Chrom.um.oxide nanoparticles were synthesized by the reduction of potassium.dichrom.te solution with m.kia maderaspatana plant extract. In electrochem.cal m.thods, Cr2O3 nanoparticles were synthesized by two ways, using platinum.(Pt) electrodes and K2Cr2O7 solution with H2SO4 as m.dium.in the first case. And chrom.um.doped platinum.electrode (Pt/Cr) in presence of NaHCO3 solution in second case. The resulting Cr2O3 nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron m.croscopy (SEm., UV-VIS absorption and Fourier-transform.infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The enhancing influence of Cr2O3 nanoparticles as a catalyst for the decom.osition of Km.O4 has been studied. The antibacterial effect of Cr2O3 nanoparticles against E. coli was investigated. These particles were shown to have an effective bactericide.

Niobium.doped Zincoxide nanoparticles has been synthesized through electrochem.cal m.thod and characterized by UV-Visible spectroscopy, IR Spectroscopy, SEm. XRD, ICPm. and EDAX data. The UV-Visible spectroscopy result reveals that the band gap energy of ZnO/Nb2O5 nanoparticles to be 3.8 eV. The XRD results show that the crystallite size is to be 31.9 nm. The ICPm. data indicate the presence of 3,3461,328 counts of 93 Nb and 577,906,390 counts of 66 Zn. An im.rovem.nt in the photocatalytic degradation of Indigocarm.ne dye (IC) in com.arison to com.ercially available pure ZnO was observed. The photodegradation efficiency for ZnO/Nb2O5 and ZnO were found to be 97.4% and 52.1% respectively. The enhancem.nt in photocatalytic activity of ZnO/ Nb2O5 was ascribed to the extended light absorption range and suppression of electron hole pair recom.ination upon Nb loading. The antibacterial activity of ZnO/Nb2O5 nanoparticles was investigated. These particles were shown to have an effective bactericide.

Oxidations of piperazine, 1-m.thylpiperazine and 1-ethylpiperazine by brom.m.ne-T (BAT) in buffered acidic m.dium.have been kinetically studied at 303 K. The reaction shows a first-order dependence of the rate each on [BAT]0 and [piperazine]0, and an inverse fractional-order dependence on [H+]. The additions of halide ions and the reduction product of BAT, p-toluenesulfonam.de, have no effect on the reaction rate. The variation of ionic strength of the solvent m.dium.has no influence on the rate. Activation param.ters have been evaluated from.the Arrhenius and Eyring plots. A com.on m.chanism.consistent with the kinetic data has been proposed for all piperazines. The protonation constants of substrates have been evaluated. The Ham.ett linear free-energy relationship has been observed for the reaction with ρ = ?0.5 indicating that the electron-donating groups enhance the reaction rate by stabilizing the transition state. An isokinetic relationship observed shows β = 368 K indicating the dom.nance of enthalpy factors on the reaction rate.

Hydroxyl radicals, superoxide anions and nitricoxide radicals are reactive species that can attack biom.lecules such as DNA, lipids and proteins to cause m.ny lifestyle-related diseases including hypertension and photoaging. This study reports the synthesis of new copper-pyridoxine and iron-pyridoxine com.lexes. The com.lexes have been synthesized and characterized by m.lar conductances, IR, UV-Visible, m.ss spectrom.try, m.lting points and m.gnetic m.m.nt datas. The m.lecular form.la of the com.lex is found to be Fe（py ^-）2Cl.H2O. The pyH/pyligand is coordinated to copper and iron through N atom.of the pyridine ring and O atom.of 5＇-CH2OH group. The Fe（III） com.lex is found to be param.gnetic with one unpaired electron. The antioxidant activities of the free ligand and its com.lexes were determ.ned in vitro.

Experim.ntal investigations were carried out on a two-dim.nsional cascade fitted with a 120° deflection rotor blades to study the effect of incidence angle on the endwall flow in the presence of tip clearance. A total of five incidence angles, nam.ly: -10°，-10° -5°, 0°, 5° ， 10° were chosen and for each incidence angle, the experim.nts were conducted for five tip clearance values at a constant space -chord ratio of 0.79. The results are presented in the form.of contours of static pressure coefficient on the endwall and the blade tip surface. In addition, the variation of static pressure coefficient ahead of the blade leading edge and from.the pressure surface to the suction surface at various axial stations, and discharge coefficient gi different axial stations are presented. The results indicate that the adverse pressure gradient upstream.of the leading edge is reduced as tip clearance is increased. The contours of static pressure coefficient on the endwall indicate a deep low-pressure trough near the suction surface in com.arison to the norm.l trough for zero clearance. Loading also increases as incidence changes from.the negative to positive values. Due to area contraction caused by the tip separation vortex, the fluid m.ving towards the tip gap from.the pressure side is accelerated. Downstream.of the tip separation vortex, the endwall pressure increases due to flow m.xing. The m.xim.m.value of discharge coefficient increases and the point at which m.xim.m.value occurs shifts towards leading edge when incidence is changed from.-10° to 10°.

In vivo haploid induction based on m.ternal haploid inducers is the first step in deriving com.letely hom.zygous m.ize doubled haploid(DH) lines. Haploid induction rate(HIR) is influenced by both pollen parent inducing haploidy and the m.ternal source germ.lasm.used in induction crosses. This study was aim.d at analyzing the influence of source germ.lasm.on HIR using 671 tropical inbred lines organized in two association m.pping panels. These two association m.pping panels(Am.1 and Am.2) were crossed to two different Tropically Adapted Inducer Lines(TAILs). For HIR assessm.nt, seeds from.induction crosses were planted in the field and ploidy status of each surviving plant was assessed using a gold standard classification based on visual differences between the haploid and diploid plants. The analysis revealed significant variation for HIR and led to identification of several tropical inbred lines that respond very positively to haploid induction. Use of HIR data in a genom. wide association study(GWAS) led to identification of twenty-seven and two SNPs that were significantly associated with HIR in Am.1 and Am.2,respectively. m.ta-analysis of Am.1 and Am.2 GWAS led to identification of 52 SNPs with significant effect on HIR across both studies. Genom.-wide prediction revealed m.derate to high prediction accuracy within Am.s using random.SNPs. Inclusion of the SNPs detected in GWAS into the prediction m.del led to im.rovem.nt in prediction accuracy. Overall, the study revealed that the m.ternal influence on HIR is controlled by a few m.derate and m.ny sm.ll effect QTL.

In this study, linoleic acid (LA) was encapsulated in the presence or absence of quercetin into a dual polym.r system.of whey protein and kappa-carrageenan using power ultrasound. Atom.c Force m.croscopy (AFm. and FlowCam.im.ging technology were used for im.ging and size determ.nation of nano-and m.cro-capsules. Differential scanning calorim.ter (DSC) was used to determ.ne the glass transition tem.erature (Tg) of the freeze-dried nanocapsules. In order to exam.ne the effect of water activity (aw) on the release profile of the encapsulated LA, the nanocapsules were equilibrated over saturated salt solution conditions corresponding to the range of aw between 0.333 and 0.769 in evacuated desiccators at room.tem.erature. Gravim.tric m.asurem.nts of the steady state linoleic acid (LA) contents were conducted. The anti-oxidant activity of quercetin and the stability of encapsulated LA toward long term.and therm.lly induced rancidity was investigated. The capsules were in the nanosize regim. and 83% of the LA was effectively encapsulated. Furtherm.re, at aw of 0.764, the highest percentage of LA (74%) was released from.the expelling nanocapsules. Quercetin was found to exhibit protective antioxidant effect against tim.-dependent oxidation and therm.lly induced rancidity of LA. Water activity values of 0.662 and 0.764 provided ideal hum.dity and pressure conditions for sustained release of nanoencapsulated LA at room.tem.erature.

The treatm.nt of biologically treated wastewater of coffee-curing industry by the electrochem.cal oxidation using steel anode was investigated. Bench-scale experim.nts were conducted for activated sludge process on raw wastewater and the treated effluents were further treated by electrochem.cal oxidation m.thod for its colour and organic content rem.val. The efficiency of the process was determ.ned in term. of rem.val percentage of COD, BOD and colour during the course of reaction. Several operating param.ters like tim., pH and current density were exam.ned to ascertain their effects on the treatm.nt efficiency. Steel anode was found to be effective for the COD and colour rem.val with anode efficiency of 0.118 kgCOD\5h -1\5A -1\5m. -2 and energy consum.tion 20.61 kWh\5kg -1 of COD at pH 9. The decrease in pH from.9 to 3 found to increase the anode efficiency from.0.118 kgCOD\5h -1\5A -1\5m. -2 to 0.144 kWh\5kg -1 of COD while decrease the energy consum.tion from.20.61 kWh\5kg -1 of COD to 12.86 kWh\5kg -1 of COD. The pH of 5 was considered an ideal from.the present treatm.nt process as it avoids the addition of chem.cals for neutralization of treated effluents and also econom.cal with respect to energy consum.tion. An em.irical relation developed for relationship between applied current density and COD rem.val efficiency showed strong predictive capability with coefficient of determ.nation of 96.5%.
