WLAN-log-based superspreader detection in the COVID-19 pandemic

Identifying“superspreaders”of disease is a pressing concern for society during pandemics such as *** represent a group of people who have much more social contacts than *** widespread deployment of WLAN infrastructure enables non-invasive contact tracing via people’s ubiquitous mobile *** technology offers promise for detecting *** this paper,we propose a general framework for WLAN-log-based superspreader *** our framework,we first use WLAN logs to construct contact graphs by jointly considering human symmetric and asymmetric ***,we adopt three vertex centrality mea-surements over the contact graphs to generate three groups of superspreader ***,we leverage SEIR simulation to determine groups of superspreaders among these candidates,who are the most critical individuals for the spread of disease based on the simulation *** have implemented our framework and evaluate it over a WLAN dataset with 41 million log entries from a large-scale *** evaluation shows superspread-ers exist on university *** change over the first few weeks of a semester,but stabilize throughout the rest of the *** data also demonstrate that both symmetric and asymmetric contact tracing can dis-cover superspreaders,but the latter performs better with daily contact ***,the evaluation shows no consistent differences among three vertex centrality measures for long-term(i.e.,weekly)contact graphs,which necessitates the inclusion of SEIR simulation in our *** believe our proposed framework and these results can provide timely guidance for public health administrators regarding effective testing,intervention,and vaccination policies.

background and Objectives:Cholangiocarcinoma is a highly aggressive and heterogenous group of biliary malignancies arising from any site in the biliary tree,comprising 15%of all primary liver *** nature of the disease and nonspecific presentation leads to late diagnosis and ultimately poor outcomes for *** gemcitabine and cisplatin has been the standard of care for cholangiocarcinoma(CCA)since 2010,with a median overall survival of 11.7 *** five-year survival for CCA remains 5-10%,revealing a clear need for improved treatment ***:This targeted review highlights the role of next generation sequencing in CCA and the clinically relevant tumor biomarkers that have become the focus of therapeutic *** Content and Findings:These tumor biomarkers or actionable mutations hold the potential to enable earlier diagnosis,provide prognostic information,and guide treatment decisions for patients with ***,the FGFR2 fusion and IDH1 mutation have shown considerable promise in development of targeted *** trials with inhibitors targeting FGFR2 fusion and IDH1 mutation have created expectations that these drugs will soon enter clinical *** biomarkers including KRAS and b-raf protooncogenes,Her2/neu genes,and bRCA1 and 2 tumor-suppressor genes have also been touted as potential targets for future therapies,with early data showing promise for new drug ***:The discovery of these actionable mutations and identification of targeted therapies have challenged the notion of a“one-size fits all”for treatment of CCA,and generated optimism that these novel treatments will soon be available for patients with CCA.

Inhibitory roles of protein kinase b and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator on hepatic HMG-CoA reductase promoter activity

Since we had previously demonstrated that siRNAs to tristetraprolin (TTP) markedly inhibited insulin stimulation of hepatic HMG-CoA reductase (HMGR) transcription, we investigated the effects of transfecting rat liver with TTP constructs. We found that transfecting diabetic rats with TTP did not increase HMGR transcription but rather led to modest inhibition. We then investigated whether co-transfection with protein kinase b, hepatic form (AKT2), might lead to phosphorylation and result in activation of HMGR transcription. We found that this treatment resulted in near complete inhibition of transcription. Transfection with peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor g coactivator (PGC-1a) also inhibited HMGR transcription. These results show that although TTP is needed for activation of HMGR transcription, it cannot by itself activate this process. AKT2 and PGC-1a, which mediate the activation of gluconeogenic genes by insulin, exert the opposite effect on HMGR.

Non-native plant species richness and influence of greenhouses and human populations in the conterminous United States

background One issue in invasive plant ecology is identification of the factors related to the invasion process that increase number of non-native *** invasion by non-native species increases,so does the probability that some non-native species will become harmful,or classified as invasive species,which disrupt natural ecosystems with attendant economic and social costs.I quantified patterns of how non-native species richness varied with vegetation types and human *** evaluate the relative importance of different predictor variables for invasion pathways in the conterminous United States,I modeled non-native plant species richness by county compared to current and historical human populations;greenhouses and nurseries;railroads,pipelines,transmission lines,and oil and gas wells;and land covers of impervious surface,development intensity categories,agriculture,and vegetation types.I also modeled these variables within vegetation types,excluding vegetation *** To summarize patterns,non-native plant species richness increased from 72 to 200 with increasing human population density *** and forest land use mosaics had the greatest mean number of non-native plant species,ranging from 121 to 166,whereas grasslands and grassland mosaics had the least number of non-native plant species,about *** modeling variable importance,all combined variables had R^(2)values of 56%(random forests regressor)and 54%(cubist regressor)for predictions of withheld observations of non-native plant species rich-ness,with greenhouse density and percent forestlands as most influential *** variables of greenhouses(R^(2)=29%),historical and current human populations(R^(2)=27%and 23%),impervious surface(25%),and medium intensity development(23%)were most associated with non-native plant species *** vegetation types,greenhouse and historical human population densities were influential variables particularly in forestlands,shrubland

background Pediatric cancer survivors are at increased risk of muscle weakness and low areal bone mineral density(abMD).However,the prevalence of muscle strength deficits is not well documented,and the associations of muscle strength with abMD are unknown in this ***,this study aimed to investigate the prevalence of upper-and lower-body muscle strength deficits and to examine the associations of upper-and lower-body muscle strength with age-,sex,and race-specific abMD Z-scores at the total body,total hip,femoral neck,and lumbar *** This cross-sectional study included 116 pediatric cancer survivors(12.1±3.3 years old,mean±SD;42.2%female).Upper-and lower-body muscle strength were assessed by handgrip and standing long jump test,***‑energy X‑ray absorptiometry was used to measure abMD(g/cm2).Associations between muscle strength and abMD were evaluated in multivariable linear regression *** regression was used to evaluate the contribution of muscle strength(1-decile lower)to the odds of having low abMD(Z-score≤1.0).All analyses were adjusted for time from treatment completion,radiotherapy exposure,and body mass *** More than one-half of survivors were within the 2 lowest deciles for upper-(56.9%)and lower-body muscle strength(60.0%)in comparison to age-and sex-specific reference *** strength deficits were associated with lower abMD Z-scores at all sites(b=0.133–0.258,p=0.001–0.032).Each 1-decile lower in upper-body muscle strength was associated with 30%–95%higher odds of having low abMD Z-scores at all *** 1-decile lower in lower-body muscle strength was associated with 35%–70%higher odds of having low abMD Z-scores at total body,total hip,and femoral *** Muscle strength deficits are prevalent in young pediatric cancer survivors,and such deficits are associated with lower abMD Z-scores at all *** results suggest that interventions designed to improve muscle strength in t

bACKGROUND:Optic neuritis(ON)in childhood is thought to be more likely bilateral and less likely to lead to multiple sclerosis(MS)vs ON in ***:The authors evaluated clinical features,maximal visual deficit and recovery,visual evoked potentials(VEPs),neuroimaging,and outcome in a cohort of children with ***:Records of 36 children(female/male ratio 1.6),ages 2.2 to 17.8(mean 12.2)years,were *** was unilateral in 58%and bilateral in 42%.Maximal visual deficit was severe in 69%,but full recovery occurred in 39 of 47 affected eyes(83%).VEPs were abnormal in 88%.Neurologic abnormalities in addition to those associated with ON were documented in 13 *** studies of the optic nerve were abnormal in 55%.brain MRI in 35 children demonstrated white matter lesions separate from the optic nerves in 54%.Follow-up is 2.4 years(0.3 to 8.3 years).To date,13 children(36%)have been diagnosed with MS and 1 has Devic *** ON was more likely to be associated with MS outcome(p = 0.03).All 13 children with MS had white matter lesions on brain *** of the children with a normal brain MRI have developed MS to ***:Contrary to expectations,optic neuritis(ON)in childhood was more likely to be unilateral,multiple sclerosis(MS)risk was high(36%at 2 years),and bilateral rather than unilateral ON was associated with a greater likelihood of *** findings extrinsic to the visual system on baseline examination(p < 0.0001)and MRI evidence of white matter lesions outside the optic nerves(p < 0.0001)were strongly correlated with MS outcome.

Objective: We investigated changes in serum uric acid across pregnancy in women with gestational hyperuricemia at delivery, with and without preeclampsia, compared with normal pregnant and women with preeclampsia without gestational hyperuricemia. Study design: This was a nested case-control study of 116 controls, 27 women with preeclampsia with predelivery hyperuricemia, 37 women with preeclampsia without predelivery hyperuricemia, and 35 women with gestational hypertension with hyperuricemia at delivery but without proteinuria. Serum uric acid and creatinine was measured across pregnancy. Results: Women with predelivery hyperuricemia,with andwithout preeclampsia, had increased uric acid concentrations across pregnancy compared with controls, after 25 weeks’gestation compared with women with preeclampsia without predelivery hyperuricemia. Adjusting for differences in glomerular filtration by serum creatinine accounted for part but not all of the increase in serum uric acid among women with preeclampsia and predelivery hyperuricemia. Conclusions: Among women with hyperuricemia at delivery, elevations in uric acid occur early. Multiple mechanisms may contribute to increased uric acid including changes in renal function.

Hong Kong has undergone substantial economic transformations and developed into a sophisticated busi- ness and financial center in the Asia-Pacific region, since the return of sovereignty to China as a Special Administrative Region under the One Country Two Systems （OCTS） in 1997. This paper discusses and analyzes the industrial struc- tural changes of Hong Kong in recent decades as well as its future challenges and opportunities, The data and finding reveal that even though Hong Kong will face fierce competition from the Mainland＇s cities as the rise of China, the important role as a bridge between China and the rest of the world wilt brace Hong Kong itself under the OCTS for developing into a service hub for business and trade in the Asia-Pacific region.

目的调查昆明、洛阳两地献血者人群HbV携带者HbV基因型的分布情况。方法采用多对型特异性引物,以套式PCR的方法对两地367份献血者HbsAg筛查阳性样本分型,根据HbV前s1基因和s基因区域内的保守序列设计出10条引物(2条外引物、8条内引物),并将其中8条内引物分为Ⅰ、Ⅱ组,分别扩增A、b、C和D、E、F型HbV基因片段;将第2轮PCR产物做琼脂糖电泳,根据PCR产物片断大小判定基因型;分型结果以s基因直接测序法验证。结果昆明279份样本中成功分型214例,分型成功率76.7%,其中b型69例(32.2%),C型103例(48.1%),b、C混合型41例(19.2%);D型1例(0.5%);洛阳献血者的88份样本中成功分型72例,分型成功率81.8%,其中b型10例(13.9%),C型46例(63.9%),b、C混合型16例(22.2%)。经s基因测序法验证,该分型方法准确可靠。结论昆明、洛阳两地献血者人群中HbV携带者HbV基因型均以C型为主,并有一定比例的b型和b、C混合型,仅在昆明献血者中发现1例D型,未见A、E、F型。
