Social practices of nurse care coordination using sensor technologies e Challenges with an alert system adoption in assisted living communities for older adults

Objectives:From the view of everyday practices and the socio-technical coordination lens,this study aimed to analyz the gap between creators’intention and the users’implementation(mainly nursing staff and social workers)of an alert system in assisted living ***:Qualitative methods were employed by way of five user interviews and focus groups with six system *** instruments were applied for data collection to analyze the different clinical workflows versus the expectations of the system development ***:Results indicate that the clinical workflow changed over time,which led to a mismatch of nurse care coordination,social practices,and technology *** results show different mental models of the socio-technical *** the coordination theory,the following recommendations could be developed to overcome the ***,it is recommended that nursing staff set goals ***,a communication rhythmwith the nursing staff and developer teams should be established,with guided questions to facilitate the conversation,to shed light on the different workflows and the difference in social practices when using sensor technologies or alert ***,a checklist for new employees should be created so they know how and on which devices to use the alert ***,the user experience with the alert system should be improved(e.g.,an improved user interface).Conclusions:This work indicates recommendations to close the mental model gap to overcome the mismatch between optimal use of the alert system and how the nursing staff is actually using it.

nvestigating the role of exiting vehicles and turn indicator usage in gap acceptance at single-lane roundabouts

Roundabouts are becoming a preferred form of intersection control type due to their safety and capacity benefits. Yield control at roundabout entries inherently reduces fuel consumption and emissions when compared to other conventional intersection types. However, these benefits can be limited by poor driver behavior and judgment when entering the roundabout. This research addresses the nature of gap distributions and use of turn indicators by exiting vehicles at three single-lane roundabouts in Vermont, New York, and Alaska. Presented here is a comparison of vehicle headways measured at two different locations in each roundabout. Rejected headways are analyzed in the context of priority abstaining events when entering drivers yield to vehicles exiting on the same leg of the roundabout suggesting that ＂true＂ critical gaps are being overestimated. Results indicate that exiting vehicles, particularly those that do not use their turn indicators when departing from the major-stream of traffic have an influence on the entry decision of drivers on the same approach. This behavior is of particular concern for intersection efficiency （i.e., delay） and sustainability （i.e., excess fuel consumption and emissions）. Results prompt the consideration of more consistent guidance on and enforcement of turn indicator use during roundabout negotiations.

Spectral square moments of a resonance sum for Maass forms

Let f be a Maass cusp form for Г0（N） with Fourier coefficients 1 k2. λf（n） and Laplace eigenvalue 1/4 ＋k2 For real α≠0 and β 〉 0, consider the sum Sx（f; α,β） = ∑n λf（n）e（αnβ）φ（n/X）, where φ is a smooth function of compact support. We prove bounds for the second spectral moment of Sx （f;α, β）, with the eigenvalue tending towards infinity. When the eigenvalue is sufficiently large, we obtain an average bound for this sum in terms of X. This implies that if f has its eigenvalue beyond X1/2＋ε, the standard resonance main term for Sx（f; ±2√q 1/2）, q ∈Z＋, cannot appear in general. The method is adopted from proofs of subconvexity bounds for Rankin-Selberg L-functions for GL（2） × GL（2）. It contains in particular a proof of an asymptotic expansion of a well-known oscillatory integral with an enlarged range of Kε≤ L≤ K1-ε. The same bounds can be proved in a similar way for holomorphie cusp forms.

Grain boundary effects in high-temperature liquid-metal dealloying: a multi-phase field study

A multi-phase field model is employed to study the microstructural evolution of an alloy undergoing liquid dealloying,specifically considering the role of grain boundaries.A semi-implicit time-stepping algorithm using spectral methods is implemented,which enables simulating large 2D and 3D domains over long time scales while still maintaining a realistic interfacial *** reveal a mechanism of coupled grain–boundary migration to maintain equilibrium contact angles with the topologically complex solid–liquid interface,which locally accelerates diffusion-coupled growth of a liquid channel into the *** mechanism asymmetrically disrupts the ligament connectivity of the dealloyed structure in qualitative agreement with published experimental *** grain boundary migration-assisted corrosion channels form even for precursors with small amounts of the dissolving alloy species,below the parting *** activation of this grain boundary dealloying mechanism depends strongly on grain boundary mobility.

Evaluation on the Two Filling Functions for the Recovery of Forest Information in Mountainous Shadows on Landsat ETM + Image

In general,topographic shadow may reduce performance of forest mapping over mountainous regions in remotely sensed *** this paper,information in shadow was synthesized by using two filling techniques,namely,roifill and imfill,in order to improve the accuracy of forest mapping over mountainous *** two methods were applied to Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper (ETM +) multispectral image from Dong Yang County,Zhejiang Province,*** performance of these methods was compared with two conventional techniques,including cosine correction and multisource *** results showed that by applying filling approaches,average overall accuracy of classification was improved by 14 ***,through conventional methods this value increased only by 9 *** results also revealed that estimated forest area on the basis of shadow-corrected images by 'roifill' technique was much closer to the survey data compared to traditional *** from this finding,our finding indicated that topographic shadow was an accentuated problem in medium resolution images such as Landsat ETM+ over mountainous regions.

LEUNIG_HOMOLOG and LEUNIG Regulate Seed Mucilage Extrusion in Arabidopsis

LEUNIG （LUG） and LEUNIG_HOMOLOG （LUH） encode two closely related Arabidopsis proteins, belonging to the Gro/TLE family of transcriptional co-repressors. These two genes were previously shown to exhibit partially overlapping functions in embryo and flower development. In this report, the role of both LUH and LUG on seed mucilage extrusion was examined. Seed mucilage extrusion occurs after the seeds are imbibed, serving as functional aid in seed hydration, germination, and dispersal. While luh-1 mutants exhibited strong defects in seed mucilage extrusion, lug-3 mutants exhibited a minor phenotype in mucilage extrusion. Further characterization indicates that luh-1 does not exhibit any obvious defect in seed epidermal cell differentiation, mucilage synthesis, or mucilage deposition, suggesting a specific role of LUH in mucilage extrusion. This seed mucilage phenotype of luh-1 is identical to that of mucilage modified 2 （mum2） mutants. MUM2 encodes a β-galactosidase required for the modification of the mucilage. Quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction of RNA extracted from siliques detected a slight decrease of MUM2 mRNA in the luh-1 mutant compared to the wild type. Together, LUH and possibly LUG may specifically regulate mucilage extrusion by promoting the expression of genes required for mucilage maturation.

Environmental cues determine the fate of astrocytes after spinal cord injury

Reactive astrogliosis occurs after central nervous system（CNS） injuries whereby resident astrocytes form rapid responses along a graded continuum. Following CNS lesions, na？ve astrocytes are converted into reactive astrocytes and eventually into scar-forming astrocytes that block axon regeneration and neural repair. It has been known for decades that scarring development and its related extracellular matrix molecules interfere with regeneration of injured axons after CNS injury, but the cellular and molecular mechanisms for controlling astrocytic scar formation and maintenance are not well known. Recent use of various genetic tools has made tremendous progress in better understanding genesis of reactive astrogliosis. Especially, the latest experiments demonstrate environment-dependent plasticity of reactive astrogliosis because reactive astrocytes isolated from injured spinal cord form scarring astrocytes when transplanted into injured spinal cord, but revert in retrograde to naive astrocytes when transplanted into naive spinal cord. The interactions between upregulated type I collagen and its receptor integrin β1 and the N-cadherin-mediated cell adhesion appear to play major roles for local astrogliosis around the lesion. This review centers on the environment-dependent plasticity of reactive astrogliosis after spinal cord injury and its potential as a therapeutic target.

Validating neural networks for spectroscopic classification on a universal synthetic dataset

To aid the development of machine learning models for automated spectroscopic data classification,we created a universal synthetic dataset for the validation of their *** dataset mimics the characteristic appearance of experimental measurements from techniques such as X-ray diffraction,nuclear magnetic resonance,and Raman spectroscopy among *** applied eight neural network architectures to classify artificial spectra,evaluating their ability to handle common experimental *** all models achieved over 98%accuracy on the synthetic dataset,misclassifications occurred when spectra had overlapping peaks or *** found that non-linear activation functions,specifically ReLU in the fully-connected layers,were crucial for distinguishing between these classes,while adding more sophisticated components,such as residual blocks or normalization layers,provided no performance *** on these findings,we summarize key design principles for neural networks in spectroscopic data classification and publicly share all scripts used in this study.
