The Pioneering Works of Professor Duzheng YE on Atmospheric Dispersion,Tibetan Plateau Meteorology,and Air–Sea Interaction

This paper provides an overview of the impacts of the original works of Professor Duzheng YE on a selected set of observational and model studies with which the present author has been associated over the past several decades. The main themes of these works include atmospheric energy dispersion, air–land interactions over the Tibetan Plateau, and El Ni n？orelated air–sea coupling over East *** dispersive behavior of observed atmospheric fluctuations accompanying cold surge events in East Asia is demonstrated. Cold air outbreaks over Korea and southern China are coincident with the successive downstream development of troughs and ridges, with the group velocity of such wave packets being notably faster than the phase propagation speed of individual troughs and ridges. In a more general context, dispersive features are also discernible from lagged teleconnection charts and cross-spectra of observed and model-simulated geopotential height variations on 10–30-day time *** the output from a high-resolution general circulation model, the relative contributions of condensational, sensible, and radiative heating to the atmospheric energy budget over the Tibetan Plateau are documented. The rapid changes of the upper tropospheric Tibetan anticyclone and East Asian mei-yu（＂plum rain＂） precipitation band associated with the development of the Asian monsoon system are *** principal anomalies in sea level pressure, surface wind, precipitation and sea surface temperature over southeastern China and the Philippine Sea region during El Nio events are presented. The contributions of remote El Nio-related forcing and local air–sea interaction to the occurrence of these anomalies are assessed.

Mindfulness Facets and Psychological Well-Being among Meditators:Serenity as a Mediating Process

Guided by the theoretical processes of mindfulness and psychological well-being,this study examined serenity as a mediator between mindfulness facets and psychological well-being,as indexed by depressive symptoms and life *** were 133 mindfulness practitioners who took part in a 3-day transnational meditation event in Hong *** informed consent,participants completed a self-report *** findings from structural equation modeling showed that serenity mediated the relation between two facets of mindfulness,including describing and nonreacting to inner experience,and life *** also mediated the relation between the mindfulness facet of describing and depressive *** associations were indicated between two mindfulness facets,including observing and nonjudging of inner experience,and depressive *** together,the findings revealed mindfulness facets as major correlates of serenity and psychological outcomes among Chinese meditation *** foster psychological well-being,researchers,educators,and practitioners should pay attention to the role of serenity,describing,and nonreacting to inner experience in mental health.

A biosynthetic gene cluster for the bioactive fungal sesterterpenoids variecolin(1)and variecolactone(2)was identified in Aspergillus aculeatus ATCC *** production of 1 and 2 was achieved in Aspergillus oryzae by expressing the sesterterpene synthase VrcA and the cytochrome P450 ***,the replacement of VrcB with homologous P450s from other fungal terpenoid pathways yielded three new variecolin analogues(5-7).Analysis of the compounds’anticancer activity in vitro and in vivo revealed that although 5 and 1 had comparable activities,5 was associated with significantly reduced toxic side effects in cancer-bearing mice,indicating its potentially broader therapeutic *** study describes the first tests of variecolin and its analogues in animals and demonstrates the utility of synthetic biology for creating molecules with improved biological activities.

Evolving treatment landscape for early and advanced pancreatic cancer

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is an infrequent cancer with a high disease related mortality rate, even in the context of early stage disease. Until recently, the rate of death from pancreatic cancer has remained largely similar whereby gemcitabine monotherapy was the mainstay of systemic treatment for most stages of disease. With the discovery of active multiagent chemotherapy regimens, namely FOLFIRINOX and gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel, the treatment landscape of pancreatic cancer is slowly evolving. FOLFIRINOX and gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel are now considered standard first line treatment options in metastatic pancreatic cancer. Studies are ongoing to investigate the utility of these same regimens in the adjuvant setting. The potential of these treatments to downstage disease is also being actively examined in the locally advanced context since neoadjuvant approaches may improve resection rates and surgical outcomes. As more emerging data become available, the management of pancreatic cancer is anticipated to change significantly in the coming years.

Dear Editor,Triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC)is an aggressive breast cancer subtype enriched in cancer stem cells(CSCs),which is characterized by high malignancy and drug resistance.1 The PI3K/Akt signaling cascade is frequently hyperactivated in *** and non-redundant functions of the three Akt isoforms in tumorigenesis,however,have not been studied *** is noteworthy that despite a few isoform-specific substrates have been identified for Akt1 and Akt2,an Akt3-specific substrate is yet to be *** have previously shown that overexpression of Akt3,but not Akt1 or Akt2,plays an essential role in TNBC growth and therapeutic resistance of breast cancer.2 However,the role of Akt3 in TNBC CSCs remains unclear.

Monolithically integrated high-resolution full-color GaN-on-Si micro-LED microdisplay

Full-color micro-LED displays are being widely developed and regarded as a primary option in current microdisplay technologies to fulfill the urgent demands of metaverse applications in the next *** this paper,a monolithic full-color micro-LED microdisplay with a resolution of 423 pixels per inch is demonstrated through the integration of a blue GaN-on-Si display module and a quantum dots photoresist(QDs-PR)color conversion *** 400×240 active-matrix blue micro-LED display with a dominant wavelength of 440 nm was monolithically fabricated using GaN-on-Si epiwafers and flip-chip bonded on a custom-designed complementary metal-oxide semiconductor backplane.A color conversion module was independently fabricated on a *** substrate by applying red and green QDs-PR arrays and a color filter array through the standard lithography *** the blue GaN-on-Si micro-LED display module and the lithography-based QDs-PR color conversion module,a full-color micro-LED display was achieved with a wide color gamut up to 104%of the standard red,green,and blue and a maximum brightness of over 500 *** influence of blue light leakage resulting from the possible misalignment of flip-chip bonding and crosstalk in the bottom GaN-on-Si display was investigated in which the percentages of efficient pumping light for the blue,green,and red subpixels are around95%,89%,and 92%,*** prototype demonstrates potential scalability and low-cost volume production of high-resolution full-color micro-LED microdisplays soon.

Docetaxel-induced nail toxicity： a case of severe onycholysis and topic review

Docetaxel is a commonly-used anti-cancer chemotherapeutic agent given its efficacy in a large variety of solid tumors. It is associated with various adverse effects one of which is nail toxicity. We report a case of severe onycholysis as a result of treatment with docetaxel in a patient who suffered from metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The case report will be followed by a discussion on the possible mechanism and preventive strategies for taxane-induced nail toxicity.

This study reports the development and validation of an instrument,“Undergraduate STEM Educational Process Questionnaire”(USEPQ)to assess the learning experiences of STEM(science,technology,engineering and mathematics)-major undergraduates from the perspective of a conceptualized comprehensive STEM educational process framework that consists of key essentials such as course learning and instruction,educational environment,assessment methods,and unique STEM *** Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis performed on independent samples indicate that the finalized 9-factor,41-item USEPQ possesses a stable factor structure and sound psychometric *** factors of the validated scale are Classroom Instruction of Courses,Support from Faculty Members,Alternative Assessment Methods,Cooperative Learning,Resources and Service,Academic Competition,Cross-discipline Features of Program Courses,Connectedness of Program Courses,and Examination Difficulty.

To the Editor： To date, epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders globally, affecting more than 50 million people worldwide. It is debilitating and represents a large health-care and economic burden, especially when treatment may often be expensive and not necessarily effective. It has been suggested that the burden of lifetime epilepsy has been significantly increasing in China in recent decades, The International League Against Epilepsy has defined epilepsy in 2014 as a neurological disorder with at least two unprovoked seizures occurring more than 24 h apart.
