exposure,although the uterine expressions of estrogen receptors and complement C3 were not *** evaluation of the uterus during the estrus stage has revealed that the extract could mitigate bisphenol A-induced adverse effects in the uterus as there was a lower percentage of mice showing abnormalities like decreased eosin staining in the myometrium,and decrease in the number of eosinophil and endometrial glands in the ***,Gracilaria changii aqueous extract improved the pregnancy rate of mice administered with bisphenol ***:Gracilaria changii extract protects against bisphenol A-induced female reproductive abnormalities in mice which may be mediated via modulation of eosinophil migration,endometrial gland formation,and protein expressions associated with prostaglandins in the myometrium.

Update on the Fungal Biofilm Drug Resistance and Its Alternative Treatment

Candida albicans (C. albicans) and Aspergillus fumigatus (A. fumigatus) are the two main pathogens in the clinical setting to cause serious, sometimes, lethal fungal infections. Immunocompromised patients fall victims to these fungi, with a mortality rate rising drastically over the past decades. This is in correlation with the fact that conventional antifungals are no longer capable of completely eradicating the disease, or if so, high doses are usually required to do so, leading to eventual resistance to those drugs and severe side effects. High drug resistance is in association with the discovery that these opportunistic pathogens have the ability to develop a multicellular complex, known as biofilm. Biofilms prevent drugs from reaching the fungal cells by sequestering them in their extracellular matrix. Other factors such as extracellular DNA, persister cells or heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90) also play a role in biofilm and contribute to drug recalcitrance. With the discovery of new antifungals lagging behind, scientists focused on other more profitable ways to counteract this phenomenon. Combination of two or more antifungals was found effective but came with serious drawbacks. Natural plant extracts, such as traditional Chinese medicine have also been demonstrated in vitro to possess antimicrobial actions. Great interest was directed towards their use with conventional antifungal agents with a possibility of lowering the necessary concentration required to inhibit the growth of fungi. This review aims in understanding the different factors contributing to clinical drug resistance and evaluating the effect of combination therapy and natural products on those cases difficult to treat.

This paper presents a 591×438-DPI ultrasonic fingerprint *** sensor is based on a piezoelectric micromachined ultrasonic transducer(PMUT)array that is bonded at wafer-level to complementary metal oxide semiconductor(CMOS)signal processing electronics to produce a pulse-echo ultrasonic imager on a *** meet the 500-DPI standard for consumer fingerprint sensors,the PMUT pitch was reduced by approximately a factor of two relative to an earlier *** conducted a systematic design study of the individual PMUT and array to achieve this scaling while maintaining a high *** resulting 110×56-PMUT array,composed of 30×43-μm^(2) rectangular PMUTs,achieved a 51.7% fill-factor,three times greater than that of the previous *** with the custom CMOS ASIC,the sensor achieves 2 mV kPa^(−1) sensitivity,15 kPa pressure output,75μm lateral resolution,and 150μm axial resolution in a 4.6 mm×3.2 mm *** the best of our knowledge,we have demonstrated the first MEMS ultrasonic fingerprint sensor capable of imaging epidermis and sub-surface layer fingerprints.

目的采用MRI测量并制订中国成年人左心室和左心房的功能与结构正常参考值范围。资料与方法纳入100名20～69岁志愿者,均无心血管疾病症状及吸烟史,按年龄和性别进行分组,以10岁为一个年龄段,每个年龄段男、女各10名,均行心电图、血压、... 详细信息

目的采用MRI测量并制订中国成年人左心室和左心房的功能与结构正常参考值范围。资料与方法纳入100名20～69岁志愿者,均无心血管疾病症状及吸烟史,按年龄和性别进行分组,以10岁为一个年龄段,每个年龄段男、女各10名,均行心电图、血压、血液学检查和超声心电图检查,以确保其心血管系统完全正常。以1.5T MR扫描获取其水平长轴、垂直长轴和左心室短轴多层电影图像序列。由3名操作者独立测量左心室及左心房结构及功能参数,经严格的内部验证后,计算出原始的和指数化的参数参考值范围,并分析性别和年龄与各参数之间的关系。结果左心室收缩功能主要参数参考值为:舒张末期容积78.5～192.5 ml,收缩末期容积28.5～79.5 ml,每搏输出量45.3～119.7 ml,射血分数51.2%～69.6%,舒张末期心肌质量27.6～96.6 g,舒张末期容积指数57.3～104.3 ml/m^2。左心房结构:四腔心面积13.8～28.6 cm^2,四腔心面积指数8.2～17.2 cm^2/m^2。除左心室射血分数、左心房面积(四腔心)、左心房面积指数(二腔心)和左心房容积指数外,不同性别受检者各左心参数差异有统计学意义(P<0.01)。男性左心室舒张末期容积、舒张末期容积指数与年龄呈弱负相关(r=-0.37～-0.30,P<0.05)。女性左心房面积指数(二腔心)和左心房容积指数与年龄呈弱正相关(r=0.28、0.30,P<0.05)。结论本研究建立了以性别和年龄分层的中国成年人左心室、左心房功能与结构参考值范围,对中国人群的心血管MRI临床应用和研究有重要参考意义。

High glucose reduces Nrf2-dependent cRAGE release and enhances inflammasome-dependent IL-1βproduction in monocytes:the modulatory effects of EGCG

Soluble receptor for advanced glycation end products(sRAGE)acts as a decoy sequestering of RAGE ligands,thus preventing the activation of the ligand-RAGE axis linking human ***,the molecular mechanisms underlying sRAGE remain *** this study,THP-1 monocytes were cultured in normal glucose(ng,5.5 mmol/L)and high glucose(HG,15 mmol/L)to investigate the effects of diabetesrelevant glucose concentrations on sRAGE and interleukin-1β(IL-1β)*** modulatory effects of epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG)in response to HG challenge were also *** enhanced intracellular reactive oxygen species(ROS)generation and RAGE *** secretion of sRAGE,including esRAGE and cRAGE,was reduced under HG conditions,together with the downregulation of a disintegrin and metallopeptidase 10(ADAM10)and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2)nuclear ***,the HG effects were counteracted by siRAGE and exacerbated by *** immunoprecipitation results showed that Nrf2 binding to the ADAM10 promoter and HG interfered with this *** data reinforce the notion that RAGE and Nrf2 might be sRAGE-regulating *** HG conditions,the treatment of EGCG reduced ROS generation and RAGE ***-stimulated cRAGE release was likely caused by the upregulation of the Nrf2-ADAM10 *** inhibited HG-mediated NLRP3 inflammasome activation at least partly by stimulating sRAGE,thereby reducing IL-1βrelease.

Population-based X-ray gastric cancer screening in Hiroshima prefecture, Japan

Improvement of lenvatinib-induced nephrotic syndrome after adaptation to sorafenib in thyroid cancer:A case report

BACKGROUND Target therapy is licensed by United States Food and Drug Administration on certain *** sorafenib and lenvatinib are tyrosine kinase inhibitor and indicated on radioactive iodine(RAI)-refractory differentiated thyroid cancer(DTC).Lenvatinib is more effective in cancers'control than sorafenib,but causes more nephrotoxicity than sorafenib *** case is the second published case about the serial adaptions from lenvatinib to sorafenib for improving the proteinuria and,meanwhile,achieving the therapeutic *** SUMMARY A 56-year-old man suffered from bilateral edematous lower extremities after 1-mo prescription of lenvatinib of 20 mg/d for RAI-refractory *** from this symptom,he also developed *** laboratory showed grade-3 proteinuria(estimated 24-h urine protein:9993 mg),hypoalbuminemia and ***-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)therapyinduced nephrotic syndrome was *** reduced dosage of lenvatinib of 10 mg/d and related symptomatic drugs,limited improvement was observed in both adverse effects and caner *** this condition,we substituted sorafenib of 400 mg/d for lenvatinib of 10 mg/*** a 5-mo prescription,not only hypertension and peripheral edema were greatly improved,but also proteinuria was improved from grade three to grade one(estimated 24-h urine protein:962 mg).At the same time the cancer control was achieved,judged from computed tomography and laboratory evidence[thyroglobulin(Tg)before prescription of sorafenib:354.7 ng/m L;Tg after prescription of sorafenib:108.9 ng/m L].CONCLUSION Adaption from lenvatinib to sorafenib is a feasible method to improve the antiVEGF therapy-induced nephrotic syndrome and achieve the therapeutic goal at the same time.
