Is There an Association b.tw.en b.cterial Vaginosis Infection and HIV-1 Infection Acquisition among w.men Aged 18 - 35 Years in Sow.to?

b.ckground: Studies suggest that there is association b.tw.en b.cterial Vaginosis and Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection b.t its temporal effect has not b.en sufficiently investigated. Methods: It is a secondary data analysis follow.ng a cohort study. It w.s carried out to describ. b.cterial Vaginosis infection association to Human Immunodeficiency Virus acquisition. The primary cohort study registered 750 study participants. A gram stain slide prepared from a vaginal sw.b.w.s used to measure b.cterial Vaginosis as the primary exposure. A score of 7 or ab.ve w.s considered positive for b.cterial Vaginosis. The determination of the dependent variab.e Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection w.s achieved through dual rapid tests w.ich w.re confirmed b. using a third generation ELISA. Incident Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection rate w.s calculated. To test significance, Kaplan Meier survival time analysis and log rank test w.re carried out. The association of b.cterial Vaginosis w.th Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection w.s investigated using Cox regression. Results: The b.seline prevalence of b.cterial Vaginosis w.s 52%, 95% CI;45 - 59. There w.re 21 Human Immunodeficiency Virus seroconversions in total of w.ich 7 had no b.cterial Vaginosis results and w.re left out in the analysis. The analysis only involved 14 seroconversions and these w.re follow.d for a mean time of 0.40 of a year and total time at risk of 286 person years. This show. incident rate of Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection of 4.9 per 100 person years of follow.up, 95 % CI: 2.9 - 8.27. Kaplan Meier curves revealed a higher risk of incident infection among w.men w.o w.re b.cterial Vaginosis positive than the w.men w.o w.re b.cterial Vaginosis negative. A log rank test show.d that the prob.b.lity of incident infection differed among the w.men depending on b.cterial Vaginosis status, X2 value 3.8, p value 0.05. Adjusting for the other variab.es, incident Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection

Illness Narrative: Perceptions and Lived Experiences of Kidney Recipient Clients in Shanghai, China

Terminal kidney disease is a life threatening condition and cause for loss of hope to affected individuals. It affects the individuals physically as w.ll as mentally. The advancement in medical know.edge and technology in transplant surgery has steadily increased the numb.r of kidney recipients. This offers hope for the new.lease of life and a w.de range of perceptions and experiences w.th self, society and the new.organ. There is minimal research on perceptions and lived experiences of kidney transplant recipients. This study explored the perceptions and lived experiences of individuals w.th a kidney prob.em living w.th a kidney transplant in Shanghai, China. Five in-depth interview. w.re conducted w.th five clients. The participant’s age ranged from 25 to 45 years. There w.re three females and tw. males. Content analysis using NVivo (11.0) softw.re w.s applied in data analysis. The findings revealed improved quality of life among kidney recipients;how.ver the clients had low.know.edge levels on the condition as w.ll as self care practices in the post transplant period. This caused a lot of psychosocial stress in the clients. The post kidney transplant management strategies should include effective education programs to increase aw.reness on the condition and self care practices so as to reduce factors associated w.th psychosocial stress in order to improve the quality of life for the clients in the post kidney transplantation period.

Reduced Cataplexy Symptoms w.ile on Sub.xone: A Case Report

b.ckground: Narcolepsy type 1 is a sleep disorder characterized b. excessive sleepiness along w.th cataplexy and/or hypocretin deficiency. w. present a case of narcolepsy type 1 in w.ich the cataplexy symptoms w.re reduced w.ile on sub.xone. Aim: This case report aims to note the reduction of cataplexy symptoms w.th sub.xone. Case Presentation: A 39-year-old female patient w.th narcolepsy type 1 w.s referred to our pain clinic for management w.th sub.xone. The patient had tried various other medications for the management of narcolepsy. w.th opioid management, the patient reported reduced cataplexy symptoms. Conclusion: The case illustrates the scientific thought that opioids could increase hypocretin and reduce symptoms in narcolepsy type 1.
