Effective containment of the COVID-19 pandemic requires rapid and accurate detection of the *** chain reaction(PCR)remains the gold standard for COVID-19 *** this article,we report the performance of a cost-effective modular microfluidic reverse transcription(RT)-PCR and RT-loop mediated isothermal amplification(RTLAMP)platform,Epidax®,for the point-of-care testing and confirmation of *** platform is versatile and can be reconfigured either for screening using endpoint RT-PCR or RT-LAMP tests or for confirmatory tests using realtime ***®is highly sensitive and detects as little as 1 RNA copy perµL for real-time and endpoint RT-PCR,while using only half of the *** achieved comparable results with those of a commercial platform when detecting SARS-CoV-2 viruses from 81 clinical RNA ***®can also detect SARS-CoV-2 from 44 nasopharyngeal samples without RNA extraction by using a direct RT-PCR assay,which shortens the sample-to-answer time to an hour with minimal user ***,we validated the technology using an RT-LAMP assay on 54 clinical RNA ***,our platform provides a sensitive,cost-effective,and accurate diagnostic solution for lowresource settings.

The effects of temperature and resource availability on denitrification and relative N_(2)O production in boreal lake sediments

Anthropogenic environmental stressors（like atmospheric deposition,land use change,and climate warming） are predicted to increase inorganic nitrogen and organic carbon loading to northern boreal lakes,with potential consequences for denitrification in ***,our ability to predict effects of these changes is currently limited as northern boreal lakes have been largely neglected in denitrification *** aim of this study was therefore to assess how maximum potential denitrification and N_2O production rates,and the relationship between the two（relative N_2O production）,is controlled by availability of nitrate（NO_3^-）,carbon（C）,phosphorus（P）,and *** were performed using the acetylene inhibition technique on sediments from a small,nutrient poor boreal lake in northern Sweden in *** potential denitrification and N_2O production rates at 4°C were reached already at NO_3^-additions of 106–120 μg NO_3^-–N/L,and remained unchanged with higher NO_3 *** incubation temperatures increased maximum potential denitrification and N_2O production rates,and Q10 was somewhat higher for N_2O production（1.77） than for denitrification（1.69）.The relative N_2O production ranged between 13% and 64%,and was not related to NO_3^-concentration,but the ratio increased when incubations were amended with C and P（from a median of 16% to 27%）.Combined,our results suggests that unproductive northern boreal lakes currently have low potential for denitrification but are susceptible to small changes in NO_3 loading especially if these are accompanied by enhanced C and P availability,likely promoting higher N_2O production relative to N_2.

Latent tuberculosis infection in health-care workers in the government sector in Brunei Darussalam:A cross-sectional study

Objective:Health-care workers(HCWs)are known to be at high risk for occupational biological hazards,and this includes exposure to mycobacterium tuberculosis(TB)which can result in either active or latent TB infection(LTBI).This study aims to provide an overview of the incidence of LTBI among HCWs in Brunei Darussalam,to examine associated risk factors,and to evaluate LTBI treatment *** and Methods:This is a retrospective cross-sectional study which was conducted using data from January 2018 to December 2021,on notified cases of LTBI in HCWs which identified 115 *** data,underlying medical conditions,and compliance to treatment were assessed through reviews of their electronic health ***:The incidence of LBTI was 14.6/year/1000 *** incidence rate reached a high of 24.6/1000 in 2020,and majority of cases were in the older age *** was good treatment acceptance and compliance(82.6%),and this was observed to be significantly higher in females than males(P=0.02).Conclusion:This study showed an average incidence of LTBI of 14.6/1000 HCWs over 4 years and high LTBI treatment acceptance(82.6%)and *** on infection prevention and control measures in health-care settings and actions to increase awareness of LTBI are crucial interventions toward reducing the burden of LTBI.

Neural Network-Based Limiter with Transfer Learning

Recent works have shown that neural networks are promising parameter-free limiters for a variety of numerical schemes(Morgan et *** A machine learning approach for detect-ing shocks with high-order hydrodynamic *** *** J Comput Phys 367:166-191.,2018;Veiga et *** European Conference on Computational Mechanics andⅦEuropean Conference on Computational Fluid Dynamics,vol.1,***.,2018).Following this trend,we train a neural network to serve as a shock-indicator function using simulation data from a Runge-Kutta discontinuous Galer-kin(RKDG)method and a modal high-order limiter(Krivodonova in J Comput Phys 226:879-896.,2007).With this methodology,we obtain one-and two-dimensional black-box shock-indicators which are then coupled to a standard ***,we describe a strategy to transfer the shock-indicator to a residual distribution(RD)scheme without the need for a full training cycle and large data-set,by finding a mapping between the solution feature spaces from an RD scheme to an RKDG scheme,both in one-and two-dimensional problems,and on Cartesian and unstruc-tured *** report on the quality of the numerical solutions when using the neural network shock-indicator coupled to a limiter,comparing its performance to traditional lim-iters,for both RKDG and RD schemes.

Postpartum Hemorrhage: A Technical Essay

Background: Postpartum hemorrhage is one of the main causes of maternal mortality, mainly in underdeveloped countries. Deaths are mostly preventable, and are related to socioeconomic development, organization of health services and professional training. Objective: To systematize alerts for the prevention of postpartum hemorrhage. Method: This is a technical essay developed from reflections on previously produced and published texts about maternal mortality and has hemorrhage as the focus of this study. Results: It presents the concept, classification of hemorrhage, risk factors and their classification, prevention strategies, universal recommendations, pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions when hemorrhage already exists, bleeding assessment techniques;clinical evaluation, by laboratory examination and by shock index. Conclusions: Hemorrhage is a preventable cause of maternal death through the accomplishment of multiple care. Hospital care must be conducted by qualified professionals and in adequate numbers. The risk diagnosis must be carried out during prenatal care with the recording of clinical data accessible in the health care network. All references studied are not specific to nursing, as hemorrhage prevention requires multidisciplinary action.

Adaptation of forest management to climate change as perceived by forest owners and managers in Belgium

Background： Climate change is likely to cause significant modifications in forests. Rising to this challenge may require adaptation of forest management, and therefore should trigger proactive measures by forest managers, but it is unclear to what extent this is already happening. Methods： The survey carried out in this research assesses how forest stakeholders in Belgium perceive the role of their forest management in the context of climate change and the impediments that limit their ability to prepare and respond to these changes. Results： Respondents indicated strong awareness of the changing climate, with more than two-thirds （71%） expressing concern about the impacts of climate change on their forests. However, less than one-third of the respondents （32 %） reported modifying their management practices motivated by climate change. Among the major constraints limiting their climate red,ted ~ctions, lack of ic^formation was considered the most important for managers of both public and private forests. Conclusions： Knowledge transfer is an essential condition for research to lead to innovation. Improving the communication and demonstration of possible solutions for climate change adaptation is therefore likely to be the most effective strategy for increasing their adoption.

Enhancing Surface Soil Moisture Estimation through Integration of Artificial Neural Networks Machine Learning and Fusion of Meteorological, Sentinel-1A and Sentinel-2A Satellite Data

For many environmental and agricultural applications, an accurate estimation of surface soil moisture is essential. This study sought to determine whether combining Sentinel-1A, Sentinel-2A, and meteorological data with artificial neural networks (ann) could improve soil moisture estimation in various land cover types. To train and evaluate the model’s performance, we used field data (provided by La Tuscia University) on the study area collected during time periods between October 2022, and December 2022. Surface soil moisture was measured at 29 locations. The performance of the model was trained, validated, and tested using input features in a 60:10:30 ratio, using the feed-forward ann model. It was found that the ann model exhibited high precision in predicting soil moisture. The model achieved a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.71 and correlation coefficient (R) of 0.84. Furthermore, the incorporation of Random Forest (RF) algorithms for soil moisture prediction resulted in an improved R2 of 0.89. The unique combination of active microwave, meteorological data and multispectral data provides an opportunity to exploit the complementary nature of the datasets. Through preprocessing, fusion, and ann modeling, this research contributes to advancing soil moisture estimation techniques and providing valuable insights for water resource management and agricultural planning in the study area.
