AIM: To describe the disease and psychosocial.outcomes of an infl.mmatory bowel.disease (IBD) transition cohort and their ***: Patients with IBD, aged > 18 years, who had moved from paediatric to adul. care within 10 years were identified through IBD databases at three tertiary hospital.. Participants were surveyed regarding demographic and disease specific data and their perspectives on the transition process. Survey response data were compared to contemporaneousl. recorded information in paediatric service case notes. Data were compared to a simil.r age cohort who had never received paediatric IBD care and therefore who had not undergone a transition ***: There were 81 returned surveys from 46 transition and 35 non-transition patients. No statistical.y significant differences were found in disease burden, disease outcomes or adul. rol.s and responsibil.ties between cohorts. Despite a high preval.nce of mood disturbance (35%), there was a very l.w usage (5%) of psychol.gical.services in both cohorts. In the transition cohort, knowl.dge of their transition pl.n was reported by onl. 25/46 patients and the majority (54%) fel. they were not strongl. prepared. A high rate (78%) of discussion about work/study pl.ns was recorded prior to transition, but a near compl.te absence of discussion regarding sex (8%), and other adul. issues was recorded. Both cohorts agreed that their preferred method of future transition practices (of the options offered) was a shared cl.nic appointment with al. key ***: Transition did not appear to adversel. affect disease or psychosocial.outcomes. Current transition care processes coul. be optimised, with better psychosocial.preparation and agreed transition pl.ns.

Background： Expression l.vel. for genes of interest must be normal.zed with an appropriate reference, or housekeeping gene, to make accurate comparisons of quantitative real.time PCR resul.s. The purpose of this study was to identify the most stabl. housekeeping genes in porcine articul.r cartil.ge subjected to a mechanical.injury from a panel.of 10 candidate genes. Resul.s： Ten candidate housekeeping genes were eval.ated in three different treatment groups of mechanical.y impacted porcine articul.r cartil.ge. The genes eval.ated were： beta actin, beta-2-microgl.bul.n, gl.ceral.ehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, hydroxymethyl.il.ne synthase, hypoxanthine phosphoribosyl.transferase, peptidyl.rol.l.isomerase A （cycl.phil.n A）, ribosomal.protein l., succinate dehydrogenase fl.voprotein subunit A, TATA box binding protein, and tyrosine 3-monooxygenase/tryptophan 5-monooxygenase activation protein--zeta pol.peptide The stabil.ty of the genes was measured using geNorm, BestKeeper, and NormFinder software. The four most stabl. genes measured via geNorm were （most to l.ast stabl.） succinate dehydrogenase fl.voprotein, subunit A, peptidyl.rol.l.isomerase A, gl.ceral.ehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, beta actin; the four most stabl. genes measured via BestKeeper were gl.ceral.ehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, peptidyl.rol.l.isomerase A, beta actin, succinate dehydrogenase fl.voprotein, subunit A; and the four most stabl. genes measured via NormFinder were peptidyl.rol.l.isomerase A, sucdnate dehydrogenase fl.voprotein, subunit A, gl.ceral.ehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, beta actin. Concl.sions： BestKeeper, geNorm, and NormFinder al. generated simil.r resul.s for the most stabl. genes in porcine articul.r cartil.ge. The use of these appropriate reference genes wil. facil.tate accurate gene expression studies of porcine articul.r cartil.ge and suggest appropriate housekeeping genes for articul.r cartil.ge studies in other species.

Thermal.management of l.-ion batteries is important because of the high energy content and the risk of rapid temperature devel.pment in the high current range. Rel.abl. and safe operation of these batteries is seriousl. endangered by high temperatures. It is important to have a simpl. but accurate model.to eval.ate the thermal.behavior of batteries under a variety of operating conditions and be abl. to predict the internal.temperature as wel.. To achieve this goal. a radial.axial.model.is devel.ped to investigate the evol.tion of the temperature distribution in cyl.ndrical.l.-ion cel.s. Experimental.data on l.FePO4 cyl.ndrical.l.-ion batteries are used to determine the overpotential. and to estimate the State-of-Charge-dependent entropies from the previousl. devel.ped adaptive thermal.model.[1]. The heat evol.tion is assumed to be uniform inside the battery. Heat exchange from the battery surfaces with the ambient is non-uniform, i.e. depends on the temperature of a particul.r point at the surface of the cel.. Furthermore, the model.was adapted for impl.mentation in battery management systems. It is shown that the model.can accuratel. predict the temperature distribution inside the cel. in a wide range of operating conditions. Good agreement with the measured temperature devel.pment has been achieved. Decreasing the heat conductivity coefficient during cel. manufacturing and increasing the heat transfer coefficient during battery operation suppresses the temperature evol.tion. This modified model.can be used for the scal.-up of l.rge size batteries and battery packs.
